I do use treats for training up to a point. But I use the tiny training treats, not large milk bones, table scraps, etc. I don't need the vet or the dog food instructions to tell me how much to feed my dog. While I do measure the food, I look at and feel my dog. If the dog is at a good weight, I am doing it right. Too fat or too skinny, I adjust the amount. Two dogs of the same breed and approximately same age can have different metabolism. Pay attention to the dog, folks.

I free feed my pit, I fill his bowl will dry kibble and leave it. He only tends to eat when hungry, like he will only eat twice a day. My vet said he is perfect weight and to carry on feeding him like I do. I've tried schedule feeding but it just doesn't work for me. I would put some food down twice a day and give him a command to eat it. He just walks away, so it really depends on the individual dog

If you weigh out the treats & remove that from your dogs daily region or use your dogs food as treats then your dog won't get fat. As long as you do this there is no need to fade treats out.

free feeding teaches your dog to eat until he's full (just like humans). If you're always rationing meals they'll inhale everything.

#2 you give too many treats ---> I disagree with this points advice on replacing treats with petting/praise/walking/games, especially walking because walking isn't instantaneous enough to mark/reward a behaviour you are trying to train. Most dogs will be primarily food motivated and telling people to not use a primary motivator will make training not as enjoyable for the animal, instead the advice should be to measure out the total amount of food that animal needs for the day and use that as treats, then the left overs feed at their meals :)

Yes, that is why you train clicking and praise sounds, so it knows exactly when it did something good. You should not be using food all the time because its worse, and it can be bad food

People say if you leave food out they will gorge themselves to death we have free feed all of our animals rn we have 3 dogs 3 cats none of them gorge..... well we got a puppy and one of our dogs is not fixed and he got kind of food aggressive but he’s calmed down now. If you do portions then free feed it’s hard to start free feed because they think that this will be the only time to eat till next time I better make the most of it then they gorge if you first free feed then their is no problem

Plus water I would never do it any other way. Plus she eat much less this way. I think any good brand would do we use Science Diet.

My dogs vet is pushing purina even though it upsets our dogs tummy and is pushing free feeding opposed to a schedule. We have to add a little bone broth to her kibble to get her to eat, and we offer her an am bowl and pm. He doesn’t want us to mix anything with it though. I kinda am considering finding a new vet.

This video is accurate with every dog. I leave my dog's food out all day, and he eats when he is ready. He is a pitbull that is solid muscle, so weight gaain isn't a problem. also, you can give your dog a bone, just not a cooked bone. A raw bone doesn't splinter, what do you think wild dogs eat, or dogs before we had food come in a neat bag in the grocery store.

If this video is about feeding our dogs wrong, then it is ALL wrong from the moment that considers and shows kibble as a "correct" food. It is known kibble is the worse we can feed them. And about bones, all wrong as well, dogs fed with NATURAL food (raw) can and should eat bone, their digestive tract is completely prepared for this and as long as they eat raw food, the acidity would be the right one to dissolve any bone.

    • @emocraps07
      @emocraps07 Před 5 lety

depends on the bone too.. but I've tried feeding my dogs raw and it makes them sick every single time. once they're back on whole earth farms dry kibble / can food... they're fine. I wanted to try raw but I guess it's not for every dog (and when I took them to the vet, the vet told me it was good that they're not on raw diet.. so I'm not sure what to believe. they're healthy with the food they have so that's what I stick to. one of my dogs ate a steak bone (by accident) and tore it to pieces and shit out blood for a few days so I guess their digestive tract wasn't having it

As an owner of a service dog, I believe most of these are wrong exept for one. Free feeding your dog. It is an option for you if you just can't do it any other way, but I highly don't encourage it. I have to have my dog on an eating skedual to keep up with the rest of her skedual. However some pets may work better otherwise. Next, bones. I don't recommend giving cooked bones to your dog. Raw beef, pork, or deer bones work much better with cleaning the dog's teeth. I would recommend using them on occasion. "Over treating." Yes, a lot of people just grab the fattiest and most unhealthy treats and just shove their dogs mouth full of them. DON'T DO THAT. I use a LOT of treats for my dog's training. However, I invest some money to getting the much better and healthier dog treats with low calories for her training. If you can't afford that it's okay to buy the fatty treats, just don't give them too many. 1 or 2 a day is more than enough with those kinds. Also, I do NOT recommend kibble for your dog. Raw diets, homemade diets, or even wet diets work much better. However if you can't afford that considering it can get pretty expensive and risky to raw feed your dog with all the pesticides going into food now, kibble can be okay. I would highly recommend getting the grain-free dog food as much as possible. Mabey a little bit of brown rice is okay, but if it has anything like corn or oats, DO NOT GET IT. It's extremely unhealthy for your dog and hard for them to digest.
Have a nice day everyone. ;3

No all this video is feeding your dog wrong. You should feed raw diet not Crappy kibble. And don't say kibble is healthier because I will reply with so you're saying highly processed food that's been cooked at high temperatures that's drained all the nutrients out and has loads of nasty carbs (that dogs don't need! They need protein from MEAT) is better than actual real food? Also raw meat can't make your dog sick, they have shorter digestive track and stronger stomach acids allowing them to eat raw meat and RAW bones (not cooked bones as they're harmful) and its safe for them to eat.

