- This video shows the painting of my very first Death Guard Plague Marines and discusses why the Death Guard color scheme pop, even if we choose paler colors. Also we try to brush paint the Vallejo Mecha Colors and do I recommend them for brush painting? The video also semi answers the question on how I choose the colors for our drybrush underpainting.

I have been planning to get some death guard models for quite a while now. Watching your videos gave me a bit more of understanding on how to achieve the rusted and rotten look that they have although I'm still puzzled on how to achieve the proper highlighting done on the tentacles. Thanks for the tips!

Don, another great video. Not sure about about the base greenish of the death guard, but all the other stuff, spot on. I’ve gone back to finishing my sons death guard and it’s like I’ve forgot how to paint, it’s been over a year since I lasted painted and nothing seems right, the paints don’t mix right and the models seem brittle, I’ve had the bell drop off, one of The bloated diodes guns fall off, plus he spikes braking off. Can’t wait to finish these 3 models from 1year and start on another protect, but leave a year.

Thanks for another excellent video. I agree with your conclusions that Mecha colors are great for airbrushing and not so good for brush painting (my experience is only on mechas, though), with the exception of painting small details. However, I find the mecha fluo paints excellent even when brushed. Ciao!
Agree...I think it has some sort of varnish and this makes it less opaque for brush painting. Mecha colors are the easiest to airbrush though. ☺️🎨🎨🎨

Though the thing about DG, you can be messy as you want and it will work because DG are naturally messy. LOL

Can you explain why, even when not using contrast paints, some artists still underbrush the mini for highlights? Isn’t it just covered up? Is there something in the following technique that allows that underbrushing to show through slightly?

love the look of these minis. Do you add the red over the brown to give a combined effect or do you want bits of brown and red showing through? how much of this undercoat is visible on final model? Thank you for another great video!
The red brown undepaint shows through a lot of the green armor edges. The underpaint are the rust parts actually. ☺️🎨🎨🎨

Not a huge fan of the mecha series. Maybe it sells if you want a durable paint, like if you're doing a gunpla. It'll do more things than most other paints, but when you look at it for specifics I just think there's always a better alternative.
That said, Death Guard looks great and I am looking forward to seeing an in depth video on how you tackle TMM, I use metal paints in most things I do and I like finding new ways of making them stand out

Oh I forgot! Most likely burnt umber or vandyke brown, from Talens or Can Gogh. 😊
