I stumbled upon this doctor’s page and I couldn’t wait to share this content with my wife. She is suffering from mostly all these menopausal symptoms described in the videos and it’s so hard for me to watch as I know she’s suffering.
Her cholesterol is extremely high and vitamin D levels are near zero with no diet changes whatsoever. Hot flashes, pain during sex, loss of sexual interest, weight gain, headaches…you name it, she’s got it.
We now have a place to start and I’m bound a determined to stand by her and see to it she gets the help she needs.
Thank you to all the women on this thread as I have learned so much reading all your comments. Hang in there ladies and I am glad you all have somewhere to go for help and support!

I'm glad for your wife; she's got you. (My husband's dead)
I live in Spain, and have asked our family doctor for estrogen. He's said no every time. It wouldn't help me to change doctor; the policy is the same: no estrogen to menopausal women. I now have a sort of a beard and moustage, have gained weight (a lot!) and feel depressed. I don't feel like myself. At all.
Maybe the worst is the facial hair and no sleep at night.
I still wish that I'd been given the estrogen...

I'm getting more and more furious. I had a female gyn who referred me to a female gyn oncologist for a possible ovarian tumor. It turned out to be a giant cyst, but they removed it anyway. I didn't want a hysterectomy unless the "tumor" was cancerous. After they learned the ovary had a cyst and not cancer, they asked my husband if they could do a hysterectomy while I was incapacitated under general anesthesia. Thankfully, he is my strongest advocate and refused this deceptive, malpractice-worthy act. Then, they didn't offer me any form of HRT after removing half of my hormone-producing organs. At 60, I have struggled with things that I didn't even know were low-estrogen symptoms since I was 39!!! I'm most worried about my bones and muscles. I must let this anger go because it isn't helping me. But I'm on fire to teach my daughters (39, 41) and stepdaughters (45, 45) how to advocate for their female health.

Probiotics daily, no. Tho' I will have Kefir, once monthly. My energy at 54 is boundless now. People remark that I look younger than my age now. I eat a pretty healthy variety of foods at meal time but within a 1 hr period. I vary up bi weekly on my eating window so my body does not adapt to my intermittent fasting routine. Most of all, I watch my ingestion of sugar or lack now thereof. I take 2500units Vit D with K2 daily with my meal. I exercise 5 out 7 days a week. 2 kettlebell days, 3 cardio days such as treadmill incline (at 15) walking forward and backward (slow pace but what a burn in the glutes and quads, try it), followed by stretching. I will be on a Vit D regimen forever, and that's OK. Genetics loads the gun, but Lifestyle pulls the trigger.

In Feb it'll be 6 months since my last labs...can't wait to see what my labs show for vit D...I've been taking 5,000 IU of D3 a day plus K2 mk-7 since...hoping to get up in the high 70's to mid 80's. The key to my success was taking D3 plus K2, magnesium and calcium. No thanks to any doctor either.

At 43, I went to my female GP and asked if I could be perimenopausal. A few missed periods to the point where I did a pregnancy test. Told I was too young for menopause, I'm fine. Two years later, I physically feel different. Very mild heat differences during the day...could I be perimenopausal? Again, nope too young. At 47y 10m I had my last period. No hormones, no help with hot flashes and sleep deprivation. I turned to the internet and bought Black Cohosh which gave me back some sleep and night time comfort. Now at 53 my cholesterol has shot up almost 50pts and I have gained 40lbs I could not afford to gain. I lift weights and mostly watchbwhat I eat. The only advice I get is to do better and she wants me on a statin. I am so angry seeing the correlation you are drawing. I feel so abandoned by the medical field...so not heard.

For all those reasons, I couldnt figure out why my cholesterol was high, I am a (no-longer teaching) ballet teacher, yes, overweight, plus, with a diabetes 2 husband, we eat very healthy at home. No dr told me the connection between estrogen and cholesterol, only through my almost obsessive reading I came to find out. I am now with a patch since july, although the obgyn doesn't think it will affect my cholesterol levels. I have been on a mission to lose weight (lost 17lb since july) and do what I can making tweeks to my diet to reduce my cholesterol levels, there has been an improvement but not quite enough. I refuse statins, at least until I've exhausted my diet-exercise options.

