This was a really helpful video. Thank you for forwarning me that the nuts might be snug and hard to remove the first time. Your suggestion to attach my socket wrench into a longer piece of pipe for leverage did the trick. I appreciated your help.
Great. Extra leverage for the win. Glad I could help and that you got it unstuck.
Great job on the video!...I would have likely dropped the washers or nuts in the grass and spent more time finding them than replacing the blades! My lesson learned would be to do the blade switch on concrete or put a piece of cardboard down to catch my mistakes! Thanks for the info on torque specs!😄
Great EGO videos! Not too long, not to short. Very easy to follow.
Thank you!
Excellent video and I really appreciated the torque setting numbers
Thank you and glad I could help!
Most informative and straightforward video on this topic. Thanks
No problem. Thanks for the kind words.
Exactly what I was looking for...thank you!
No problem, glad I could help!
Excellent video and exactly what I needed to know including the torque info. Good Job!
Thank you and glad I could help!
Thank you! I had so much trouble figuring out what size sockets I needed before finding your video.
No problem, glad I could help!
This really helped. Thank you.🎉
No problem. Glad I could help. 👍🏻
I confidently changed out my blades but decided to check a video, glad I did! The torque setting numbers were unknown to me. Thanks!
Awesome, and no problem. Glad I could help!
Very helpful. Easy switch
Glad to help.
My manual says to use the opposite torque settings. Center shaft bolt = 22 ft-lbs. “Blade set nuts” =36-43 ft-lbs. Select Cut XP 21”.
Just double checked. My numbers are correct, but there is actually a typo in the manual. Look at step seven and eight. They put blade bolt under both settings accidentally
Thanks for info on difficulty removing that first bolt. Seems mine's not coming off without a breaker bar. I have the single blade version (push/single blade) and on inspection think if I can't get the bolt off I might almost be able to file the blade while on the mower if I can keep the file angle proper. There's a lot clearance and space above the blade on the mower.
Nice!! 👍
Thank you!
Great video, just subscribed.
Thanks and welcome!
I kept the stock blade on for the past (10) years. Aces Hardware sharpens the blade and I have a nice lawn. If you are not taking care of the lawn it does not matter which blades you use.
Very true.
Thanks for the torque specs. I couldn’t find them in the manual
Absolutely!
I encountered the problem you mentioned with the fan turning when I tried to tighten with a torque wrench. I tried inserting a screwdriver into the hole in the fan as you suggested but bent the screwdriver (it was a cheap one I guess). I ended up putting a 5 inch clamp around the fan so that the clamp screw intersected with the steel rod I inserted into the hole, that stopped the fan from turning and I was able to tighten it properly. As to whether I'll be able to get it back off next season, I guess we'll see 🙂
Good ingenuity. That's wild it bent your screwdriver.
Great video! The metric sockets seem to be a much better fit!
Thanks and I agree.
Thanks for the video. It is very helpful. Would you mind telling me what brand and size torque wrench that is? Do you like it? I need to get a torque wrench, but I don’t know anything about them.
I got mine at Harbor Freight. It is decent. There are definitely a lot nicer ones out there. Here's a decent one that's a good deal that I have shared before on my channel: amzn.to/3KLEiN3
After you remove them the first time i just now take the middle bolt out and hold the blades in my hand (or put them on counter) to undo the others. Easier on the back.
I have done it that way a few times as well. As long as you put a little pressure on the back of the bolts that works just fine.
I was having trouble with a lack of sufficient power to cut the grass even though the blades were turning (it just sounded "weak", tho it did cut somewhat better when pressing the buttons to power move). On a lark I took the blades off and found the fan had melted some in the middle. Any idea what might have caused that? I have another on order.
Wow, no, I've never heard of that one! Should definitely be covered under warranty I would think, though!
8:11 Thanks for the vid. When I snug up the center bolt, the shaft won’t spin. If I loosen it a little, the shaft turns but the blades don’t. Any suggestions? Thx
It's kind of torque sensitive. Have you used a torque wrench to tighten to proper torque?
Great video. This whole issue of taking the nuts off of the blade (not the shaft nut) piss me off. It's the first time I'm actually angry at ego because I still have to take two blade nuts off (which I'll need to buy some pipe for) and then buy a torque wrench. I'm starting to feel this mower is a bit more expensive than I counted on overall not to mention hassle. Other wise a great company but I'm not wild about the taste of sour grapes.
