finally! HeroQuest remake needed some fun gimmicks like that... classic heroquest let you do tricks with the treasure chests like balancing them on the weapons of the heroes (except the dwarf, but he could himself balance on TOP of the chest when disarming!). the barbarian was so steady and large he could carry another character above his head! also the cardboard inner trays could double as dice rolling boxes, and you could flip over the stairway and double blocked tiles for "big pits" in homebrew! you could pop the wings (gently) off the gargoyle if things got too crowded, remove the tiles from the closed door bases to convert them into spare "open" doors, and the ogres were semi-posable (arms and heads moved)
Ah finally, a great in-depth look at everything in the box! :D Im going to sell some of my collection so i can buy the new sets. A lot of great stuff in here. Love those new miniatures and added mechanics. Avalon Hill has done a fine job with this expansion.

Didn't know that the arcane prison was hollow underneath... I can see an led thrown underneath it to light it up and give it an eerie glow.
For the Striker, I can see using a homebrew of two handed attacks for that character. Either one less attack die for the off hand, or a special attack that allows her to add an extra die.
I love that they are adding a crafting system. I have my own version that I've been working on, and will have to see how to incorporate this with what I've got.
Channel Dread is any creature, not just one that can cast it... So it could really be evil when hiding behind a wall of orcs, or a pair of the Magus Guard, and of course the Cultists.
On the Reagents kit, I'd say roll a combat die, skull = success, black shield it failed and you're reagents are used up (take some damage as well?)
Ogre Grog, I can see it adding one attack die if you lose the mind point until you sober up.
Unless one of the quests allows us to capture/remove the traitor Ragnar, then is it really over?
I like the hideout rule about resting, leads me to think of some homebrews for campaign type quest books.

Mine came in at BBTS, but since I have a few things that are arriving in the next week or so, I'm waiting on those before I have everything shipped. It's okay though, I'm still slowly making my way through the borefest that is the Spirit Queen's Haslab expansion.

BTW this expansion look like would have been perfect for the rogue Hero, did they change it to accommodate the release of the knight? Did they release the rogue previously to sell the already printed rogues? Just a speculation

Great video! You mentioned the knight missing the equipment cards already, but one other thing I noticed is missing is the lore card that was included with the Guardian Knight pack. They could have added this to the quest book or something. So it's not really a complete representation of the knight, all we're getting is the mini and the skills. It can be found online, but I think it would have been nice to have the lore also included for those who didn't get it originally.
A complete mechanical representation - that still stands in the absence of the lore card since, like the aesthetic and the gender presentment, it doesn't affect gameplay.
It would have been cool to see, although I could also see the lore only applying to the standalone in the context that the exclusive was the commander.
I saw a spoiler heavy review from Always Board, Never Boring and basically the Knight feels like an afterthought. It just doesnât make sense to have the Knights there when itâs an elven adventure. Also with no single quests like the last two expansions, there really is no lore or anything that would make the heroes want to change their hero to the Knight. The only incentive would be to use the Knight skills - but by now Iâm sure the gaming group would be pretty attached to their heroes theyâve cultivated over many adventures prior.
While I like that they made good to give us the Knight hero for retailâŠ..this doesnât quite feel in tune with the rest of the theme of the expansion. But overall there is a lot of cool new mechanics and almost all the quests flow from one to another really well. Iâm planning on taking the crafting mechanic and the hideout tile and putting it into Kellarâs Keep (my kids havenât made it out of the base quests yet) - because each quest there is supposed to flow into the next just like these - with little to no ability to rest.
I have a strong feeling that this wasn't supposed to have the knight. Until late in production.
As the Knight was never meant to be in the box and so isn't tied intothestory, that's the perfect reason to use him to represent Sir Ragnar
@@darth_smooth81 but you get the knight though... retro-actively adding the hideout mechanic is fine if you need some storyline excuse while resting/shopping is allowed underground. I just chalk it up to game mechanics defying realism for the sake of not making it too insanely difficult but each to their own

The new figures look very glossy in comparison. Did they use the same plastic material? Is the red color the exact same tone under sunlight?
some of the furniture feels like a different plastic (door bases, arcane prison) but most of it seems to be the same. I agree Ash's minis look super shiny. special effects lighting?
