      Silverhawk100 it’s. Been a very long time so nice I played 40k I still have my figures etc and I still love the lore I know that there have been updates etc so I am not 100% up to date but yeah I still check in the lore but I do recall in the old Codex that there was a human who simply stated that it is unknown why the tyranids are coming and that the question arises if they are not simply leaving their galaxy duo to a greater threat . But I find the idea of tyranids being the clean up weapon of the old ones but I would also be fine with them not being I just find the idea nice wether or not it’s canon is up to GW

      All we really really know for sure about the Tyranids is that the Hive was traveling between galaxies and was alerted to there being life in this galaxy when the Pharos beacon exploded during the Horus Heresy, so it changed direction. Everything else is hints and rumours....there's even some hints that the Tyranids are somehow related to The Silent King.
      I agree that it's the sort of thing that should be left mysterious. It's more interesting that way. Some things don't NEED to be fully explained, and work better when they're not.

    Given the fact that each species that the Old once created were increasingly more brutal and horrifying. Starting with the exceedingly noble eldar down to the raw brut but still somehow likable okrs, apexing in the Tyrranids which can´t be getting more nightmarish and terrifying. (In older editions they were even allys of Chaos. They are as demonic as the demons of the warp). I think the Old once are getting increasingly corrupted ether by bitter experience or may be even the warp it self. Since they were the first sentient beings the realm of souls must have spawned from their minds. Who is to say that turning the realm that they spawned in to the hellhole that it is today has no backslash on them? The old once that valued all life have fallen a log way. Once they maybe have been the only hope for the Galaxy and now in the end there is probably nothing left to say other than purge the xenos for the emperor!

      But you have to remember that the Tyranids also store all DNA they ever consume- meaning that once they have cleansed the galaxy of all life (and possibly destroyed the Necrons as the Norn Queens/ Hive mind either A sees them as a threat, B has been instructed by the Old ones to do so or C are actually under the control of the Old ones) this information and the planetloads of biomass the Nids themselves are made out of can be used to recreate countless worlds as paradise worlds. For a species so old as the Old ones, they are more patient than all other, even the Necron pale in comparison to these eternal creatures, so such a plan actually makes alot of sense.

    • @ervvmuller6020
      @ervvmuller6020 Před 6 lety +6

      You and your identity is not stored in your DNA. In the DNA is merely a plan for an organism. So if the Tyranids ate the hole Galaxy everything is lost forever. And yes ... maybe just maybe they don’t just move up to eat next Galaxy but actually recreate live. But you won’t be a part of it.
      Will you really be willing to get your selve and your family eaten alive handing your fate to the flood of claws and jaws in the naive hope of a recreation. Especially when no evidence ever has ben given that they will do such? Sounds like Cultist propaganda.

    • @silentlord85
      @silentlord85 Před 6 lety +10

      He's not talking about individuals but the species. I think what he means is, the current races; Humans, Eldar, Orks etc.... thier DNA is stored. once purged the Old Ones can come in and extract that DNA... and once again lay the building blocks of life on new worlds using the DNA. so extract Human DNA, find a planet, create a habitable world with the biomass, then insert the Human DNA and maybe in another couple million years time, Humanity as we know it will once again be whole. Pretty much like an extremely long reset button, which kinda fits in with the patience/eternal life of the Old Ones.

    In a way, all of this 40k lore reminds me of Halo's Lore. There's a similar advanced race called the Forerunners that had dominion over the Galaxy until they were threatened by the Flood, a biological species very similar to the Tyranids.
    After a long war, the Forerunners opted to create massive Rings as a superweapon to exterminate the Flood by exterminating all organic life in the galaxy (the Flood's food source).
    The Forerunners also used the DNA for the lifeforms that existed prior to restart life after the Flood were supposedly eradicated.
    Then, in the future, humanity colonized the stars, but were threatened with Civil War until they encountered the Covenant (who worshipped the Forerunners). Amidst this conflict remnants of the Flood returned.
    I think Warhammer, as a fictional universe, was established first, but it's not hard to see many parallels between the two.

    Question: I'm a really clumsy person, but on the other hand I wanna try playing 40k at least once before I die. I don't have any friends who are even remotely interested, but my local store has tons of guys playing (i'm just kinda scared to come near them until i'm ready) so If I buy the dolls, learn the rules, but won't paint, will my local game store accept me or probably not? Also, if I ask a friend to paint my dolls, will it count like a flaw in me as a player? Like is there a 40k culture thing where you don't let someone else paint your dolls or smth? Thanks a bunch!

