Mario is back to the Game Boy, but this time in color.
Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is a remake of Super Mario Bros. ( tasvideos.org/1715M ) with some new game modes, including a challenge mode where coins and time remaining are crucial to gaining the target score, and a race mode where Mario competes against Boo to reach each level's finish first.
This run completes the Original mode, and 33 frames faster (ignoring lag frame differences due to different emulators) than the previous version ( tasvideos.org/2426M ). While this mode looks like a direct port of the NES game, there are different physics and glitches, making optimizing Deluxe a very different task.
There is also a run of the You vs. Boo ( tasvideos.org/2452M ) mode by got4n and the author of this TAS.

@@mariocursed yeah jokes nowadays are stupid
@@Soredli that was 7 years ago lmao
@@nevergonnagiveyouup291 not talking to pablo
@@Soredli never said you were TALKing to pablo
You said "jokes NOWADAYS" when in reality it was 7 years ago
Picture this: As a kid your best buddy comes to your place and says "Hey dude let's go out and have some fun" and you saying "Sure just give me 5 minutes to end Super Mario Bros from start to finish" and having him watching you do this. Speechless :D
I’d say it’s 4:50 using RTA timing. The RTA starts about 7 seconds into this video (but the 2-second splash at the start means about 5 seconds have elapsed before RTA starts) RTA ends on the frame hitting the axe which is about one second later than the final input necessary when TAS stops.
I think mario was in the middle of his TV show, and decided to go save the princess in commercials xD
"And now, a word from our sponsors."
"Finally! This is the perfect time to go get Peach!"
The framerate of this is... beautiful!
@Sebas7710 Certainly better than the 3DO version of Doom.
I mean this game isn’t that bad, but bruh are you for real 😂
@@iPhone7Owner That's a blast from the past. I think 60fps vids just came to youtube and it was amazing to me as a 15 year old. Thanks for the nostalgia.
That 60fps is great
Mario eats spaghetti O's for breakfast!
Beautiful run.
It's funny but weird. People are willing to complain about Peach not being in world 1-4
But everyone ignores the fact that Mario went through eight dangerous worlds just to be told to go back to work.
Mario: Peach, Peach, if you are watching this, you are a little Beatch
why would peach be in 1-4?
I played this game back in the mid 2000's, I had fun. You broke the experience for me. There is one way you can fix this and it is beating all the you vs. boo levels 100%
sick!
If you hold left and right on your d-pad on an GBC Emulator you can slide on the right side while facing left without ever stopping if you release your fingers on your D-pad
That's also possible in super Mario all stars for SNES and super Mario Advance 4 super Mario bros 3 for GBA
Yeah, but it's slower than running. Trust me, I'm TASing the game as we speak lol. In Mario Advance 4, it's so much faster it's funny.
Do any of you know that this is not by a human?
Because the screen size is different. If you kept the physics 100% the same, players would have to react way faster and it would be much harder.
I notice that as a consequence, the wrong warp to the vine in 4-2 no longer works.
Because this is the Game Boy.
Forest LHY Too late, brony.
I guess nintendo has fixed most glitches in this version, right?
This version has another "engine", but have the walljump, but not have the wrong warp (example).
Yes, but unlike the NES and SNES, which are 6502-based (SNES uses the more advanced 65816 update), this one is based on Z80 logic, so you cannot just write down any 6502-based instructions for this.
@@ClassicTVMan1981X well, but you might think that a recompilor could convert 6502 code into Z80 codeand then flag out all unsupported features ,then everything should be manually debugged and adjusted for optimization,am mean if such tool kits already does exist for sooo long, why would you ever remake the source code from scratch??
Why did Nintendo change the physics in a port?
GB has a Z80 CPU but the NES has a 6502 CPU, which is incompatible.
The NES version is coded directly in 6502 assembly, so they had to rewrite all the code for the new CPU architecture.
Actually, the Game Boy doesn't exactly use a Z80, it uses a SHARP LR35902 which is a very similar but incompatible core.
Release Date NA: May 10, 1999
That fps!
Gotta love how this can be faster than the original.
The original TAS has 4:54 I think.
@@paulstelian97 that's RTA timing, TAS timing is 4:57
I would of shit myself if I would of been able to do this as a kid.
check out my smb 1 speedrun with tas
Matth3w W3gr or report you for spamming
Has this been sped up?
Ironically, it's faster than the original.
is the 4:55 in tas timing or rta timing?
And that's without the flagpole glitches, or any of the two wrong warps.
@@tanman. TAS timing
Nice
Lol I compared at mine and his
I use Save states
Piggy Knight do you even know what a tas is?
I dont know but theres parts of the audio that dont sound right but idk if I'm right
this is the game boy version of smb1, so the audio is weird bc of that.
its kinda sad to see this game doesnt have any incredible glitches like the original, really makes the tas more boring to watch lol
I think this games needs a Niftski just like the original and the all stars version
2:10 anyone? clear list... I don't think this was meant to be seen
lol cut
Or just the game glitched for a frame
@@voxelbugged That's not a glitch. That's just the overworld screen. SMB Deluxe has that between every level.
@@piepusher11 I was dumb 4 years ago
I thought SMAS SMB was bad.... WOOF.
This is very acceptable for the gameboy
HOW THA FUQ IS THIS CALLED DELUXE WHEN YOU DON'T EVEN SEE AS MUCH OF THE SCREEN AND THE LEVELS ARE THE SAME?
