      He was sick when he did this and VERY ANGRY that they used the auto tune in him! You should react to the video of them doing this. He was musically trained as a Cantor. He has amazing range and my respect.... Think about today's society more technologically connected but never really talking to each other face to face.... They worship false God's more and more thru technology.... If that makes sense.. The original was Simon and Garfunkel in 1963, written by Paul Simon after a dream he had and it's more fitting today than it was then. Something to think about....

I loved the original version but honestly...I didn't delve too deeply into the meaning of the song or even know all of the words. The original has always (to me) sounded like a lullaby, a sad, beautiful lullaby. You are the first person I've seen that said something so profoundly true and that is David Draiman is a powerful singer as well as story teller! I’ve watched dozens of reactions to this song. So many of the reactors kept stopping at crucial points in the song (I know, I know, they are supposed to be reacting, but I appreciate the ones who play the song, and then react). So many songs lose their emotional impact when it’s chopped into many pieces. YOUR reaction told a beautiful story, just by the expressions on your face. Thanks for that!

    Every time I hear this, I'm stunned, too. The song was written in 1964 - over 50 years ago - and Simon & Garfunkel's performance perfectly reflected the feelings of the time. Now Disturbed has come along with a performance of the same music, but updated for today, and his performance also perfectly reflects the feelings of our time. An amazing song & two amazing groups, 50 years apart.

      @@rell.bombtv This was written during the short time when President Kennedy was killed, the attacks on Civil Rights demonstrators during the last gasps of legal segregation, the ramp up with the Vietnam War, Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech and his assassination, the Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, the rebirth of the Women's Rights Movement ... it was a time of hope and fear and the most unlikely people coming together to fix the world. Music was such an important part of the sixties, and Paul Simon was just 21 when he wrote this song. Part of his genius is that he could turn what he saw in the world into this music, even as young as he was.

    In my opinion
    "People talking without speaking" = means people nowadays like to talk nonsense instead of speaking something good and useful. Sometimes they like to talk without using their brain. Speaking is after you think and analysed. It is two same action but deeply has different meaning
    "People hearing without listening" = they hear the story, news etc just by the surface. They never bury the message in their head. Unlike listening, which we are more focus to take the important point from the story, news etc.
    These two lines from the song are my favorite. Really deep message from Simon towards people all over the world.

      Neon god they made is more likely an entertainer/singer. People talking without speaking could also be ignoring someone or give them the silent treatment when mad. Don’t have to say anything but not saying anything is saying something. People hearing without listening is listening to someone’s advice but not using the advice.

    One of the reasons David has so much flexibility and color in his voice comes down to both his rock experience with Disturbed and even more importantly his operatic training. You were very captivated! Great reaction! It's great how when you don't know what to expect you can be completely leveled by someone's talent! I'm a huge Disturbed fan and my first time I saw the video I actually wept. The song is a dark journey and Dave takes you with him through it! Simon and Garfunkel didn't portray this story nearly as intense. I Love that you were open and taken by it. Your face said it all. You looked amazed and scared at the same time. You have a Great personality! God Bless your 2019!

      Yes, the video is haunting. Btw, this is a cover of an old Simon and Garfunkel song from 1963. Their version was folksy unlike this..

    • @TheGoalie437
      @TheGoalie437 Před 5 lety +7

      The good thing about live is he hits the pitches perfectly, for live it is just stellar, compared to the album where they can fix every angle of it to make it seem perfect, where as this is just vocal depth showing what he can do live, that is why people like the live version, they can see him singing this song amazingly and feel it as he sings it, the album version is great don't get me wrong, but live I just feel it a lot more maybe that is just me but I can feel it deeply seeing what he can do and if he can hit the pitches higher or the same as the album, I just feel he does better live with any song he does because you get to see how well he hits his pitches without many added effects like they do with albums.

    • @GRIMRPR6942
      @GRIMRPR6942 Před 5 lety +6

      @@TheGoalie437 Actually, the pitches werent perfect, but pretty close because the sound crew had him use an auto-tune mic for the live performance. David Draiman made mention of it in a later radio interview because the host of the show made a comment about how he seemed to hear it at certain points in the performance. Theres also a vocal/singing coach here on YT that listened to both versions and mentioned the same thing, people who have a trained ear can hear the difference.

    David comes from an orthodox Jewish family and trained as a cantor in his early years. These days, he has the most amazing and powerful range. The great thing I heard about this track was that Paul Simon, who wrote the song for Simon & Garfunkel back in the '60's actually said he loves this version, and you can't get a better validation than that. The original video now has over 650 million views. That's around 9% of the world's population.

Watch the original Disturbed video it's a little more tight...I seem them at Ozzfest 2000 and was very impressed by their live performance... I knew who they were and like their music... Checkout slipknot goodbye or snuff both are very emotional.
