  • For his first miniature in 20 years, Core decides to tackle something that he never painted before. A loyalist Space Marine (He has always been more of a heretic). And what better than a noble Blood Angel Intercessor to warm up his skills and confidence?! In this video, Core will share his experience painting this miniature, the challenges of working with the gear that you have at hand and how much freakin edge highlights you can find on a Space marine armor. You 'll even get some freehand painting for your time.

      @@ArtCoreMinis Yes, still collecting and have a huge Space Wolves army. New stuff is great, but my heart is with those old metal minis I collected as an 18 year old. My very first mini was the original Ragnar Blackmane and he is in my display case front and center.

      Old metal minis had a charm that has been a little lost with the transition to a more realistic style. Don't get me wrong, I like how crisp those new models are and they are definitely a blast to paint but, that old Ragnar Blackmane model is the perfect exemple of the retro style miniatures that I will always love above all.

    I enjoyed your perspective. I am not interested in speed painting or painting an army. That being said, it is extremely hard to find channels that paint for display quality. There are some but they almost always assume that you have some prior experience. The way you laid out the episode made it very easy to follow, but more importantly your information was incorporated in a way that was easy to follow and grasp. please continue your efforts. They are very much appreciated! I think I may have found my "goto" channel for quality tutorials. Mahalo!

As we are first and foremost display painters, you can expect a lot of that and other creativity focused projects on our channel. Even our approach of tabletop painting (because sometimes, people do need a faster output) will be more about how to be economical timewise while achieving a high impact look and not just slap some contrast paint on a poor miniature.

      @ArtCoreMinis  Před rokem +1

      Glad you like it. Usually, I am thinning the paint with the Vallejo airbrush thinner and a few drops of flow improver. For this mini though, I only used a bit of matt medium and some distilled water.
      Thinning ratio greatly depends of the paint range but even with paint formulated for airbrushing, I work with a thinner/paint ratio of about 3 to 1. For thicker paints like citadel of AK, the ratio can easily go to 6+ to 1.
      I work with very thin and transparent layers and systematically flash dry between each layer to achieve a very smooth finish. Hope this helps.

      Excellent! Merci et excuse nous pour la réponse tardive. 😊
      L'avantage de la colle (superglue, pas la colle pour plastique qui fusionne le polystyrene) est qu'elle se sépare très facilement et permet de bien sécuriser les petites pieces. Sinon, il est tout à fait possible d'utiliser une patte de fixation de qualité sans que cela laisse de résidu sur une surface déjà peinte. Perso, je préfère le Blu-Tak à la Patafix parce qu'elle garde une meilleur consistence et fait moins crade après plusieurs utilisations. Nous utilisons celle-ci amzn.to/3GLv9CW mais si tu as déjà de la Patafix, ça devrait faire l'affaire. 👍🏽

      Ah, the good old times (or the idea of it). I don't know about the game because I haven't played since 3rd or 4th edition but where today's models have gained in details and elegance (amazing to paint), they might have lost a bit of charm, goofiness and fun. I might revise this opinion next time I have to paint a twisted face on a vintage Warhammer minis.

    I painted my first Assault Intercessor recently as well. I only had to strip the paint in an IPA bath twice. It's definitely a great idea to paint the parts first and glue them together later! I need to get the "proper" opaque paints though, the runny and easily reactivating Speedpaints are not really my cup of tea.

I also am used to using tamiya paints . When it comes to paint brands, ignore what everyone says is "the best" or "what you should use". Your style is very likely quite different than theirs. I'd suggest just trying a couple of each brand, maybe a traditionally translucent color like a red or yellow and a traditionally opaque color like a dark green or blue - but, then, you probably know that. The brands I might suggest to try are, besides Vallejo and Citadel: Reaper, P3, Pro Acryl, Scale 75, Army Painter, and MIG. That covers a nice variety of some of the best brands.
    As for which Space Marines were my first... well, I bought the original release of Rogue Trader (First Edition) three days after it came out here in the US, so I've been painting Space Marines, Eldar, and such since the beginning.

      @@ArtCoreMinis You could say that we just didn't know better ;) Painting tons of identical models was part of the foundation of Warhammer, waaaay before we even dreamed about 3D-printers. I did however get myself a few of those classic tin soldier packages, and in my youth ran these (out of scale) selfmade orcs of mordor as ork boyz for a while :P

    • @ArtCoreMinis
      @ArtCoreMinis  Před rokem

      haha, no, we didn't for sure. 3rd edition was a game changer in term of modularity (it made those plastic dark Eldar a little wonky and fragile though). Orks are one of those army that required to align so many miniatures on the battlefield that it wasn't the most budget friendly army and looking for alternative model was a good idea. I had that with Skavens in Warhammer Fantasy. 😅

    • @ArtCoreMinis
      @ArtCoreMinis  Před rokem +1

      The photo is actually as close as possible to the real color of the miniature (we would never falsely edit or enhance a photo). The issue comes from shooting the video on a flat Log profile and that I didn’t realize how far off the saturation was when color grading until we shot the thumbnail. Oh well… first time shooting miniature painting, we had to make a mistake. 😅

    • @kraziel
      @kraziel Před rokem

      @@ArtCoreMinis Ah, I see! Well then, fair enough in that case, and a really good result! Normally these paints are not that bright, we have to use some "fosforescent" colors that are really absurd in saturation to achieve that.
