See, the bubble hat actually wouldn't do anything. The only thing that helmets protect against is blunt force trauma to your skull, but that's not why football players get brain damage. Even if your skull isn't being cracked, all that bashing against other people at high speeds jostles your brain around inside your skull. Most of the brain damage comes from your brain hitting the insides of your cranium as opposed to the actual blunt force itself. And the bubble hat does nothing to fix this, because your brain is still going to jostle around violently regardless of how much head protection you wear. Personally, I think taking some brain damage for hundreds of millions of dollars is a pretty damn good deal.
I rather keep most of my brain cells intact, thank you.
I think it'd help by allowing space for your neck to decelerate your brain more than without a cage and having your head stop immediately. But it wouldn't stop the risk altogether.
Also, personally I wouldn't trade my brain for money like that. It'd probably change my personality and could be dangerous to others.

It is (obviously) designed to absorb & transfer the energy into protective pads then further send it into your shoulders rather than into your head, a conventional helmet would indeed transfer it into your head but there is a massive difference between the two.

That helmet doesn't prevent brain damage at, no matter how thicker or puffer it gets. Your head will still be moving around and even with momentum and your head not moving, your brain still is moving inside your skull, it's like squeezing a sponge in your hands almost, it's not moving, but it's still being forced into your palm. It's hard to explain

The answer to the problem is simple. In the past car crash tests proved that when the car takes the impact and falls apart, the passenger has bigger chance of survival. If you make a titanium car that doesn't take the impact, passengers take the impact instead. So... why not make helmets/hats that break on bigger impact, with an extra layer to prevent shards from penetrating the head? If you want to play big - you ruin a lot of hats (but you earn millions to pay for the hats).
Andrewik also that would be cool as shit to watch. I'm not a sports person but I just might start if I got to see helmets shattering every other minute
