Chris Cross (real name Chis Allan) one of the founding members of Ultravox has passed away aged 71. Chris died on the 25th of March 2024 but the news of his death wasn't announced until late last night...
Chris co-wrote Vienna which was Ultravox biggest hit, as the bands bass player it has been said by Midge that Chris "was the glue that held the band together"...
Thanks Chris for being the driving force that created Ultravox and brought us music loving fans one of the greatest synth bands of all time, your legacy and music will live on forever... RIP

Is it just me or did they have another video for this song that was like a mini movie? Everything from twenties night club to war scenes and torch lit processions! God if I could have the eighties again I'd party more and worry less

I bought this record sight unseen at a used record store in 2004. I loved it, but I lost that record when I left my ex girlfriend the following year. I miss it. It was a bright spot in a dark chapter.

played this all the time in 81 ,with my large bass sansui speakers .the neighbours must have liked it they phoned the polis so they could enjoy the bass line too .classic ultravox song

I had the pleasure of meeting Midge a couple months ago in Columbus, Ohio. (Paul Young was in the room too, but I completely ignored him! Ha! Ha!) Midge was very polite and friendly. Very cool guy! He talked with my friends and I for about 20 minutes before his show that night. He has some great stories to tell about the early days of new wave and the legends he has worked with over the years. He doesn't realize that he is a legend too!
Mike McQuaide Midge’s Voice is amazing when you look at todays Bands like White Lies & The Editors you can see where they get their influence from.
I think he's much "mellower" now than the olden days. 😉

Ah, this brings back great memories of listening to Ultravox on the Rock and Roll Alternative. Ultravox was always so underrated on the American side of the pond.
Still sing this as loud as I can to educate my neighbours on what good music is😂😂

When I was growing up listening to the music of ultravox was absolutely amazing I used to blast the tunes and dance like hell in my room it used to be good fun those where the days when you didn’t just listen to music you also felt it ultravox is still one of my best bands keeps the spirits high Colin Corcoran

Big influence on Gary Numan's sound. Ultravox along with OMD my favourite groups of 1980's futurist / New Romantic movement. Great music with style & panache.
Gary preferred the John Foxx version of the band.

I like John Foxx also as a solo artistes & LP 'Metamatic' especially enjoyed the single 'Europe after the Rain' one of the best songs of 1981. This was No 5 in my Radio Whitburn Top Forty for that year. My equivalent of John Peel's festive fifty. Homosapien by Pete Shelley was my No 1.

i basically listent to this gorgeous piece of art every day.
I just can't get enough.
Although I'm used to listen to hard music (including death metal) but this song is so deep and moving that I listen to it several times a day. No one writes such songs today.The chorus is incredible, and it makes me in high spirits.
ive followed midge ure/ultravox since i was younger nearly in teens !! his voice is so additive , soothing and comforting also x so many of his songs is too many to mention x but he was one of a kind and u wont hear music like that anymore !! i wish him longlife and happiness and thank u for being there for me to hear you sing with uour unique raw talent xx

It got to number 16 in the UK charts in November/December 1981. It's about the power and influence of print and broadcast media propoganda I believe,which makes it a very apt song for our times today,with issues of who controls how much of the media and the advent of wonderful things like Fake News,Post-truth,etc.

im born -89, grew up with this music thanks to my parents. Still listening to it today, and im 29 now. im gonna listen to this while my children are young, so they do the same to their children. let no one escape this masterpiece.

In my opinion the best song of Ultravox, if you pay attention you can find the different instrument playing like all. The piano, and guitar marvelous.

@Frank Filthyfinger Actually, Warren wanted to be like a drum machine, with its timing. One of his delights is the confusion as to which tracks were played with drum machine and which with real drums. His quest to be like a drum machine is evident on many Ultravox tracks.

This whole album is a gem. It gave me the idea and courage to try playing the violin, just to have a sense of it. I'm more of a piano person, but if I had the time, I would have taken more violin classes.

They were one of the most popular, successful and well known bands of the era and produced seven top ten albums and 17 top 40 hits including one of the biggest hits of the 80's "`Vienna"...
That's a lot more than many bands achieved, so how you came up with that notion of yours is strange to say the least !!! 🤔
