In this video, my buddy Marcos Giron (currently ATP #70) share some tips to improve your timing when hitting groundstrokes, both forehand and backhand, to always hit "on top" of the ball and pressure your opponent even when you're not "feeling the ball" great.

@@MyTennisHQ You guys have the right timing, preparing the swings while the ball is still crossing the net. That's the timing that I use for hitting those penetrating balls. And I always watch the bounce of the ball to see what height the ball is if I can flatten it all out or just hit it back normal.. But many rec club players unfortunately have late timing with the ball and let the bounce get up too high because of having poor late racquet preparation Late timing causes them difficulties in hitting back the ball or they hit weak loopy short balls.

I have been using this 'hit the ball at the peak' during matches, with the 90/10 rule and really hitting through the ball more. It has really stopped the noise in my head, improved my feet, awareness, and damned if the ball doesn't really penetrate the court so well. I had a guy with a huge serve tonight, and I was on TOP of that big serve and the returns were safe, hard, and consistent. I was thinking clearly---normally, I chip and slice, and am definitely not on top of the ball moving forward. The difference was like being in someone else's body playing. Thank you both so much.

Was just at Delray and watched the full Giron vs. Sandgren match. Marcos won in straight sets, but definitely played better in the back half of the match. Great to see him playing well. Also, seems very humble and appeared to be a genuinely nice person. Quite a role model, working through the multiple surgeries, working hard on the court, etc. Hope he continues to progress.

Marcos strokes sound so raw without dampener, can't imagine myself not using one.
This was a great tip indeed. I was extremely off today, definitely lazy footwork, bad attitude, not following through. Backhand was terrible, I shanked more than the ones I hit clean, and the rest were just off centered. Even my eyes were lazy.
Will focus on these 2 tips, hitting at the peak to move my ass and track the ball seeing how it bounces. Thanks!

@@MyTennisHQ I like the tip for me personally. But as a coach myself, would you say this is a good tip for every level. I really love your content but I do think that you could maybe specify every time you give tips to whom it applies. It might be misleading otherwise. Because taking the ball after the highest point, when it is coming down again is surely easier, so better suited for beginners. The ball then loses pace and the timing is a lot easier because the ball is in line with the stroke (ball coming down, racket moving up, as apposed to hitting the ball on the rise). Again, love the content. But maybe specify to which level it applies?

    Great video Karue! Thanks.
Would be great if you could make a video about how to unlock your non-dominant arm upon rotation. Sometimes it does not go together with the hip rotation and then it prevents from giving power to the stroke. Any tip?
