You guys are drinking the koolaid. I speak from experience. The scope market is 100% a racket. I had a pinty $50 scope on my 50bmg for over 100 rounds and it never lost zero

On my 338 I blew up a Vortex 6-24 Crossfire ii (24 rounds the first time),sent it back and blew the fixed one in 6 rounds, and then mounted a $100 bushnell banner on it and it lasted around 100 rounds. I sold the gun and bought a Ruger American 338 Win Mag that I could put a muzzlebrake on. Some scopes, price of said scope doesn't seem to matter from my experience, are just tougher than others. Maybe the bad ones are made at 430 on a Friday of a 3 day weekend lol.

@@evettathompson9701 highly disagree. I shoot more than 99% of people and have scopes all over the spectrum. I have had $1000 scopes fog up on me while hunting. Inside of 300 yards, a $50 scope is just as good as any. Most people cannot afford all that and the supposed benefits are not worth the high price

I recently purchased a Mossberg Patriot in 338 Win Mag with a threaded barrel. I put a muzzle brake on it and I am shooting Hornady 200 gr. SST @ 3030 fps @ the muzzle. I shot it first without the brake and kicks like a mule. With the muzzle brake on, it kicks less than my Weatherby 300 Win Mag shooting 180 gr. SST. That muzzle brake is the way to go. Get you one, your shoulder will really appreciate it. Your bullet weight of 225 gr is going to amplify that kick severely. But I am also not trying to shoot @ 1000 yard targets. So, I get the bullet choice for the higher BC. But for that only.

I truly enjoy your videos! There is not an ounce of phoney about you! You love this stuff and it shows!
Showing the errors and real life setbacks during recording make it known to other viewers that problems are common in everything we do. Video editing gives the impression that everything works perfect. Not the real world. That is one of the things I find most refreshing about your recording style.
One of the things I like most about your videos is that we can plainly see how much you love this stuff! That tends to bring an uplifting atmosphere in your videos.
If you do not mind, can I give some of your viewers a small bit of information based on my experiences? You probably know this already, and I do not want to come off as a "know it all" as some do.
My intent is intended as respectful, and solely in the interest of making things easier for everyone who loves this stuff!

Anyways, keep making your videos and having fun with it! I sure enjoy watching them!

I can’t wait to see your .338 win mag video and which ammo choice you went with! I myself have tried three so far over the past few seasons in my Browning BAR and from best to worst when shooting was the Barnes Vor-tx, Federal Fusion, and the Remington Corelok rounds. The 225grain TTSX bullet from Barnes is a fantastically devastating round on bucks and the BAR reduces the recoil to something that feels similar to a 12ga or .30-06, nothing hard to handle about it to me. Then again I’m around 220lbs and 6ft tall so I think it’s a nice fit. Some people would say it’s overkill, I think it’s THE perfect cartridge choice to put em down with 4000ft lbs of energy at the muzzle and still over 3000ft lbs of energy past 200yds it absolutely slaps and claps their asses. The Fusion rounds put the deer down hard so no complaints there except they and the Corelok rounds had shitty tips that were prone to damage. The Corelok rounds were innacurrate by comparison, doesn’t surprise me Remington got sold off in pieces with what must have been the same quality control on those rounds since they came out on the market decades ago. Anyways the Barnes Vor-tx rounds were very accurate and the blue polymer tips stayed pristine even with handling and throwing them around somewhat. I definitely believe the tips made a big impact on the accuracy itself. With the Vor-tx rounds even with a vital shot to the lungs dumping all that energy they will sometimes still run off, I’m leaning towards scapula and neck shots now to shut em down hard right where they stand. I also got a matching BAR in .243 for does and coyotes that makes for a nice pair. And don’t get me wrong other calibers work on whitetail and other medium game, I love my .300blk guns and Texan LSS in .308 for deer hunting within 100yds. However something about deer hunting with a true medium sized rifle caliber, which the .338 win mag starts the beginning of, traditional gas or bolt action deer rifle and having the ability to stretch out at long distance and still make a ethical and lethal shot...well it just puts a big ol smile on my face. :) Good luck this season!!! I’m lookin forward to watching a huntin video made with you killin a nice buck with your .338win mag :) straight showin these other men what the BEST caliber choice is for any medium to extra large game on 4 legs for the lower 48 and AK. And there a majority of guides in AK that trust their lives with the .338 win mag regularly even over a .375, .45-70, or .44 mag carbine/rifle today. I’ll definitely be here for some more .338 win mag videos if you’re making more in the future! Just as 10mm is the best millimeter, the .338 WIN MAG is the WINning choice for your hunting rifle still in 2020. Period.

