I (German) married a girl from California, and we had plans about living in the US, raising our kids there. Before our wedding, I introduced her to my family, so we came over to Europe, and she wanted to expierence a real winter. So we planned to stay here for about 3 months. About two weeks in Germany, she just stated: "This is my home. I want to stay here. This seems like everything I looked for." And so, in a shocking turn of events, we scrapped all our future plans about the US and California, and live now in a small village in Germany.
Planning your marriage is simple compared to the task of planning your future life. Sometimes strange things happen, and you end up in a place you never expected.

Thank you for a very interesting Video. Tell Cody, I came to Germany 48 years ago to lecture for a year at the University and have stayed. I have never regretted for a moment my decision to remain here. I might have been happy in the USA, despite guns, racisim and intolerance, but I have had such a wonderful life here, I just cannot Imagine things could be any better. When I visit the USA I feel very foreign, which shows that I have totally integrated into the German culture. Don't look back, I am certain that he will have a fantastic life with Speedy and their children here.

We just went to Denmark to marry, it was so easy. It is recognized in both countries. I never wanted a big church wedding or something. So we had a easy Standesamt wedding in Denmark. :) And we are a couple since 18 years. :) Nalf, seems you feel some pressure now, since your friends get married and maybe have kids in the coming 2 - 4 years..... If you can´t find a girl in Germany or just feel like you stuck make a travel, sometimes a travel can change everything. It did for me, I went backpacking to Australia with 26 for 3 months and came back with a American - he stayed and we married(3 years later), today we have two kids and well, we live in the US for now, because of his job (I never thought I have to move there). I went for this 3 month travel, because I felt my life should be different, or something has to change. I never been out looking to pick up somebody or even had the thought, but it just happened. I am not a "party girl" or one you pick up easy (more the flower on the wall) I did not even go out at night there. And still - My husband did his backpacking travel over India to Australia - we just meet (no girls dorm, I was surprised) and talked and that was it. He stayed, he never left. :)

Great talk! Got married to my Greek husband in a tiny village in southern Germany and remember the paperwork and the stress to organize accomodation for friends and family coming over from Greece and Italy. We had everything translated also into Italian despite Greek. Was a great wedding!! And the marriage is great, too. As a binational couple you are forced to talk more, so many things are not granted for your partner and I see that as a big strength. We really know each other very deeply and have respect for our differences. My best wishes to Cody and his future wife, they seem to be the kind of couple that works things out, whatever comes along :-) Greetings from a"germ" on a Greek island to the unicorns!!!

Multilingual weddings seem more daunting than they actually are, if everyone is nice. People will always find ways to communicate with one another. Only thing you need is for the texts during the wedding to be in both languages (which churches are fine with too btw if it's a christian wedding).

  • @petrakhaldoun-schweiker6763

I got married to an arabic speaking man from North Africa. It took us more than a year just to get all papers together. The most exhausting part was to get an appointment at the german embassy in Algiers to legalise the birth certificate. Then our migration office tested for 3 months if his passport is real. Then last November we got the ok and 3 weeks later we got married legally in the town hall office (Standesamt). Also the woman who did the wedding insisted on having an interpreter, although my husband said he understand enough german. Well it is a way to make money for german communities. (It costed 100 Euro to have an legally accepted interpreter). The ceremony was bilingual, and it took a while, because I told her how we met and stuff. But you can have it quick by just answering yes at the right time.

Honestly, I don't think you are missing much in Chico or Willows. Since the fires there is such a lack of housing. The rice fields were interesting growing up, although I loved playing in the shop on the Ranch, but the mosquitos man are huge, fortunately they don't bite me, but my friends and family would be covered black in mosquitos. I spent some time there, but many eon's before you were even thought of. I had moved back and was living in Orland, CA because if you try to live in Chico they only show houses M-F between 10 am to 2 pm, and they don't care how old you are or how much you make, all they want is a cosigner on the lease with you. I was like, I am 50 years old and I have a great job. WTF! My company offered me a job in Georgia last year, and I took it after watching most of my friends lose everything in the fires. You are lucky your family is from Willows and wasn't affected other than the horrific smoke. Good luck with the wedding, and I am sure there will be plenty of opportunities for you there in Germany.

We did the two parties thing (husband is Belgian) we got officially married in Belgium, and like you said with the proof of not being married thing, to get that paper I actually had to travel in advance to the US embassy in Brussels to get it there before they would even let us schedule the wedding with the town hall because that's not something that exists in the US. All of the other paperwork (birth certificate, FBI background check and a few other things) I had to get apostilled which was an annoying process. The official ceremony at City Hall was in Dutch only, so my family sort of just had to guess what was happening. Then we had a party back in the States for people who couldn't come. After living here in the US married for a few years, we're actually in the process of moving over to Belgium...ironically the paperwork process has been a lot easier than it was to get married there. Tl;dr good luck to him on the paperwork adventure!

Well, illegal cannabis has, because of the sh... the dealer put into it to stretch the supply. Cannabis in itself can also have long term effects. But it is arguably not worse than alcohol and cigarettes...the biggest risk it is becoming an entry drug. But it might arguably make more sense to inform the population about the risks and allow them to decide.