You know what really grinds my gears, when people who feed kibble insist that feeding a dog raw will make them blood thirsty and more aggressive. Pfffffttttt.....
A friend of mine (long time raw feeding practitioner) chatted with a person who wanted to feed his pure breed dog raw but was having doubts because he was afraid it would make the dog ill and because he had paid a large sum of money for said dog he didn't want to feed it a diet that might make it sick and spend more money on vet bills should that happen. F'ing gold start pet owner that one * note the sarcasm.* I wanted to punch a wall so hard.

Muddy Pawz Not everybody can afford to feed their pets a raw food diet and while dogs and cats can digest raw meat it doesn't mean they should eat it. Vets have been warning people about the potential risk of feeding dogs and cats a raw-meat based diet. In a new analysis of 35 commercial raw dog and cat foods, researchers found that 86% of products contained potentially dangerous bacteria. The new study published in the BMJ's Vet Record, looked at commercial dog and cat food commercially available in the Netherlands. In an email, the study authors said that raw-meat pet foods for sale in the United States are “without a doubt similar” to those tested in the study.Raw meat-based pet-food diets (sometimes referred to as RMBDs) have become increasingly popular around the world, the study authors wrote in their paper. “Yet claims of health benefits are not backed by evidence,” they wrote, “and several studies have reported possible risks.”Those risks don’t just apply to the pets themselves, says Paul Overgaauw, a veterinarian and visiting researcher at Utrecht University. Humans can get sick from bacteria and parasites lurking in raw-meat products, too. In fact, humans may face higher risks than their pets, who can be carriers and shedders of these pathogens even when they don’t become sick themselves.Majority reports of infections being transmitted from pets to owners have been anecdotal, says Overgaauw.“But I can imagine that cross-contamination in the kitchen during preparation of the food, and cleaning of the food bowls-as well as direct contact with infected animals-are the highest risks,” he says. Humans may also be exposed to harmful pathogens when cleaning up an infected animal’s waste or when an infected animal licks its owner’s face or hands. To find out how real these risks are, Overgaauw and his colleagues analyzed samples of 35 frozen pet-food products from eight different brands, all of which are available at pet shops and supermarkets in the Netherlands. The foods contained raw meat, bones, and animal by-products from beef, duck, chicken, lamb, and horse, along with additional ingredients.E. coli bacteria was found at levels above the threshold for human consumption in 40% of the pet-food products. Even more worrisome, E. coli 0157-a particularly dangerous strain currently responsible for a lettuce-based outbreak in North America-was found in 23% of the samples. The researchers also tested for listeria and salmonella bacteria, and found them in 43% and 20% of the samples, respectively. Two potentially harmful parasites-Sarcocystis cruzi and Toxoplasma gondii-were also detected in 11% and 6% of the products. The former is known to be dangerous to farm animals, while the latter has been linked to illnesses in cats and humans (including mental illness in cat owners) in the United States.Despite the relatively low number of products tested in the study, the authors say it’s clear that commercial RMBDs may be contaminated with a variety of zoonotic bacterial and parasitic pathogens, which can pose a risk to pets and to their owners. Earlier analyses on raw pet food in the United States also found similar levels of contamination.
Studies have also shown that cats and dogs who eat raw-meat diets are also more likely to become infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria than those on conventional diets of dry or canned food, the authors add. That can have further implications for pet owners and for public health in general.Commercial raw-meat pet foods sold in the United States and Europe contain “all kinds of meat, organs, and bones, sometimes with vegetables or fruits added,” says Overgaauw. “I think that in the U.S. especially, owners are much more liking the convenience, and buy these products instead of preparing raw food on their own.”“As an evidence-based working veterinarian, I don’t support these products,” he says-not only because of the risk of infection, but because not all of them offer complete and balanced nutrients that dogs and cats need to grow and stay healthy.
“Every owner may decide what to feed his or her pet,” says Overgaauw, but he does believe that warning labels should be added to products containing raw meat. He also believes that pet owners should be educated-by vets, pet stores, and pet-food companies-about the importance of personal hygiene and proper handling of these foods, so they can make the best decision for their pets and for themselves.

i disagree with this video. First free feeding your dog is not bad My doberman puppy was eating super fast and wanted more when i gave him food on a schedule but after i started free feeding he was eating fast at first because he didn't know that the food will always be there. But now he eats about 2 and half to three bowls which is pretty good for 7 month puppy who is about 55lb. Also dogs naturally eat bones if they went your pet so how can you say its bad for them. Its only bad for them if you never introduce the bone to them at a young age and when there older because they are not used to it they might choke or what ever. I agree that bones help them keep the teeth white and also clean it out when there is food stuck in their teeth. At 4 month I stared giving my dog left over bones from our food not chicken bones because those can be dangerous for puppies because its thin and sharp and puppies sometimes dont chew and just sallow. But any ways bones are not bad for dogs cow or goat bones are dense inside so dogs chew on it but never really brake and swallow the bone.

Wrong !! You should always have food out but the secret is never let it be empty so the dog doesn't think its there last meal ever. The reason people have overweight dogs is when you feed them a meal they think its their last meal so they scoff the lot especially if there is more than one dog.
