  • After riding across the Wheatbelt from Perth, I arrived at Wave Rock to tackle the 300km gravel road through the Great Western Woodlands that connects Hyden to Norseman in Western Australia. My big worry was did I have enough water to cross this long isolated stretch of road, and without phone signal would there be anyone to help if I got into trouble. Join me for what turned out to be a great adventure. Cheers Guy

Really enjoyed this video. After my first bike tour in UK & Europe last year and plans to return in 2024, I've been really bitten by the bike touring bug. I've travelled most of WA including Hyden-Norseman Rd by 4WD but after watching a couple of your video's, I'm feeling inspired to do it by bike. It would be an epic adventure as you have shown. Thanks for the inspiration 😊👍

Glad you enjoyed my videos, yes traveling by bicycle is much more rewarding than in a 4WD, much easier to notice everything at 10km/h and stop, plus the memories good or bad don’t fade quickly. Cheers Guy

3rd time round, matters not - huge congrats on completion - Super helpful as I'm travelling the same stretch of road - Perth to Melbourne this November, which is a trip planned from 2020 but was axed due to COVID. I suspect I'll also be singing.

Hi Anthony, glad you enjoyed the vid. I'm sure you'll really enjoy the experience, so much so that you too will be breaking into song... You can expect a warmer and drier crossing by November, passing grey nomads will be only too happy to supply you with water. Good luck with the Nullarbor crossing, I did it in 2016. Happy to help if you want further info, drop me a line at theconstantcyclist@gmail.com All the best, stay safe & good luck, cheers Guy

G’day mate, glad you enjoyed the vid. I really enjoyed the ride. I was probably lucky in a way that the road was closed due to rain, turned out to be a peaceful and relaxing experience. Good luck with your trip. Cheers Guy

You made it, despite closed roads and rain, well done. Great work on the video with the time lapse and drone, the singing wasn't too bad as well. Do you listen to music as you ride along and I assume you're using a go-pro

Thanks Randell, yeah apologises for the singing. Yes I do listen to music normally after about a week or so into the ride, once I've settled in and the roads are quieter, certainly helps pass the time and distracts from the endless corrugations. Yes a Gopro was my main camera, on this trip I fitted a sponge wind sleeve which helped cut out wind noise. Also shot quite a bit of footage both video and stills on my recently acquired Iphone 11. Cheers Guy
