How to Map a Stutter Effect on Launchpad (Madeon DJ Set Style)

  • NOTE: For best results using live, make sure you imported tracks are in warp mode and the segment BPM is beatmatched to the project BPM. This allows stutters to sync with the track you're playing so they will be more precise.
    I came up with this method while looking through some other tutorials and trying to figure out this technique for myself. There are some similar methods I found which involve using many beat repeats and a lot more MIDI mapping, but I believe I've found the most condensed, simple way to achieve this effect on launchpad using one instance of the beat repeat.

    This was the same conclusion I had a while ago as well! This was definitely the much more simple way but I wanted to mimic the exact functions so I learned how to use dummy clips and track routing to get the beat repeats exactly how madeon's grid functions along with the light feedback. Keep it up! Also, Lemaitre rocks

    the right way is mapping the user mode buttons to dummy clips containing automation for audio effect rack macros of Beat Repeat

    Great tutorial, thanks for this. Do you know how I could map it so I have the lights in USER 2 mode also work?

    Thank you for this video!! I have a launchpad pro. I was wondering if this was possible with it. I've seen other people able to do it with a Roland SP 404sx or a Kaoss KP3, but i wanted to use the equipment I already have.

      it should be (I do not have a LP Pro, so I cannot tell you for certain), as Ableton recognizes it as a Launchpad. It should have relatively the same functionalities as older versions of the launchpad. Just follow the video's instructions as if I were using a launchpad pro and see what happens. Sorry I can't look into it myself. Good luck!

    This doesn't work for launchpad pro's. can you do a demo for a beat repeat that does?

    Is it possible to make these not toggle, as in the stutter goes for as long as i hold the button?

    • @Romanowitch
      @Romanowitch Před 5 lety +1

      yup ! you'll need a third party m4l device called "toggletogate" (free and easy to find).
      You're gonna have to open it on another midi track, and it works like this: you map the button you want it to be in gate mode instead of toggle in this track, and then map it from this track to whatever value/button/switch you want in whatever other track/effect/ ... you want.
      Fuckin useful :)

    Madeon presses the "Volume" button to deactivate the repetition, it seems that it presses it to deactivate the repetition during a prolonged time, of this way it would never leave the time for the song. Could you explain how Madeon does that? I've been trying, but I've never been able to. I think it was the key because Madeon does it so well!!!

      The top four circle buttons on the right are used somewhat like reset functions where it re-triggers the first button on the corresponding line, which essentially turns off the beat repeat effect :o

      I understand friend, but do you know how to do it like Madeon? Did you succeed? Might you help me? :( How do you do the routing, you can do for Automap? I have the launchpad MK2.
