I remember hearing Spike Jones for the first time in 1979. The song I first heard was "Der Feuhrer's Face". I had to go to the record store for his record. (remember records & record stores?) Very talented guy.

@user-sl2ko5ov1k : I first heard that song in 1986 when I was a teenager during the 80's . It was from an old Disney cartoon from World War II that made fun of Adolf Hitler. Sadly, by the time I first heard the song Spike Jones had already been dead for about 21 years. I would have enjoyed seeing him and his band either in person or maybe live on TV. But, still I can see and hear Spike Jones's music on old videos or recordings on CZcams.

Dad died at 81, 16 years ago. He didn't know he was loaded with cancer. Every day for the previous 10 or 15 years of his life, he'd get up, have a cup of coffee, walk out the front door and go about 20 miles up river (sometimes crossing the river, first!), eat lunch and catch a bus back home or, he'd take the bus up 20 miles, eat lunch and walk back home. When he died, some people couldn't believe he was even 61!! Still had almost no grey hair at all!! I inherited mom's hair so, I've been grey for the past few years.

Your Dad was relatively lucky in that he was mobile,
my knees and legs are buggered due to a back injury
caused by long hours operating heavy earthmoving
gear, so I spend my time answering, mocking and
lauding commenters here. And of course watching
Spike Jones, who has been a favourite since childhood.
My Dad too was extremely active, but died of cancer
      in 1956 aged 68.
I inherited nobodies hair, so am very sympathetic
      to billiard balls.
May you exceed your Dad's age, and enjoy every
      minute of it.

    • @RedVynil
      @RedVynil Před 2 lety

@@ivanolsen8596 Thank YOU!! I'll think of you very time I sink the 8-ball on the break! (I've already done it at least 6 times.)
Dad knew that the more you move around, the more mobile you'll be. (I had an uncle that spent his last 40 years sitting in the living room watching sports and movies ALL day, EVERY day and he could barely stand up by the time he was 70!! He died almost exactly 3 years ago at 82.) Dad had a LOT of back trouble in the `60's until his operation for it. Part of his problem was having one leg about 1/4" shorter than the other. That and spending all day at work (either in the truck or in the supply room) with a big fat wallet in one back pocket and another load of some sort in the other. I, kinda, used to do the same thing until about 35 years ago and started carrying my back pocket stuff in a small shoulder bag. That ended most of my back problems.
Most people in my family lived well into their 80's and 90's! My aunt died 2 months shy of her 100th b-day and I'm pretty sure she'd STILL be alive at 107, or better, if her damn kids hadn't forced her into a nursing home where she withered away in just 2 years! She was hardly 5' tall, I'm nearly 7' and, if we walked together, I could barely keep up with her!! That's when she was about 97!! And I walk FAST!! Even macular degeneration didn't slow her down!! And, my uncle was 93 when he died and was singing Italian operas to my mother in full voice a couple days before he died! He went in to have his pacemaker checked and got a staph infection that killed him!! His mother was 94 when she died. My other grandmother was 89. She slipped on some ice on her front porch and died 2 days before Christmas. After several strokes, she still got around quite well!! I didn't even know she had the strokes until after she died!!
I've had some HORRIFIC back trouble and, I'm here to tell ya, the more you move around, the better you'll get. One thing Spike and I have in common, we're both drummers and drumming helps with my back trouble. Especially having a 13-piece set!! All that swerving back & forth is good for your back! Being relaxed helps a LOT, too. Drumming does that.
I first heard of Spike in the very early `60's but had no idea ho he was. About 10 years later, I got his "Nutcracker Suite" but still had no idea who he was. Late `70's, dad got a 5 album set of old music from the `40's and one was all Spike. I think that's the first I'd ever heard of him. Now, I've got LOTS of Spike! Even stuff with his straight band and an album that's definitely him but it doesn't have his name on it anywhere! A couple Freddy Morgan albums, a few of Spike's Dixieland albums and at least one George Rock single, even a Tony Levin single where he does two popular songs from the `70's in perfect Spike Jones style!! I also have a couple by Spike's son but, they aren't quite as good as Spike's stuff.
I hope to be around for another 65 years. You, too!! I wish I could've found out about cancer cures BEFORE dad died rather BECAUSE he died. He'd be 97 in 2 months! It just never occurred to me to look for any before than!
      Here. You'll love these. czcams.com/video/-rN-IswNtl8/video.html
      czcams.com/video/6vGS0itFiW0/video.html
Tony does all the vocals and instruments. I'm not sure if that's him on tuba.
The first guy you see in this video is Tony. Another cueball!
      czcams.com/video/4SDt1TLUbzY/video.html
And, this is him doing all 4 parts of a barbershop quartet.
      czcams.com/video/EJGQ-mDgcL8/video.html
      Enjoy!! Live long and prosper!!

It was for some boring so-called christian rock night but, just before all that crap in one theater was Spike Jones Jr. and the original City Slikers. I never laughed so hard in my life! It was sad that hardly anybody was there. But, I couldn't get enough of them from that day on. Eventually found Dr. Demento not to long after that. My life has never been the same.
