He is one of my top 5 male vocalists. Elvis loved him. Can't find a better recommendation than that! I've seen him in concert several times...but the best was a night club in Birmingham. Each person there thought he was singing to them. I will never forget how that felt. ❤
Glad you are doing more of Roy Orbison's songs. He could sing real high falsetto & also low. Roy had lots of hits in the 60's such as "Running Scared", "Love Hurts", "Blue Bayou", "Blue Angel", "Leah", "Dream Baby (How Long Must I Dream)" etc. In 1988, he co-founded the Traveling Wilburys (a rock supergroup) with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, & Jeff Lynne. They had a lot of great songs such as "Handle With Care", "End Of The Line" etc.
Elvis held Roy Orbison in very high regard, publicly stating that Roy had ' most perfect voice' and taking the stage after an Orbison performance, said to the audience '’he’s simply the greatest singer in the world' during one of his Dec. 1976 Vegas concerts.
As Bono stated "Everyone bows down to Roy's voice". George Harrison when part of the travelling wilbury's stated that with Roy singing over his shoulder it would send a shiver down his spine. To think that at this time he was pretty weak and was just over a year before he died and still delivered the show and this performance. One of my favourites from Roy Orbison i mean the lyrics four inconsolable minutes during which stars cry, rainbows weep, golden days are sorrowfully recalled and drums beat out a leaden funeral march, before it all reaches a terrible climax, . The greatest break-up song ever and without a chorus. That was Roy Kelton Orbison
So glad you played this Stan. I love it. There is another singer from the same era that I love too. Gene Pitney. Please react to him singing "I'm Gonna Be Strong" ( if possible the version uploaded by top401965). And tell me if the magnificent crescendo right at the end gives you chills, as it always does for me.
All his songs are wonderful. But it's too bad you couldn't have heard his original version when he was younger & had a more powerful voice. A totally different song that you've missed out on. 😔
The Golden voice of Roy. No one sings like Roy.
The best voice ever.

John Lennon said that Roy was the only opera singer in rock.
