Sweet. I just planted a dwarf greengage plum while in dormancy. Its starting to wake up.
Had my first Luisa plum today. Very impressed. Much bigger and better flavour than I expected. Almost mango shaped with a lovely sunset colour. I love those greengages too. Not showey but that flavour speaks for itself.
Nice!
It's a very nice plum !
In France the original name of Greengage plum is « Reine Claude » and there are several cultivars. The most famous and my favorite plum is « Reine Claude Doree » but need absolutely cross pollinisation
Prune d’Agen (Agen is a city) is famous for its dehydrated plum
Thanks for the info!
Picked up a Greengage today from Werribee Heritage Farm. Need to track down a Sugar Plum now.
Get a D'Argen, it's an excellent tasting polinator for Greengage.
@RealLifeFruitopia Thanks. I already have a big D'Argen.
Yes I also think a sugar plum is the variety known as Victoria in the UK.
Nice looking selection of plums George 👍
Thanks for the info, Brett.
Victoria is a heritage plum variety.l from England. My grandad had one in his old orchard. Its a largish European plum about the size of a small chicken egg and a good producer but only with a mild flavour and sweetness. I have a small one I bought online but its not fruiting yet.
Is Sugar Plum also known as Victoria? I only planted European plums last year, but I'm hoping they'll fruit this year. If not probably the year after.
Not sure on its other names. If you're in a cooler climate, you'll get fruit next year.
The Victoria plum is a heritage variety and is a type of "egg" plum, alot of English people probably still remember them. You can still get the plants online occasionally . I have one tree but its still small and not fruiting yet. I used to eat one though as a kid that my grandfather planted it was a large soft pleasant plum but not a particulary intense flavour.
I did some Googling and the "Sugar Plum" is its own European plum cultivar.
Hi George. Did you try D’Agen plum which wasn’t ripe when you recorded this video. If so, was it better than Sugar plum? Thanks.
The last D'Agen is still hanging on.
Hi. Did you manage to taste D’Agen? Was it better than Sugar Plum? I already have a Green Gage and need one more for pollination so I am wondering D’Agen or Sugar. Thanks
@@BobY1T1 D'Agen is better for cross-pollination and slightly better tasting IMO, but they are both excellent choices.
I would be shading that jackfruit on the North West side my friend.
The small tree recently planted? That gets shade most of the day from the bananas, with some dappled light.
Near where you removed the bananas. I think jackfruit really appreciates an understory condition.@@RealLifeFruitopia