    • @cm1906
      @cm1906 Před 7 měsíci +19

In my case the estrogen patch did change my cholesterol for the better! From my experience, what’s important is that you’re on a high enough dosage. Due to all the fear around HRT, also among not well educated healthcare providers, a lot of women get under treated with estradiol. And then there’s also different absorption rates (from patches) among women. What’s important to know is that the estradiol dose that helps with your menopause symptoms is not necessarily enough to help prevent the chronic diseases related to estrogen loss.

As a clinical nutritionist for over 40 years it’s not just estrogen deprivation that causes the elevation on cholesterol, the same thing happens in men with low testosterone. So why does this happen, has nothing to do with gut absorption. When these two hormones become deficient the liver produces more cholesterol in an effort to provide the building blocks for those two hormones. All hormones are made predominantly from cholesterol. This has been documented at my clinic in houston as once we gave them the correct hormone replacement cholesterol levels dropped back to the normal range.

It’s pretty amazing seeing this lovely doctor acknowledge what postmenopausal women have known all along we don’t feel well , we don’t feel right. I have estrogen supplement now and my vitamin D was horribly low. Fun fact, who discovered this finally, an older doctor, who has been in practice for years at our local, urgent care. I take a 50,000 unit vitamin D pill once a week and nightly estrogen supplement. I can’t describe how much better I feel. Do I feel like I’m 25 again and like scaling Mount Everest, no, but the improved brain fog and issues with memory and energy and general improved mental health feels like I climbed Mount Everest for the win. I believe I also had long Covid that intensified symptoms of brain fog, and the vitamin D worked wonders in my opinion.
A younger gynecologist once simply shrugged her shoulders at me when I was frustrated with inexplicable weight gain after menopause. Her statement was ; eat less, move more. I wanted to smack her quite honestly and ask her if she was under the impression that I sat home all day long and moved as little as humanly possible and just ate pie for each meal. Even thinking about it now, years later…the shrug, and the dismissiveness is infuriating.
First, I was offended and embarrassed, and cried on the way home feeling accused at the assumption that I don’t exercise and apparently am a pig . Second, I never went to see her again and third a little part of me would like to say to her , you know, when you’re 55 I want you to let me know how it feels when somebody shrugs their shoulders at you and suggests that this is self imposed, and simply cured.
I imagine in 20 years her empathy may grow exponentially. At least I would hope so, for the sake of her ‘lazy, fat’ patients.🤬
Thank you Doctor, for the thoughtfulness and Public service you are providing we ladies over 50 appreciate it. We don’t see ourselves as 50. It is a failure of the medical profession. If we can find a medical professional who is in tune with women's health and needs, we score!

Its an interesting question. I contracted a serious auto immune disease at age 7. I was so sick. It wasnt like years of meandering symptoms. It hit really hard and i got so weak. My doctors didn’t even want me on birth control pills! This ws 12 years ago i was in my early 40s. Then 5 years later when i was in full menopause. They wouldn’t talk about HRT. It was just understood i could not have hormones. Thats when i started needing Thyroid and Ive been chronically low on vitamin D ever since. I gained 20 lbs after menopause despite no changes to my diet whatsoever. And then my very active sex drive dwindled to almost nothing. I do miss being younger. At 55 thing feel a lot different than they did even 10 years ago.

Perhaps the cholesterol goes higher because it's supposed to . Women live longer than men ... always have . Even before HRT was available. When your ovaries stop the estrogen your adrenals act as shock absorbers in the menopausal process . They make a bit of sex hormone . What helps them do that ? LDL cholesterol . I had horrible hot flashes and brain fog when my GP freaked about my cholesterol and put me on a low fat diet . I'm 15 pounds overweight . When I decided to ignore him and added grass fed butter to my diet all the symptoms went away . Also , no cancer from HRT .

