- This song was written by Tony Hazzard, and originally recorded by Manfred Mann, as a rock song, in 1969. It has become a standard in Bluegrass music since The Country Gentlemen made this recording (from the album, "The Country Gentlemen Sound Off"), in 1970. Enjoy!

My late husband used to play this on the piano he and I and our 2 sons would sing 4 part harmony it's a beautiful memory
This is beautiful
I love the musicianship of the Country Gentlemen. Sounds like Sunday morning, with a big breakfast cooking, while my father works on a car, in the garage.
my uncle used to play this on his guitar and all of us would sing along with him ❤️
Like a fooooooooooox..... on the run!!! 😌
Lol
Learned this song in basic training in 1981. Crazy as it sounds we all sang it together just a bunch of kids learning to be men. I have sing it to my grandchildren now. Love it
I remember those days
I love all the old bluegrass, this is my favorite!!!
this, and salty dog...
Love the stairstep harmony.
4 part harmony, yes!
I just cant get enough of this song
I’m right there with you!💯👍❤
This will forever remind me of my dad. A hillbilly from Virginia with a heart of gold.
Northwest North Carolina here. I remember some of my dad's friends playing this and other bluegrass songs when I was a kid.
And he was probably a hard worker, too. My dad (RIP) and your dad sound like brothers.
Same here, except my dad is a retired Western Kentucky electric lineman and farmer.
REAL GOOD BLUEGRASS MUSIC
My buddies and I used to go to Georgetown on Friday and Saturday night to hear the Gentlemen and throw a few down. Great music and good times circa 1971.
At the Shamrock in Georgetown, early 1960's
I believe Charlie Waller had the golden feel with this special tune. The harmony was unsurpassed I believe.
I saw them many times live. Wow what a show👍
My wife's grandfather use to play with them years ago
Best version ever imo.
Very classic Version of this old tune. I play it occasionally on my old Guitar. The only hard part is trying to get the 4 harmonious voices with only one voice.
Lol just get the app where you can record multiple parts of your performance
💯
@@gabrielledion7539 This song was released in 1969 by Manfred Mann.
Thank-you for uploading this. This is my favorite Bluegrass song, and this is the definitive version of it. That's a pretty good modern bg album too, throughout, "Sound Off"
My favourite bluegrass song ever!
I used to listen to them at the Celar Door in Georgetown on Monday nights
BILL KAYS wow! My daughter is a Georgetown grad and huge bluegrass fan. She will be amazed to hear this
At the Shamrock in Georgetown early 1960's. Pictured on an album cover with them on the stage.
Love this group. Appreciate all they have done.
I listened to Tony Hazzard's live version, then Manfred Mann's version and then this version. What an amazing evolution of a classic.
Now listen to The Sweet version.
@@RonJohn63 Agree and young Ace does a good rendering also.
This song makes me so happy
brings me memories from my childhood
Some of my greatest memories was Saturday night bluegrass with my dad and brother. This was always one of the requests.
Perfect, just perfect!
This is one of my favorites
Now THAT'S how "Fox on the Run" should be performed! Looking for this song, I stumbled upon one by the same name by a group called "Sweet" and could stand only about 15 seconds of it.
Check out the Zac Brown Band version. Pretty good
@@luckyrascal Obviously! I was roped in by the title.
Ricky Skaggs did this song but damned if I can find it anywhere.
Awesome, that's one of my favourites.
My favorite go to bluegrass song
She walks through the corn leadin' down to the river
Her hair shone like gold in the hot mornin' sun
She took all the love that a poor boy could give her
And left me to die like a fox on the run
Like a fox, like a fox, like a fox on the run
Now everybody knows the reason for my fall
A woman tempted me down in paradise hall
This woman tempted me and she took me for a ride
Like a lonely fox, boys, I need a place to hide
Oh, we'll drink a glass of wine, boys, to purify our soul
We'll talk about the world and the friends we used to know
I see a string of girls who have put me on before
The game is nearly over and the hounds are at the door
Ok Boomer

Are you kidding? Awsome.
My dad is the one who got you all to play in Grottoes VA. many years ago.
Seriously, 340,00 people have watched this and less than 2,000 thumbs up? Seriously? That was excellent!
Light a candle for Reynard
Thats the good stuff! Thanks for sharing!
My father used to play this with so talented friends of his
Excellent song.
That's a damn good song
Poor boy like me can relate
Sounds better when making moonshine
I'm a bluegrass type of person and this my favorite song of all time

SUPER GOOD !
I agree With the gentleman below. this shit they are trying to pass off as country music today bothers me.
that´s because it´s just shitty pop music with a cowboy hat on
Fucken A
No more country music these days d
I play it all the time
Great tune. They also "tear it up:" with "Last Thing on My Mind".
Nobody does it better
So good
One leg all the way out from beneath my seat just slapping the ground while i drink my drink
🤣 I use the "one two three four" timing of this song to keep pace while bowling!
Tom Finley loves this music
You can sort of hear the old country roots of bluegrass here. Sounds almost like an Irish pub song.
It is a remake of a 60's English band "Manfred Man" song
Bluegrass takes talent to play
Manfred Mann could sure write a good song.
Heck yea
Well well, and there was me thinking that Manfredd Man's version was the original.

We'll pour a glass of wine and fortify our souls. We'll talk about the world and friends we used to know. I see a stream of girls who'd put me on the floor. The game is nearly over, the hounds are at my door.

Anyone know if there is a Joe Val version of this some where?
I know he used to play it. That's the only version I know. I remember him playing it when I was a kid.
I think he may have played it on GOOD MORNING AMERICA in like to 80s.
Let me know. I'd like that.
They sung this on the dukes of hazzard!!!
Who sang it on the Dukes of Hazzard?
John Schneider and tom wopar
FoxReviewsTech Don't forget about Daisy. (Yes, I'm named after Bo)
Boy any y’all had a girl leave you like fox on the run
We walked through the corn leadin down to the river and everything. Hell yes she left me.
I'm still chasing her.
This isn't the the "Fox on the Run" used for Guardians of the Galaxy. But how funny would it have been if it were, lol.
Do you mean the Sweet classic that should only be remembered for them singing it and not a okay movie
@@_smallmac_: Guardians of the Galaxy was absolutely amazing! I think it's probably my personal favorite Marvel film yet.
@@_smallmac_ ah a bruh moment
Songs arent guardians of the galaxy
@@tzoulianoxo750: Yes. You're right. ;)

Gin! Gin! Gin!
Woah now that's edgy for bluegrass.
They sound like the Darlington's
Do you mean the Darlings (real name the Dillards) on the old Andy Griffith show?
Personally, I prefer this recording czcams.com/video/xjQRzH-S_JMo/video.htmlf

Great song but damn is it hard to coordinate lmao
the duke family did it better change my mind
I agree, music or what they call music today, is bunch of crap, if it doesn’t come from soul, it’s void and worthless, like preaching, if god don’t send it, there is no life bout it,
sounds like crap
It is not actually.
This isn't a very good recording.
Fuck you, troll