I hear ya on that. Taking the 3 nuts off is a pain but it's what makes the select cut (2 blades) possible. Its what holds it in place. So you could think of it that way.
@@fixitFlip not sure I get your reply to my comment. One of the nuts is defining under the pressure of trying to loosen it (I'm using the right sized socket and a pipe but more leverage isn't working so I'm spending about thirty bucks for new bolts and nuts). It's bad design or if there is lock tite on the bolts it's put planning. I probably will go back to gas mowers once this egomaniac lawn mower or it's batteries die.
@@JD-zh5nv Ok. I misinterpreted. Sounds like you are rounding the nuts? Not sure what "defining under pressure" means. An impact will do the trick if you can't get it.
I didnt get the select cut with two blades!! Will the two blade work on the ego that came with the single blade? Also what is the difference between the two?
If it only came with one blade then I would only use it with one blade. The motor won't be able to handle the two. It must not be a select cut model. The 2 blades will cut slightly better and select cut costs a little more.
The main nut has been a pain to get off. But will give it another go in a few weeks!
An impact should work. If you don't have one, a long breaker bar should do the trick. You can even add a pipe extension on it for extra leverage if you need to.
great video! i just changed my blades, now i notice the blades don't really spin freely, seems like a lot of resistance. any idea what that might be? thanks!
The definitely should be spinning freely. Is it possible you cross threaded the shaft bolt a little?
@@fixitFlip thanks for the reply! Not sure what it was, took the top panels off and spun the motor from the top. It was freed up so put it all back together and is working. Don’t know what it was but it’s working now.
Interesting. Well, glad you got it working right!@@chrish4723
To be abundantly clear: if i have a brand new out of box Ego mower and it has the upper blade and the gator blade factory installed, i do NOT absolutely have to touch the blade assembly before simply mowing my lawn, correct? The additional blades they ship with the thing (LM2135SP) are optional accessories?
You do not have to change anything. Those blades work best for mulching, but will work for bagging or side discharging as well. Those are the 2 I normally keep installed.
@@fixitFlip thx very much. Ego could be a lot more clear about all this in their various owner’s manuals if they wanted to be!! 🙄
@@brucemorris3830 Agreed.
Thanks !
No problem!
Nice video, thanks. I just got the set of blades and looking forward to testing out the high lift during the fall. I'm laughing bc mowing the grass is turning into golf will all the different "clubs" in my bag. I'm looking for a used ego on marketplace so I can have a bagging mower and a separate mulching mower. Thank you again!
That's a great analogy. The mulching blades are my approach wedge then because I use it all the time. That's a good idea to have a couple mowers ready to go lol.
I changed the blades and now they won't spin. The headlights work and the self propel feature works, but the blades don't spin. What did I do wrong?
Do you have the handles all the way extended out? That is a safety feature that will keep blades from spinning.
I got them off ok, but putting them back on it got to the point where the bolt started spinning but it wouldn’t tighten or loosen at all. Now my blade is stuck too loose to use, but I cannot tighten or loosen it and I don’t know what to do now 😭
Do you have the blades all the way flat against the surface behind them? And the washer in the correct position? It is also possible that you cross threaded the bolt when you put it back in.
@@fixitFlip yeah it’s not flat I’m also thinking it’s cross threaded.
@@Nebs1 Probably the case.
Good video but next time place the camera off the side a little to see better
Thanks
Noted.
Torque every time! Only get it donners crank it down.
We're on the same page.
My problem is when I tighten the middle bolt, the blades won’t spin and the engine won’t kick on. Too loose and they are coming undone
I know it sounds obvious, but is the handle all the way extended? That's a safety feature. It won't start if they are not all the way out.
@@fixitFlip if you are referring to the extension to make the lawn mower longer, yes I keep mine extended
One of the notes on here says you can leave the bolt out, and just have the outer two nuts tight. Which I might try
Leave the shaft bolt out?!@@MartinsChanny
If the nuts aren’t staying tightened, you might try applying some blue loctite on them to secure them
Overpriced Chinese garbage.
So you’re saying you love it?