I’ve always had low cholesterol no matter what size, (thank you good genetics) I’m currently overweight waiting for my 4th back surgery in 10 years and will be 40yo in April. I was just started on huge supplemental amounts of vitamin D and calcium because I got these lines around my teeth and my dentist told me to have my doctor run the labs. What’s disturbing to me is I’ve been on autoimmune biological chemotherapy infusion treatment for my JRA since August 2016, (2 years and I’ll be in remission my butt 7.5 years later, along with acquiring 4 more autoimmune diseases since then, MADS,) and not my specialist for the different autoimmune diseases/conditions nor primary have thought to run labs for basics outside the special things. I have now been having my PCP do it every 3 months until they get normal or close to and will back off but it’s disturbing I’ve complained about how my GERD for 3 years has been the worst it’s been in 14 years and between April to November last year had 15 cavities filled. More than in my entire life at the same dental office since I was 3yo. Just had a cleaning 18 months prior to April when I had a piece at my gums of a molar fall out. Tiny but I was horrified because not only have my teeth been straight thanks to braces but taking care so much everyday to be preventative, using water picks to floss, having with me when out the teeth wipes, picks and disposable toothbrush with paste to use if not going to be home for a while and eating. I’m scared to think how my teeth would be if I didn’t do this and hadn’t been complaining. Oh and since May 2 different Gastroenterologist haven’t cared one bit about me showing and complaining about my teeth, gums or mouth problems nor the letter my dentist wrote that he can’t stop he can only paint the damage they have to stop the gerd. I had to file a complaint with the state and waiting for another Gastro but only gave limited options which my rheumatologist told me several to not go to they don’t work or work well with other departments doctors when cross over diagnosis are involved.
Same with my infusion/chemo treatments they stopped me having a period entirely since 2016 and my non of my care doctors have seen that as a problem. The years I’ve wanted to have just 1 kid and then resort to freezing my eggs because this has dragged on now for years is putting me in a place where I feel like they aren’t trying to get me functional let alone be a mother. I did get Addisons disease in 2018 as they discovered by accident during a flare up er trip that I had to be there for 2 days and tested me for a lot of things which they didn’t say they suspected cortisol issues. The first things they always go for when something new comes up or flare ups arise is, oh your fat is the problem, and let’s check for diabetes, cholesterol and thyroid those are going to show us the problem. I laugh so hard every time any doctors do this and it’s a couple times a year now and explain how being fat is because of needing back surgery, not able to exercise at all, in a wheelchair most of the time, and my inflammation 24/7, not because I gave something new or wrong that’s a challenge and you have to think or get specialist to help solve because it doesn’t fit your standard fat intake and resolve problem checklist. They never look at the prior doctor tests or results despite warning them and wasting my time when I feel horrible, sick and in pain. I’ve had others within the system I am in over years now comment to me if I didn’t fight, advocate for myself, do my research, demand testing, treatment and care I’d be dead. What’s scary is how true it has been and still is, sometimes I almost feel like they are on purpose and. I would love to get some other medical facility for treatment, but because of their screwed up medical records that they’ve committed fraud and I don’t know where to go or how to get it fixed without putting myself in danger I’m basically held medically hostage and continue to be terrorized on a weekly basis as I see some doctor every single week.

They ate less deserts as the smoothies filled them up and satisfied their sweet tooth with natural sweeteners in fruit. Their labs continued to improve along with their skin and hair and mucous membranes in their eyes all become more supple and hydrated. So were you vegetarian before? I haven't eaten meat since I was 14, and it's hard to tell if it's been a good or bad thing. I just can't imagine eating meat after all this time though.

I hope you can change the way women are treated pre - and during menopause. You are leading a good fight. Look how we are treated in the UK. Please post a video on your finding because we are so let down. I am 48 years old and have been told to come back when my periods stop.

I’m 44 now and just started symptoms of perimenopause this year full blown and got labs last week and my cholesterol levels are elevated although I’ve been this way before it might be because of this for the most part estrogen levels dropping. I’m on my 4th day on HRT lowest dose praying I feel better soon.
