Heat the dvds with a heat gun for a few seconds and the 2 layers pop apart easily...

If you will break the CD into two halves the layers will be seen & u can easily remove them

For people wanting to know what the difference is, its not what is on the disk that matters, it just matters how the top was printed, whether or not it's that thin plastic or if its been screen printed.
Thanks! Know anyway to remove screen printing? Or the colored tint? Tried alcohol and 100% acetone, neither worked.
@@BeowulfIsMinNama put it in hot water for about 5mins then separate it.
@@BeowulfIsMinNama after heated in water, then dried, use packing tape...stick on, pull off. But it can also pyll off the reflective coating.

You don't need to cut the DVD, just take the disk and separate both halves using a cutter. Once separated you could cut them more easily, due the separated layers are thinner than a CD. Some disks don't show any mark to know what kind of disks are, so you can figure it out looking closely the disk edge: if it is a DVD you will clearly note the two layers. Remember that this can be done only with DVDs. Greetings!

Why do you want to split the CD?
What is the difference if it is split or whole?
If you use clear duct tape you can easily reuse it
If you take a burnt cd or dvd cut a straight line into the middle and youll be able to completely split it between the holo plastic and the clear...jus fyi
All brands use a different type of coating for their label's. That's probably why its harder to cut. The one had white on it, that was their label,

I just found this video and I love this idea and I tried pulling it with the duct tape how do you get the last little bit soft when it doesn't come off completely. And how do you get it to peel a part I haven't been able to do that?

Can't take my CDs apart no matter how much I try. Must be two different kinds of CDs, because the ones I have - CDR - seem to be solid disks. But I gave taking it apart the old college try, anyway, even after I saw there was no hope. I'm just that kind of silly optimist.
what are those scissors known as.. I try the normal pair of scissors and its very difficult to cut accurately..TIA

Those are for cutting bandages off. You might be able to get them at a medical supply. But there is so much medical waste in hospitals, ask if you can keep the disposables when you visit the ER.

I use multi purpose Truper scissors. Found them at Home Depot.

I haven't figured out what to do with the stuff that comes off the CDs yet, but it SURE IS PRETTY!! I think you're right about it being DVDs vs CDs, the DVDs are the ones I have had trouble with. I have a bunch of different kinds floating around the house that I will have to try out though. I LOVE the way that last one looks once you got it apart!! The holographic side looks like Mica flakes!!!!
Tomorrow is payday, with any luck, and I will send something to Stacey, and mail your package out. I'll have to see if she's sent me her address yet. If she hasn't, I will weigh and put postage on her happy mail, and put it in the flat rate envelope I'm sending yours in, so you can address it and send it to her. I really hope she starts feeling better soon. It is so hard to be sick. My lungs have gotten better, but now I have an infected big toe of all things! I have had to get several shots, and now I have to start seeing someone in wound care. Toes are a bad, bad thing to get infected. Even if you keep them absolutely sterile on the outside, that's one of the places our bodies get rid of bad stuff, from the inside out, through the sweat glands. Wish me well. I am taking EVIL antibiotics, that kill EVERYTHING, both good and bad, which is NOT making me feel very good. I will get through this too though. I am looking forward to your next CD recycling videos!! Fran
It has to do with the coating on the top, whether it's screen printed on or if its the thin plastic sheet
No water needed ... split them before cutting as everyone else does .... 100% easier to cut.
