When you know about computer science, it really helps a lot. It says Binary, and 32 (2^5) exact moves, and there are 6 sides. My initial guess is that it will be similar to Binary Indexed Tree / Fenwick Tree. So it will be

Playing With Trains that’s what Mr Puzzle had to do, to finish it as it’s so hard. He put stickers on then re did it on camera.

I don't think the labels were cheating, but they probably gave you a HUGE advantage! I mean, there were zero rules against labels, so you just outsmarted the rule makers. I got hung up on the "binary" thing, thinking only 1's and 0's, but you got over that FAST! I caught on, but I never would have figured out your method on my own. THANK YOU!

Chris, you should make a puzzle arcade, where you have different puzzle run challenges, like solve this puzzle box to get this puzzle lock key, to unlock this puzzle lock, to get to the next puzzle box, etc

These types of puzzles are often referred to as Hakone puzzle boxes because they are usually made/sold there. Visited Hakone a few years ago and bought of few of these all with different steps needed to complete.

I loved it. I have see a lot a lot lot of your videos and this is by far my favourite and now I know the pattern too. And I have a challenge for you to make your own puzzle.
The sides would be more accurately labeled 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 (or their binary equivalents) due to the solution pattern. Very interesting/elegant solution!

Chris your a genius 90% of the puzzles you have attempted on this channel I would never figured out, and most likely would be ripping my hair out.
8:16 I think I understand the pattern now. In order to slide any side, preceding side must be open and only that side.
1-2 is easy. Then you close side 1 in order to open side 3.
In order to open side 4, you need to close side 2 first, and to do that you need to open side 1, then close 2 and 1.
Process for sides 5 and 6 will be just a longer version of this process then.
I wouldn't call it cheating, it was just a memory help
Lee Krasnow had a binary burr puzzle around 2004, seems like this is probably inspired by that.

Dude! It took me 1h 27MINS the first time and 22 seconds the second time 🤦♂️ but I didn’t think about binary… haha! Had to take a break after an hr and sleep on it. But it totally helped. Love the sticker idea!

Now, you *opened* the puzzle, but that's less than *half* of the puzzle! You also need to disassemble it completely by taking it apart piece by piece, and finally to put it all back. You need to track which sides are opposite of each other AND their orientation. Can you make another video to show this? It's almost a puzzle to grasp this bit from your video . . .
I thought I'd bring it up and hope you appreciate it. Remember, putting piece 6 back gave you an option? It's not trivial. Also, can the puzzle be assembled in only one way? Perhaps there are other, perhaps simpler ways to put the individual pieces together?

Someone with a computer science background would have discovered it just from the first 6 moves. However, the most intriguing thing is how the creator could come up with the analog mechanism that work with the binary sequential pattern. Guys at karakuri sure are amazing.

A quick little tip if you stumble across more complex binary puzzles in the future:
To help remembering the pattern you can use Gray-Code.
This is basically a sequence of binary states where only one element changes from one state to the next.
So assuming 0 is the default position and 1 is moved, the Gray-Code for this puzzle would look something like this:

This also shows that this puzzle is basically a really well-crafted twist on the chinese rings puzzle.

Dude I was following along and I got it pretty easily. I wrote down all the numbers on my arm, and followed the sequence pretty simply. I almost messed up at the end since I missed a one. I overall really liked this one, more strategy, less guess work. Another great vid, as usual.
