      @@AliceFlynn Quirky, goofy, super outgoing, huge bookworm. Dorian wasn't non-bonary yet so they'd wear big bows in her bows in her hair and liked to wear skirts with knee high socks. Loved reading philosophy and economics. Was pretty much a straight A student. Was outgoing but pretty straight edge (no drugs, alcohol) rarely went to parties but would go to every school event that was basically a talent show and sing with her i think was a ukulele. Theres a lot more I can say but yeah. Cool person.

    As an agender person, I look up to these two, especially Dorian. I'm an older gen LGBT (I'm 40) and I just came out as Agender a couple years ago. These younger LGBTQIA+ peeps being comfortably themselves makes me feel more confident.
    I oddly relate to what Brendan said about dating gay men. I only dated straight men, and it felt weird because they'd see me as a girlfriend and I'm not a girl. I'm not a guy. I'm just me. I'm amasculine (agender + Masculine) and I mostly use neutral words but I'm fine with being perceived as a guy too. My pronouns are they/per/e/it and I didn't feel happy about my sexuality until I started dating bisexual and pansexual people. I'm pansexual myself, but also demisexual and I'm polyamorous.
    I've lost friends and family just for being openly happy and openly myself.
    I'm grateful to those in my life who support me.

    I'm not gender fluid but a lot of the discussion in this did feel very real.
    I definitely identify as a straight white man, but I have worn feminine clothing in the past and enjoyed it and not felt like there was anything wrong with it. Obviously cannot 100% relate to the experiences of these people, but share a bit of the same feeling that there's nothing wrong with expressing that it's okay to be yourself.
    It's difficult to express without feeling like just because I like wearing non masculine clothes sometimes that I have the same experiences as these people who actually have to live as themselves 24/7 and don't have an explicit gender. I guess the simplest way to express it as just some solidarity with being someone who doesn't feel like anyone should be pushed into a corner.
    Maybe a little of it comes from being into rock/metal/goth music and how open that community is to accepting everyone expressing and experimenting with fashion and sexuality/gender without saying "Oh hey you are this or that."

    • @Arthera0
      @Arthera0 Před 9 měsíci

      The discussion is real and we solved it a while ago. We decided that the box a man and a woman should behave in was dumb and we removed it. Doing more feminine things doesnt make you less of a man. just a man that tends towards the feminine side. This whole gender thing is building boxes again where people should fall into. its just as reductive as the male/female box before.

    • @ViDeTool
      @ViDeTool Před 9 měsíci +77

It's beautiful to see and I hope more people can open up to themselves and truly feel secure in their own bodies/identity doesn't make you queer or trans to feel secure in who you are weather it's straight, gay, cis, trans, ect

    • @Soundwave._
      @Soundwave._ Před 9 měsíci +28

      Really interesting perspective and definitely agree on the front of gender being more complex and it being perfectly fine to be binary/cis but still present in different ways.
      Just as a caveat plenty of non-binary and/or genderfluid people do have explicit genders, sometimes more than one explicit gender.

    • @drunkenprayer8390
      @drunkenprayer8390 Před 9 měsíci +9

      @@starchaser1437 it's nice to hear that but also sad in a way that something as little as that makes you feel validated when you really shouldn't need anyone to make you feel that way because your identity is valid and you deserve love and respect and to be comfortable in your own body, regardless of what anyone else thinks or feels.

    is this how I find out I’m gender fluid?! lmao I’ve always felt too “feminine” to be a man and too “masculine” to be a woman and I had always gone back and forth if I was trans, non binary, or if it was simply bc I’m bisexual but this has opened my eyes…. I’ve always been in search of a label that kinda helps guide me to getting to know myself even better and I think this might be what suits me best. Sometimes I wake up feeling super “girly” and wanting to wear dresses and stuff, but half the time I feel very “manly” and carry myself in a more masculine way and dress in a more masculine type outfit… so thank you to anthony for this very insightful video!

    Fluidflux person here, just figured that out back in 2022, definitely agree with the constantly discovering thing lol. My personal experience is that my gender sorta feels like it operates on two different axises(axes?) with one being the masc/femme binary and the other being the like, presence or lack of gender. Where the center point is they/them, the right side slides she/her, the left slides he/him, and going up gets you closer to a mixed set of pronouns with the apex being fine with anything and the going down gets you, in my case, generally more eldritch feelings. And my gender is like the old bouncing DVD logo just going around the plane formed by those two sliders.
    Like, I like to associate my genders with a little short sentence blurb so as an example of that eldritch feeling is my current one of: She/It, The avatar of an ancient forest's mycelium network taking the form of a fae witch.
    And I know not a lot of people are comfortable with it/its pronouns so I don't really mind if people don't use them for me, it's mostly just my way of saying I *do not* vibe with having gender right now, I am a creature, I am feral, the binary is less important compared to the eldritch horror skittering around your house.

It's amazing to hear both of their perspectives of gender identity and expression and it's even more amazing to see pretty much the entire comment section being absolutely lovely about a subject that tends to attract a lot of ignorant people.