338WM I find is more controllable than the 300WM which seem to snap upwards off a bench giving vertically strung groups as a result. Dropped 2 feral hogs with one shot with the 225 grain Federal Powershock and the second pig in line was showered in bone fragments. Not a cartridge I would recommend until you have mastered shooting a 308,3006 or similar calibre as it can be intimidating! I run a 2.5x8 leupold on mine for the long eye relief-i would definitely get a weatherby eyebrow with that big boy you have mounted. 338WM sits somewhere between the 300WM,300WSM and the 375H&H. Closest calibre to it would be 325WSM which is another awesome cartridge. 250 grain Woodleigh PP are good in reloads from my experience but a 225 Barnes X driven hard would probably be the best all rounder at normal hunting ranges. If I had to pick a cartridge to take on every big game in the world and not have a gun bearer or chiropractor on the pay roll,338WM would my first pick.

I’ve shot prone with 338. Win and it kicks like a mule. With 250 grain. I’ve came to a conclusion 338. Kicks like a fast 375 h&h.
For sighting in I start at 25 yards because at 25 yards the bullet crosses over the cross hairs while going up and around 200 yards it crosses the cross hairs again on the drop. But overall good vid brother and a even cooler gun🤟

Weaver scope co published a scope sighting in procedure many years ago. Just sight it in at 25 yards and you are good to go.

Great caliber for big game. My dad loved his 338 in savage 110. Gave up to my young brother. For Christmas 🎄 one year. Hits like a dump truck on deer size game. Get sight in. Not cheep on ammo Remington green box was dads go to do to price or winchesters. Like add a 338 one day to my guns but I like get the new 338 federal or old in tryed 358 win

I shoot a 340 WBY out here for elk. It's more like a cannon. 200 fps faster than the 338 in all bullet weights. With that light gun in 338, I'm sure it punches the shit out of you! Good video

I believe I am going to check into buying a 338, after watching you shoot this one. I will admit, that I flinched with ya, when you were pulling the trigger using a 60.00 scope. With the shorter eye relief, I thought for sure the recoil was going drive the scope too far back and impact around your nose or eye. Ive done it myself. Had ring eye for a week, on a couple of occasions. haha. Theres definitely some power behind that gun for sure. Great video, looking forward to part 2.

I’m new to your videos, they are kind of interesting. I would never shame anyone for lacking money or materialistic items I can see your having fun and being safe and that’s all that matters! In my opinion, take it for what it’s worth, but I see a cheap rifle with a cheap optic which if it works then nothing else matters. I have some rifles that have cheaper optics on them but I try to always stick with companies that either 1 have been in the optic “game” for a long time with a good reputation or 2 look/feel quality with excellent credentials. Example Leupold scopes are a scope I consider top quality plus they have been around a long time, another scope I like is Vortex which hasn’t been around as long as Leupold but have good credentials and I’ve been using them without issues for a while. All I’m saying is if that’s what you can afford and your being safe and it works then good for you I would never shame someone for that!

Try your first shots at 25 yards get about 1/4 inch low and you should be good to go. I use that for starting point from 223 to 50 call muzzle loader and 12 gauge slugs

  • @johnganshow5536
    @johnganshow5536 Před 3 lety

I shot a mountain goat in southeast Alaska with a 338 win mag, overkill but I was in big bear country. I just bought a T/C Venture weathershield, the blade in the trigger was sticking and not popping back out for the next shot, also the safety was working sporadically, it would freeze up and not move at all. So it's at the gunsmiths getting fixed, hopefully..
