  • You may have heard recently about the rising cases of monkeypox. It can be serious for kids, pregnant or breastfeeding moms or if you have a weakened immune system.
It spreads through direct contact with someone with an infected rash, scab, bodily fluids or even through respiratory secretions during prolonged face-to-face contact. Along with common flu symptoms such as a sore throat, stuffy nose, cough and fever, the most telling signs are swollen lymph nodes and the accompanying blisters or pimples that can appear anywhere on your body.
There is a monkeypox vaccine, but its recommended mainly for people with exposure to those with monkeypox. ANYONE can be infected, even though currently, 98% of the infections have been found in men who have had sex with men. Talk to your doctor if you believe you have been exposed to monkeypox.
