    11' wide lanes, putting the concrete barrier between the bike lane and the road, replacing one of the car lanes with bus lanes in either direction, a 25mph speed limit enforced by speed cameras, and a physical divider between the different sides of the road should have been part of the original design. this is just another car-centric bridge that has predictably become a hotspot for dangerous, attention-grabbing stunts.

    • @pulaski1
      @pulaski1 Před 2 lety

      Too many lane barriers prevents any flexibility when for example there is an accident. You'd only need one car sidways and traffic in one direction would come to a halt for 30+ minutes. I understand what you're trying to acheive, but modifications just _can't_ risk gridlocking traffic.

    • @empirestate8791
      @empirestate8791 Před 2 lety

      @@pulaski1 One solution is to use bollards instead of a concrete barrier separating the northbound and southbound sides. That way it prevents people from crossing over at high speeds, but at any time the police can lower those bollards so drivers can cross over in the event one of the sides is blocked. Also, plenty of other countries function with 1-2 lanes without shoulders quite well. Accidents won't be catastrophic and block the entire road with debris if the speed limit is reduced (to maybe 25mph, with speed cameras & traffic calming to ensure compliance). Also it's worth noting that with only 1 lane, the only type of crash that can probably happen is a rear-end crash, and it's unlikely to completely disable the vehicles, and the bus lane can always be used for traffic in the event of a crash.

    • @empirestate8791
      @empirestate8791 Před 2 lety

      @@d_all_in The bridge I described will carry far more people than today because of the bus lane and better bike lanes. Also there's no reason the speed limit on such a bridge should be more than 25mph, and there should be barriers between the eastbound & westbound sides, as well as the bike lane and car lanes, so vehicles don't go where they don't belong.

What designer/engineer of a $600,000,000 doesn't notice that simple design flaw? Also, put a guiderail down the center of the bridge roadway. Donut problem mostly eliminated. You HAVE to design for the lowest common denominator driver these days, it's sad but true. Another thing: how are there no cameras on this bridge to document license plates? Even in rural Pennsylvania, we have toll-by-plate systems on ALL of our toll roads. You're telling me the great city of LA couldn't implement something similar?
