I like Public Enemy but the best part was that Anthrax changed 'Farrakhan is a prophet' to 'Farrakhan is a racist' on the version on their album. He most certainly is. Not only a racist but a religious extremist who preaches hate. Oh yeah and he most probably had Malcolm X killed.

The bald dude rapping was Scott Ian, one of the Anthrax guitarists and a rap fan. The guy with the ball cap playing with the turntable was Joey belladonna, their singer, and he borrowed that hat from Flava Flav. This was the first time a rock band had enough respect for a rap group to actually tour and perform together and both sets of fans got along great. Chuck D had a lot of respect for metal too, he was on the same label as Slayer back in the day and sampled a Slayer riff on "She Watch Channel Zero".

Also if you like the vibe of this early 90's rap rock collaboration then check out the likes of House Of Pain and Helmet doing "Just Another Victim" or Faith No More with Boo-Yaa Tribe doing "Another Body Murdered" both from the "Judgement Night" soundtrack. The 'bald dude' that was rapping is Scott Ian, guitarist and occasional background vocals for Anthrax. The long-haired dude at the turntable is also a member of Anthrax, I believe that's Joey Belladonna (who was the vocalist for Anthrax at that time).
Also this collaboration was the idea of both Anthrax and Public Enemy, since they've all been friends for years. The collaboration was suggested not only out of friendship and mutual respect for each other, and also because of their shared love of music and performing for their fans.
And even though I'm not a fan of Rap, I still love this collaboration because of the shared love of music all these dudes have.
Plus I like how they're following the footsteps layed down by the collaboration between Aerosmith and Run DMC with the Aerosmith song 'Walk This Way', which was done in the early 90's if I recall correctly (and which I first saw the video for on MTV Headbangers Ball when I was in High School), which was also awesome in my opinion.

As you know, Anthrax is part of the "Big 4", who were the four biggest thrash metal bands (Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer), all of whom which had arguably their biggest albums released in 1986. Anthrax came from New York (mainly Brooklyn and Queens), who were also into the huge rap scene at the time. Also keep in mind, that same year - 1986/1987, were the same years that the Beastie Boys hit big with License to Ill, Public Enemy first came out (before Fight The Power and the movie "Do The Right Thing"), Run DMC hit big with My Adidas/You Be Illin', etc. So it was hard for them to *NOT* like rap, as it was just as prolific as they were. anthrax were speed/thrash metal, but they were urban/more streetwise than the rest of the metal bands at that time.
This was the second ong to do the rap/rock/metal collab, as Run DMC covered Aerosmith's Walk This Way, along with Aerosmith. As others mentioned, Biohazard and Onyx collaborated on Onyx's "Slam", which is another one to check out. If it weren't for this song, Walk This Way, and Slam, you basically wouldn't have rap metal, or the collabs you have today.

Anthrax is a new york-based thrash metal band where as the other three came from San Francisco and LA! This song came out in 1990 I watched it the day it dropped on MTV it was in the summertime I was taking breaks in between swimming I was eating and I saw this it really did change the way people thought about thrash metal and stuff like that because it kind of crossed over generations and people kind of dug it I mean the Beastie Boys made a living off of combining punk rock and rap together! It was great for skateboarding I know that!

Being a fan of Public Enemy, Scott asked Chuck D if he wanted to do a song together. Scott was apparently expecting to get shut down but, as you can see, that didn't happen.

Got to see the tour with primus, Public enemy and Anthrax, in Oakland, in early 91, I think this came out in 91 early 92?
This was before Flavor of Love came out,
During the show I saw, public enemy left the stage, Primus was next, as different fans began switching from the floor to the seats, two tall as hell dark guys, watching the Primus roadies set up, the crowd started chanting "Primus Sucks" and "Tom!!! Your an asshole!!!" These two guys looked at eachother one guy says, "Damn, that's fucked up!" My friend and I were dying 🤣🤣🤣😎😁💜 Great show, I got a pick from Scott Ian 😁💜😎🦄

Some would say that Exodus is the 5th of the Big 5. I do put Linkin Park in the nu metal category, but not Evanescence. More Anthrax reacts please!!! Indians, I'm The Man, Got The Time, Caught In A Mosh, Madhouse, Antisocial, Time, I Am The Law, Keep It In The Family, Belly of the Beast...

