Incredible how you put your car with it's nose on the ground just to install the thermosensor easier from above, laying on the front grille.
Thast spark plug wire knot-trick is handy!

Hi Joe- Those numbers seem a bit high to me. Normal idle speed should be somewhere between 600-800 rpm at idle (warm). I'm old school and always liked analog gauges. Like the old chrome SUN tachs we used to mount on our steering columns with a hose clamp back in the late 70's. I remember the tachs would typically have 4 wires White- Hooked to the lighting circuit, Red- Hooked to a 12V Positive source, Black was a ground and Green went to the Negative side of the coil... I also remember making poor man's kill switches with a toggle switch and a wire from the Negative side of the coil to a ground... The switch was hidden to deter thieves. We would come up with crazy places to switch the kill switch. One way was to use the cigarette lighter plug, push in the lighter and the car would run, pul it out a little and it would not. Another friend of mine had his rear defogger hooked up as a kill switch, turn it on and the car would run... LOL

Lol...the defogger is too funny. I struggle with these cheap Chinese gadgets, I love them and hate them equally. Anyway, I am done working on vehicles for now, I am looking forward to doing some tool restorations. Cheers

Reminds me of the late 80's/high school, every kid wanted a loud overpriced car stereo. Stolen radar detectors & car stereos was a big thing. Kids started epoxying razor blades to the back of their stereos before installing them. You'd come out to find a broken side window on your car, a partially disassembled stereo & blood on the floor underneath the dash. They'd use a flat screwdriver & pry on a rear side window causing it to break without making much noise. If you seen a kid at school with his hand stitched up, you knew who did it.

Sparks per revolution could be referring to how many signals spark thru the coil. If you have an 8 cylinder it would be eight sparks. 6 cylinder six sparks…. Perhaps you need a 8 cylinder tach.
