  • HILLARY / TENZING is a digital recreation of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s historic first ascent of the highest mountain on Earth, Mt. Everest, on May 29th, 1953. After decades of brave but unsuccessful attempts by expeditions from around the world, these two climbers, supported by a climbing team of 40 others and a supply team of nearly 400, were able to finally reach the highest point on Earth.

    Hillary’s and Tenzing’s legacies extend beyond climbing as well, as they founded philanthropic organizations that are dedicated to supporting the local Nepalese community. For more information on these organizations, please visit:

    ABOUT EX LIBRIS
    Ex Libris aims to recreate moments of history in an accurate and engaging format. By using virtual reality technology, viewers are fully immersed in these experiences, allowing them to truly “witness history."
    COMMITMENT TO ACCURACY
    We at Ex Libris pride ourselves on the extensive research conducted for each of our projects in order to make them as historically accurate as possible. By working with the leading experts in the relevant fields, consulting as many physical and online sources as are available (such as university research libraries and state archives), and sorting through thousands of reference images, we try our best to deliver as accurate a product as possible. However, conflicting sources and scant information are challenges that we inevitably face, as are the limited visual details for many historical events that either pre-date the widespread use of photography or are unfortunately lost to history. We are always looking to improve the historical accuracy of each of our experiences and are committed to making necessary changes in future versions if warranted.

    Tensing wore his attire from his 1952 climb with the Swiss. He knew it was superior to the British clothing.

    Different and kinda cool video, but one error at :30 "the world's tallest mountain." It's the world's highest, the tallest is Mauna Kea (Hawaii) and the highest point from the center the earth is Chimborazo in Ecuador.

    So, who climbed first: Hillary or Tenzing?

    • @ExLibrisXR
      @ExLibrisXR  Před 2 lety +2

      That's been a question since they first summited in '53. When we release our full Everest experience, we will also be showing this part of the climb as well.

      Hillary did, it was kept a secret for a while but eventually the team and Hillary himself admitted it was him, they kept quiet because to them it didn't matter, climbing the mountain was the goal not who was first.

      @Joe-sm7lm Před 2 lety

      @@jimmywrangles The fact is Hillary would probably not have managed to climb Everest alone. He needed a Sherpa (s) and that was Tenzing. So the question as to who was first up the summit is really academic.

      @@Joe-sm7lm Alone? The video specifically states there were 28 other Sherpa's helping them and 400 dudes carried their gear and food up the mount for them.

      @@TexasJack78 We're talking about who got to the top ... only the two of them did. I'm saying it's immaterial which got there first.

      Btw they could have made it. Surprised noone has ever found Irvine, I'm pretty sure it's not far from Mallory's body. Can't be far from it. The problem is that now China has closed all the access.