    As a genderfluid person, I'm so happy to see people like me be recognized. I'm still in the process of becoming my full, true, self. I'm afab and would like to use any/all pronouns, but my parents are stuck on the idea that I am a woman. I used to hate being female presenting, but now that I've found people like this just doing it for myself is enough to keep me alive.

    okay. so i have no problem with gender fluid people, trans people, any people really. (if my youtube intro is anything to go by)
    but i have questions.
    So when Brendan said that in their identity there's a masculine and a feminine. What does that even mean? Because in my eyes wouldn't that be everyone? like I'm male, but i wouldn't say i'm the most masculine person in the sense that masculine means strong. why is strength seen as masculine? my mother was the strongest person i knew, but she wasn't masculine. why is femininity seen as weak? my stepfather was the weakest person i knew, but he wasn't feminine. So what does feminine and masculine mean and why?
    Why is wearing dresses and having long hair seen as feminine? I've seen plenty of men with long hair, myself included atm, and there are cultures where men wear what could be considered dresses, like in arab cultures with robes.
    And what's masculine? Pants used to be seen as something only men wore, but now women wear pants, and they are still themselves.
    I think what my point is, is that none of us are really masculine or feminine. having long hair doesn't make you feminine, showing your feelings doesn't make you feminine, having short hair doesn't make you masculine. neither does having big muscles. The fact that i'm even asking these questions and making these points just shows that gender is a concept we created, that is completely different to sex (which is where i think those against gender fluidity don't know the difference)
    Masculinity and femininity are meaningless, and i think that one day most of the world will realise this. and we won't be so hung up on only letting certain people wear certain kinds of cloth on their body, or only let certain people only have their hair a certain way. we will all be able to wear what we want, and look how we want, and be who we are without having to label ourselves as anything other than just 'people'. Femininity doesn't make you a woman, and masculinity doesn't make you a man, they are just labels.
    no more femininity, or masculinity. the only nity we will see ourselves as will be humanity. and just live in a world where we can all be ourselves without having to label each other.

    This is awesome!
    I’d never really thought about my gender until a few months ago, when I saw your interview with non-binary people, and I remembered times when, as a boy who mostly socialized with girls at the time, I felt like I couldn’t join them for their more “girly” activities because I wasn’t supposed to.
    Fast-forward to me being 20, and watching that interview. I had recently come out as pansexual (which I now know isn’t quite right, but I don’t care to label it), and decided to start experimenting with how I saw myself.
    I realized pretty quickly that I’m most comfortable presenting how I already did, but allowing myself to “give off more of a gay vibe” when I feel like it has just made my days a little bit nicer.
    I guess I’m a cis man, and I’m definitely not trans in any way, but in my own mind, I don’t like to think of myself in terms of gender. I’m Aiden. That’s it.
    It’s really quite freeing to know that you don’t have to stick with your assigned gender, even if you end up sticking with it anyways.
    To all my fellow cis people; go forth and break whatever gender norms you feel like! If you don’t, that’s okay too. In terms of gender, just do what feels right, and don’t give an eff about how you label it.

    Thanks Anthony and guests. I’m a Trans guy and I’ve watched this to educate myself as I haven’t naturally understood what non-binary is because I don’t feel that way. So I’m practicing what I preach when I expect others to educate themselves about what it’s like to be Trans. It’s been really eye opening to see the concept of non-binary fleshed out by real people - it’s true that representation really matters.

      what barrier? You're one of the most celebrated groups compared to your community at any other point in history and you're in movies, tv, commercial, pop culture, encouraging children to partake. Your "oppression" isn't anywhere in America, just in your head for believing in fantasies of pregnant men and thousands of genders - trying desperately to convince yourselves it all makes sense and failing to prove most of your knowledge about what is true.

    brendan in her growing up segment felt so validating for me. it's never like an on switch, just some days I felt OK looking in the mirror and other days i felt off. it wasn't literally the next day either, it was over time. like in January I couldn't stand to see myself in the mirror and was convinced i was trans because of the dysphoria, and in July I was feeling myself and my body and everything felt right. I can't bring myself to label my gender because how I feel about it changes at any given moment, even with the genderfluid label, but i related so much. (I flip between nonbinary, genderfluid, trans, and just settled on queer or nonlabeling).

    • @0quin0
      @0quin0 Před 9 měsíci +3

      This !! This is why it took me a long time to realize I was genderfluid. Because when I listened to trans experiences, it was always like they had a lightbulb moment or very obvious signs from when they were a kid where as mine were more subtle i.e. dressing in various styles in highschool, that same "off feeling", and more little things throughout my life. Definitely overtime kinda thing.

    • @panadocoughsyrup
      @panadocoughsyrup Před 7 měsíci +1

      I’ve considered myself a trans man for a long time, I think bevause I’ve always felt pressure to be a trans man in the only way I thought was possible. I’m realising that there’s part of femininity in my identity that I can’t ignore, and I’m thinking of perhaps exploring genderfluid as a label. I still have this inherent connection to being a lesbian, and it’s hard to reconcile that with this other side of me that is very definitively “male” (whatever that means.
      I guess it’s a bit intimidating, because the experience of being visibly queer is not something I want to go back to. But at the same time it might make me happier. So basically what I’m trying to say is that I’m in the same boat as you, I understand how you feel ❤
