Requiem of Silence, the OST that plays at the end, is one of the best OSTs ever. The director loved it so much that he synced the anime visuals to match the OST instead of the other way around. That soundtrack is 7 minutes of pure emotional despair.
This is easily one of the best episodes in the whole anime so far. Szn 3 is going to be insaaane. Also yes, Rem best girl
This episode is an experience that'll live with you. so good
You keep mentioning a battle tournament between the candidates so i think there's a couple lines you missed back in the royal meetings episodes. The whole misunderstanding about the meeting being presumed to be a drinking party to get to know each other and conduct the election fairly was a massive implication that they explicitly don't want this election to turn into a bloodbath. The state of the nation without it's nuclear deterrent Holy Dragon( Ram explains this to Subaru in arc 2 of anime) is very delicate and as such enemy nations are watching them very closely for signs of weakness. So they want the election to be conducted as peaceful as possible. No turmoil other nations could exploit.
Perhaps you're used to too many Shounen tropes but this election isn't a battle tournament where might makes right and the King is the most powerful person amongst them. It's a genuine, fully political, surprisingly democratic for it's medieval setting, election. This is why in arc 2 Emilia was constantly studying, to be educated on the nations foremost problems and how to address them.
Unfortunately cut content for this season ruined how the candidates each represent a major issue facing the nation and how each candidate seems to be specialized towards fixing it. Like for example Emilia's desire to make everyone equal is more than pretty words but an attempt to prevent a second demi-human civil war that devastated the country 40ish years before the start of the story. A war that was primarily caused by how Demi-humans are segregated and treated as lesser citizens. The anime actually super foreshadows this way back in episode 1 with that demi-human only bar that Subaru walked into, or the demi-human only bathroom.
The outcome of the demi-human war was not in their favor and there's still rampant inequality. The nation having learned literally nothing from the cause of the brutal war is well on it's way for round 2. Which is why Emilia's promise to the throne carries real consideration. Throwing a half-elf on the throne may appease the demi-humans and avert another war. But even with that potential advantage the hate for demi-humans runs deep in this nation, such that many may rather prefer the war over putting Emilia on the throne. This is why the Appa vendor says it's really impossible for Emilia to win.
Anyway, lots of political depth at play here. And it's not gonna be solved with a anime cliché tournament.

Also with so many people shitting on Subaru in this phase of the series many miss that Emilia also is somewhat of a hypocrite by not telling Subaru how people view her also Rem simps will hate me for this but she probably should be stricter with Subaru bc she’s just smiling and telling him she thinks he’s great while he’s out here burning every bridge he built so far ☠️

2:57 cut content they actually cut a lot about felises character but he was trying to brainwash Subaru with his healing magic at some point tho I’m not sure if it was this scene that’s supposed to show the scene or not
5:20 unfortunately our boy has more than a few screw lose aber all this looping even tho it’s not showing on the surface he’s starting to believe he’s of no use unless he’s there when something major happens so he can reset and take the information back into his past life

I wouldn't say it's her being a hypocrite. It's clear by how she reacted when telling him she's a half elf that something is wrong, and he is told of her connection to the witch of envy. He just never bothered to ask her about it or took the time to understand because he treated her like a doll.

But there is a clear right and wrong here, and Subaru is fully in the wrong for not respecting Emilia, disregarding her wishes, embarrassing her in the selection hall, not trying her to deal with it herself, insulting the knights, and fighting Julius (yes Julius issued the challenge, but Subaru put himself in that situation.(
Royal selection is main quest for emilia and side quest of Subaru.
But MAIN QUEST OF SUBARU not started yet.
ALSO UPTO S1 ep 18 is just the prologue of rezero and real Rezero starts from s1 ep 19

Otto is best boy. Not much cut content. Otto and Subaru click almost immediately, becoming fast friends. There is a conversation that was cut but it's mostly just banter.
Rem reflects on how she feels about everyone.
After being frozen to death, Subaru ends up in that shadowy place again. The feminine shadow appears again. He feels an intense amount of love towards the shadow that he can't explain.
She manages to touch him this time and says, "I love you."