      The only true thing that will make the community look at you weird is calling the pieces dolls, or showing up with completely unpainted or primed pieces. It's best to refer to them as models or miniatures. As for simply walking in and playing, most Warhammer players are always looking for new people to game with. It's honestly a very friendly community; I have yet to meet one player at my local shop who I didn't enjoy being around. There's also nothing inherently wrong with not painting your models yourself, since it can be very time-consuming and tedious for some.

It took the full might if the ctan entities that eat stars, have matter manipulation, are unkillable, masters of the physical universe, can create super massive black holes for the lols and can destroy hole sectors of a galaxy singlehandedly. One of them killed so many that it created the fear of death in all races, it's the Grimm reaper.

      The Old Ones at the height of their power would be OP as fuck
      but remember their race was driven to the brink of extinction with presumeably only a small amount of them managing to flee. Even though its been 60 million years since, who's to say what happened to their race following their exodus from the Milky Way. Much of their knowledge could and wisdom could have been lost and so if they were to return they would most likely not be as the Power Houses they were before the War in Heaven.
      I would personally love to see the Old Ones introduced as a new playable race. I am of the opinion that games like 40K are quick to stagnate creatively without new faction options being introduced. People will disagree with me on this matter, but the fact is 30k is the closest thing we have to a living evolving game, and it makes sense that new races SHOULD be introduced as playable factions, especially when you have a universe so expansive as 40k that has established that there are numerous other races out there. Its been 16 years since the Tau were released, before that the game had pretty much the same models and armies for however long the game was going for at that point. We're at a time where a similar thing is happening and its time for another entry into the options of playable races.
      Yes, costs have to be considered to from the companies stand point, but really, what was the last really exciting buzz in Warhammer 40k?
      I wish the Sisters of Battle would get updated figures and expanded models too but seems like thats never going to happen at this point.

  • @ShadowKueken
    @ShadowKueken Před 6 lety +33

    Tyranids arent the product of the old ones, they are at an absolute loss against necrons , there isnt even a point in creating them as a weapon against the necrons , also the tyranids were called in from another galaxy by other signals, im not sure which one but tyranids are galaxy sized predators, they hunt whole galaxies at once
    Also the tyranid hivemind is great against psyhers ... but psychers are the greatest weapon against the soulless necrons so thats also counterpreductive
    There arent any texts about the old ones other then the war in heavens and their demise ...

      @NickK1291 Před 6 lety +7

      It might still work. The Necrons can overcome almost any shortcoming with their technology. The only innate weakness they really have at this point is that there's a finite number of them, and they can't reproduce. Some Necrons are even looking for a suitable "host" race to download into to remedy this problem. The Tyranids basically cut off this option while eventually forcing the Necrons into drawn-out battle of attrition with the accumulated biomass of the entire galaxy... Seems like it could work.

    • @papanurgle8393
      @papanurgle8393 Před 6 lety

      Tyranids are in no way at an absolute loss VS necrons, acid based weapons are EXTREMELY effective VS the entirely metallic Necrons, not to mentions Nids have one of the single most effective psychic arsenals in the entire setting which would be tailor made to fuck up Necrons.
      Obviously there are no detailed texts, Old ones are MEANT to be the murky masterminds or mysteries makers of the 40K setting.
      However, the theory surrounding Old Ones and Nids being connected is actually a lot more credible if you do some digging. Of course this assumes any Old Ones survived which current lore seems to point they didn't, though it is left open as to whether or not they fled.
      On a personal note I'm very much on the fence with all this, and to a degree I "hate it" but it still has its merits.
      Honestly I always liked the idea that Nids were the one and only non-"native" residents of the Milky Way galaxy and thus add to their weird factor, but the Old One theory does hold water and shouldn't be completely written off.

    • @jamescpalmer
      @jamescpalmer Před 6 lety +10

      Apparently yes as the Chaos gods aren't infinite in what they can do, they're limited. So as they derive their energy from psychic beings in the Milky Way, it stands to reason that they don't posess infinite power, as there aren't an infinite number of beings in one galaxy. If the chaos gods were infinite beings, they could theoretically "do" anything, which they can't. So it stands to reason the chaos gods are only limited to the Milky Way galaxy.

      It is also stated that the warp is all over the universe, and since the chaos gods are the masters of the warp, then they should exist there.
      Tyranids have been said to have consumed dozens of galaxies, orks also are found in another galaxy, and they are both connected to the warp

    • @cainabel6356
      @cainabel6356 Před 6 lety +3

      There are multiple universes in Warhammer. So, the Chaos gods are not limited to our galaxy. You forget that before the Chaos Gods, there was just he Warp itself, stable. I am thinking that the warp expands across the universe and other multiple universe. The only thing is that the Chaos gods needs the emotions or souls to fuel their power. That is why when the Chaos Gods are up against Tyranids, their power usually dries up.
