- On a short work trip Ali and I go for a night swim or a night dip in Sparth Reservoir, Yorkshire. As it is an unknown location to us, I walk you through how I identify the get in during daylight and we return in the dark to get in. Thanks to Jade and James @ProductiveMindsetJourney for sharing their local knowledge about the get in.

Isn't the signage at Sparth a refreshing change? Thanks to the combined efforts efforts and campaigning of regular local swimmers, the canals and river trust changed their attitude from "Keep out" to the much more sensible and welcoming current signage.... fair play to them. 👏👏

We quite often do a full moon swim at our local reservoir. I love it! Swimming in the dark brings a whole new dimension to cold water swimming!! That reservoir looks gorgeous! I’d love to swim around that in daylight too. How lovely to read such a welcoming sign - so refreshing to see!!
I was so chuffed to see the welcoming sign, made me feel a little more confident about the night swim too, weirdly!
Congratulations to that slightly mad bit of fun. You are so lucky to have people to share these adventures with. As I usually swim alone, a night swim in winter is out of the question. I do enjoy sundown swims though.
These past nearly three weeks I havn’t been up to anything due to finally having caught covid which I am still recovering from. So I’ve been watching this filled with the tiniest bit of envy. Good to see you are back into all kinds of adventures.
I often swim on my own too, but it is fun when you can get a bold friend to come along too. Sorry to hear you've caught Covid, I hope you are on the mend. The water is waiting for you x

Hey Rachel, how cool that your swim buddy Ali is always keen for adventure. I love it, and I love that you share your friendship and fun times in the water with us. I also love that British word “torch”. Every time I hear it, I always expect to see flames. We Canucks use the term “flashlight”, which is really quite boring in comparison. I have a question: How do you get your tow floats to light up like that. They look really cool… all glowing orange and green, and I bet they provide a bit of light and are a safety device too. I hope you’ll share your technique for glow-tow-floats with us. Great video… I got behind with video watching on your channel before Christmas, but I’m all caught up now. Hey Mary, thanks for watching this one. I love the flashlight vs torch comment - maybe we'll try and incorporate a flaming torch on an adventure just for your amusement! We put the torch inside the tow float to make it glow. Mine also had clothes in it so it wasn't as effective as Ali's which only held the torch. Just planning another unusual but local adventure which could see us taking on some scrambling and swooshing (in full watersports wetsuits) in the name of fun. Stay tuned! Great night swim 😊 just to say when I've swam at night I pop a head torch on for the swim and lantern on edge. Found the head torch brilliant, helps with getting in, swimming, getting out and getting dressed 😊
I forgot the one for the get out, I had brought an extra one especially, but ended up leaving it in the hotel room by accident. The torches in the tow floats were our head torches, so they went back on our heads for getting dressing - made it so much easier!

Hi Rachel! I've missed you. My algorithms must have decided not to show you . Looks great. Did a supermoon swim in the summer, first night swim proper, was lovely. That looked brave.😊
It's lovely being in the water in the dark. I would prefer a more obvious or extensive get in/get out, like the gently shelving beach at my nearest beach. The steps added a level of worry especially with me having forgotten my brand new torch!
@@EverydayAthleteRach I'd find that quite daunting in the daylight! You seem to be travelling a lot at the moment, is that a work thing?

Your video gives me an idea to do this at our usual swimming spot. I sometimes go night sailing and then we place a bright lamp on the jetty to help us find the jetty. I always find your videos very fun and inspiring. We swim at the Netherlands nearby Hoogeveen. We always swim at a former sand quarry where a beautiful beach has now been built. @Paviljoen Nijstad
I had forgotten the torch that I bought especially to leave at the top of the steps. It’s much more comforting to have the way out marked. Floating in the water in the dark is a great experience. I hope you can find someone to give it a go with. I’m going to google your swim spot and have a look where you swim, love seeing where everyone else is getting in! Enjoy the water 💦😀
