Last week Silverstone welcomes Formula 1 for the first time on the 2021 season.
Unfortunately the race did not go as planned. The red flag was shown on the first lap after the incident between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton on the BritishGP.
Lewis hit Max's right rear as he entered the grove, leading Max Verstappen to crash with a massive 51g impact. 🤯

Those couple of seconds of silence after asking "Max are you okay?" are so scary. His moans after that are just horrific. This crash was an absolute nightmare but highlights the advancements of F1 safety. Those engineer did an awesome job!
The actual video of Daniel Ricciardo asking the Dutch reporters for word on Max shows just how concerned Daniel is for Max and there’s real horror on his face when he learns the impact was 51G
It's a little chilling to see that the first reaction of a driver and his team who just sent another driver in a massive crash can just talk about whether the car is okay or not for 20 seconds before even acknowledging that they could have just killed someone and whether he is healthy or not...

the `uh hes out of the car` was very unsettling. I do give Ham some credit for at least ask if Max is ok.

If I thought it wasn’t my fault I’d do the same thing. Why tf would I be worrying abt him when I have a race to win. Ppl get hurt it’s the sport I’m here to win mate. Saying that as a max fan, and a person who tore the room up when this happened. It’s a winners mentality and probs the only thing I like abt Hamilton

Toto and Mercedes as a whole didn't cover themselves in glory at all, sure there's blame with both drivers neither one is at full fault, but sometimes you just need to worry more about another drivers health than making excuses let alone sending an email to show how your driver was justified. It's actually worrying how they seemed more worried about the possible penalties than Max himself (due to Max's lead in the standings at the time), Lewis asked but the pit guy in his ear almost brushed it off as if the fact he got out the car means it was just minor. Anyone who saw the car after he got out knows how bad it could have been for Max
Afaik that email segment was from Abu Dhabi 2021, not Silverstone.

@KennyShrimptonPrinceNZ Yep. Bono here acted like human trash, sounding completely unconcerned and minimizing the violent nature of that crash just because Max had survived. Incidentally, most people who view wreckage like that - who did not see the driver get out of the car and walk away - would assume the driver had died. The car was MANGLED. As fans, we're all lucky that one of the great drivers of our time didn't die that day. Makes you wonder what drivers like Hubert or van't Hoff might have achieved someday.
When I seen that live my first thought was wow that’s a bad smash. Head on max is in a real mess. 51 g crash my goodness that shows how solid they cars are.
Na, this ain't alright. Toto sent an E-Mail for Masi to check on an incident, what was clearly Lewis's fault and didn't apologize for Hamilton who just celebrated after like nothing. My first thing I would have done is not to report any damage but ask if the driver is okay. Just like Leclerc! His first question is always if the driver who had a big crash is okay.
Lewis didn't care if Max was okay. He asked so he wouldn't look like an inhuman. He was primarily worried about himself and his race until he thought of asking about Max to make it seem like he was worried. Justice followed in Abu Dhabi. I am very thankful for that.

This was the moment Max decided to stop playing nice. There was no way he would let himself lose the title after this. The FIA did everything in their power to help Lewis manufacture the "equal on points" farce in Abu Dhabi, but anybody who was paying attention to that season knows that Max would have sealed the title before Brazil if FIA hadn't illegitimately intervened in Hamilton's favor a dozen times.
Fia did there best to help max on the last lap it was a co incidence that they had equal points and fia also gave Hamilton a grid penalty in Brazil so how tf they helped ham huh
@@Genshi54697 In Silversone - letting Lewis fully repair his car (which would have retired otherwise) under the red flag that HE HIMSELF caused.
In Monza - penalty Max was he was clearly alonside and Lewis turned into him
AD lap 1 - casually allowing Lewis to cut a corner
etc.
Lewis fan here but this was 100% Lewis's fault, however there is some context. In previous races Max had bullied Hamilton off the track and made it clear he wasn't giving way, Lewis made the decision that he would hold his ground. Any fan of F1 knew this was coming. Senna and Prost, Schumacher and Hill, Hamilton and Rosberg, three best drivers were ruthless with opponents, especially Schumacher who blatantly rammed opponents off the road twice. It isn't a gentleman's sport, each driver is selfish and greedy because that is the mentality required.

Max never did and would never send it to the inside like Lewis did here. Max does dive bombs, this was never even close to that.
@@Thunterise I suggest you do a balanced investigation into how many crashes and incidents involved Max, prior to the 2022 season where he didn't need to take risks. The worst for me was Monza where mounted Lewis's car after attempting an overtake at turn 1, no way was there ever any room for two cars in that chicane but Max tried to bend the laws of physics. Whatabout Brazil that same year, twice blatantly running Lewis off the track. You can be a fan and still be reasonable, don't be that fan

The reaction of Peter Bonnington irritates me to this day, the tone and the disinterest, then that ridiculous email suggestion by toto, thankgod Massi told him off…… lets be honest, this was a life threatening move by Hamilton, no to be compared with the Monza one which was in first gear (reliant robin cornering speed), Silverstone was a reckless and intentional 51 G horrorcrash.
If wasn't for the halo, rear right wheel from Max car would be at Hamiltons head. That could easily kill a man too, putting almost 800kg on your neck. So yea, both crashes could kill one.
Hey man, they are racing after all , and they all know the risks involved. Death is one of them, but, the goal is to make safer every year, so that the guy tomorrow can walk off like Max did. And im not in defense of Hamilton here, but theres a lot going on in a Driver mind while racing specially for championship.
Im pretty sure Max and his engineer would've done the same thing (if not worse) if it was the other way around.

Lewis's fault 100%. ...but...Max was ok, he was going to be okay, Lewis asked if he was fine, Max was in the hospital beacuse of PROTOCOL not beacuse of deadly injuries. He would have celebrate the same way if this have happend in the opposite way in Zandvoort.
Doesn’t matter if he wasn’t injured. He could have died and all Lewis cared about in the moment is his own race. Just because he was ok doesn’t take away Lewis’ fault. The video showed 25 seconds before he bothered to ask about his safety. If Lewis went to hospital and Max celebrated the way Hamilton did you would not be saying the same thing

I stopped watching F1 in 94 when senna died, I could not process it at the time, I was very young. After hearing from my friends that there was this new kid making waves, Max verstappen I started watching again and feeling the same joy I did when watching senna drive.
I remember watching the silverstone GP and as soon as I saw verstappen hit the barriers I turned f1tv off. It could be an overreaction maybe but the first thing that crossed my mind was that horrible accident at imola. Also I didn't watch any other race from 2021 untill by chance I tuned in the last laps of the abu dhabi gp just in time to see him take his first title. Of course after that I had to watch the other races :')