There was a rap/rock sampler back in 1993 called judgement night with some interesting songs on it. I like the song another body murdered from boo yaa tribe together with faith no more because it has a dark feeling for a rap/rock song. Besides for me as a rock fan i must say boo yaa tribe is my favorite rap band the albums of them especially the first two are so godamn funky and i love the raps of gangsta rid, sad that he passed away. Boo yaa tribe made also a rap/rock album on their own. I saw them two times live in germany with their rap songs and with their rap/rock songs and everytime they played their shows with real instruments. These big huge samoans are the real deal. Cheers from germany

Pantera was more 'thrash' than Megadeth but I'm not sure I would count either as 'thrash'. I'm not entirely sure why people think Megadeth was thrash metal other than the timing and association with Metallica. That said, they all rocked. Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Sepultura... the list goes on... They all definitely created their own sound. Thrash is often signified by the use of guitars as a different kind of drumming rhythm instrument. Using a guitar to play a drum beat, often at high speeds. Occasionally you can even gear classical progressions in thrash metal. Slayer was particularly associated with the drummer using a double bass at ridiculous speeds while the guitarists played fast rhythms, making their songs sound like complex layers of rhythms on top of rhythms moving incredible speed. Guaranteed to get the adrenaline flowing.

The fifth band in the big four would probably be testament or exodus. The bald headed guy rapping isnt a rapper but the lead guitarist of anthrax. He is a huge fan of public enemy and he wanted to make a song with them for years before this. After this song was released they went on a international tour with public enemy as the support act and at the end of their set both bands would hit the stage to perform this song together. The live clip is on youtube and i think its better than the studio version. Definetly worth checking out.

Both Linkin Park and Evanescence are top tier Nü Metal bands. Linkin Park came out right in the absolute peak of Nü Metal, 2000 and 2001 (although as a band they started years before that), and Evanescence had it's mega huge breakthrough with their debut Nü Metal album "Fallen" in 2003. Evanescence's "Fallen" and both Linkin Park's "Hybrid Theory" (2000) and "Meteora" (2003) were huge staples for the Nü Metal genre. Both bands alongside all their peers (Korn, Limp Bizkit, RATM, Kid Rock, Slipknot, Papa Roach, Deftones, Coal Chamber, SOAD, Soulfly, Crazy Town, among others) helped merging Metal and Rap/Hip Hop and established a completely different but super fresh and innovative sound. And many of these bands had a lot of featurings with prominent rappers and Hip Hop artists (Limp Bizkit alone has features with Run DMC, Method Man, Redman, DMX, Lil' Kim, Xzibit, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne and even two songs with Eminem - when he still was Slim Shady. Also Korn has super dope collabs with Ice Cube and Nas). But as you can tell by this collab you just watched and reacted to, this all "Rap Metal/Rap Rock/Nü Metal" started almost a decade before it really blew up (late 90s and early 00s) when bands like Anthrax and Aerosmith started to experiment and combined their ultra heavy sound with Hip Hop groups like Run DMC and Public Enemy (in the 80s and early 90s) to add a new and unique flavor to their heavier sound. And even before all those Nü Metal bands came out and took over the music world with a massive change in the way music was being made at that point in time, this collab between Anthrax and Public Enemy sounded super fresh and funky as hell years prior to all of that! The world was ready for a change in the early 90s and this undoubtedly was one of the precursors for what came after some years later, the whole Nü Metal Era. Btw Staind has a badass cover of this song ft. Fred Durst and DJ Lethal (Limp Bizkit). You should check that one out too 🔥🔥

Joey Belladonna was the regular singer for Anthrax at the time...he was the one messing around with the decks with Flav...Anthrax are considered the fourth-best thrash metal of all time (though arguably Testament could easily hold that spot too) Scott Ian is the bald dude rapping and plays rhythm guitar and does some vocals as well...he was pretty much instrumental in putting this together because he is also a big hip hop fan...if you want to react to a song of theirs that displays their thrash pedigree I would suggest Indians, Caught in a Mosh or I am the Law...Belly of the Beast is also a good one.
