Anyone else been recently getting a lot of Xena clips in the recommendations lol?
I know I will soon enough!
Is it reboot time?! I hope sooooooo
I am, but I love this show anyone. I used to tape in on VHS and the re-watch the eps.
They started today. Wierd right
If you keep clicking on Xena clips they will keep adding more to your recommendations. Same for any topic. They put a bunch of random things in your recommendations and anything you click on is what they keep adding. That is how the algorithm works.
The woman who played Callisto was kind of brilliant. I still felt bad watching her die like that. She was almost child like.
so it is! russia remember her s (так и есть Россия ее тоже помнит)
She "died" many times throughout the series. All different ways.
Only because she died without Xena. She didn't afraid of death.
She was. A part of me didn't want Callisto to turn good because the way Hudson Leick played that mix of vengeance, childlikeness, raw pain, and focused hatred was truly brilliant
She voiced Jen the protagonist in the video game Primal and did an amazing job too.
Holy shit I forgot how intense this scene was. Callisto's actress nailed it.
"I won't kill you...but I don't have to save you."
NICE
It's pretty much the same
I saw this as a kid and it really shocked me because obviously Xena was "the good guy" so I was expecting her to save Callisto. But looking back as an adult it's a wicked character moment for her. I love that she doesn't look away as Callisto goes under. Like everything else she doesn't shy away from something she's done that's terrible.
She really doesn’t. Unlike Hercules, Xena will kill even for the greater good.
People forget Xena's past as an evil warlord... Also, Callisto also tried to kill her woman (I mean Gabrielle) twice, and that pretty much sealed the deal.
Apparently, in the original scene that they shot Xena does save Callisto. But later they changed their minds and re-edited the scene. They thought the following episode where they switch their bodies would work better that way. I think it was a good choice.
@@ConsciousEntrepeneur 😂😂
If I was given a choice in that situation. After all she did to the world and me helping to prevent more of her chaos.
I could’ve and would’ve saved her.
This was after Xena already spared Callisto the first time out of guilt.
Exactly! Callisto had been given a chance to be a decent person.
In this episode, Callisto also killed Perdicas, Gabrielle's newlywed husband. For Xena, you could also say that was the last straw.
The moment when Xena realized she cannot changed or fixed a monster she created.
How was Callisto resurrected after this? Was she in Tartarus? Hades helped her?
@@TheKonnoisseur11 Ares helped her
"Oh you're GOOD, Xena!" Lol
Yes, this is definitely one of the more intense scenes. .
Xena looks at Callisto and thinks: No Gabrielle is good. I'm not
Sean Aries please where are you living
Please can I have your number
Please I want to come to your country
@@roxannpoor8770 Lol Right? Haha
Xena is probably thinking "You've destroyed my best friend's life ontop of everything else. . Can't do it."
This scene is very disturbing, to here her screams for help while also dying in the process, this is one of the reasons why Xena was so different from Hercules, the dark themes of the show.
I feel like if Batman was more like this Joker would not have escaped as many times as he had and killed many innocent people just because it amused him. Like they said said in Batman movie some people just want to watch the world burn and Callisto was one of them.
I always thought Xena was kind of like Batman. Minus the code of not killing.
She sounds like she actually expected Xena would save her
@@chadbaker3117 she was afraid of death but was happy when they landed in the quicksand as she though Xena would die as well her laughter soon turned to fear as she realised Xena was safe she had one last attempt to beg for her life
I can actually feel Callisto's sadness when she laughed at first while in the quicksand. She's a tortured soul.
She laughed because she thought Xena was going to die as well her laughter soon turned to fear and panic when she saw Xena was safe from the quicksand and she found herself sinking
I remember.. We used to watch this when I was a child.. Me and my father.. He used to smile when we watch this.. Papa I know your in heaven right now.. Hope you are watching this together with me right now.. 😭😭😭😭😭😭
He's with you. You can feel him, can't you? I know I can, lost my Dad in 2014 to Parkinson's. But I still feel him with me a lot. Especially when I see an eye doctor, as he was an Opthamologist, and sometimes I can feel him so strongly, and being the kind of guy he was, I know he's there to make sure everything is done right! And I see another eye doctor at the same clinic my Dad worked at, they all loved Dad, and this doctor even uses some of my Dad's old equipment on me! And when I get a tattoo, I can feel him rolling his eyes. You'd think someone who was in the Navy would be a little less negative on tattoos, LOL!!! ;)
But seriously....That kind of Love stays with you. Always. (And for some reason I'm getting a strong prodding to say "Pink." Dunno why. Well, maybe I do.)
R.I.P
i looked with my dad series like this too! enterprise, the lost world, hercules, the last stuntman - he loved series like this a lot too. funy, fantastic, action... i lost my dad too and your words reminds me on our time together as well. so long ago, quiet surreal and sad. i remember, how sad he was, when he told me about the lost from his dad and he lived much more years without him then with him. he and i were both the same age, as we lost our dads. i wish you all the best! much greetings from germany!
I watched these things with my father too. He left three years ago. Sending you courage and love dear heart ❤️
I think our loved ones are with us always 🤗❤️ I hope so
One of the best filmed scenes in the series. Still holds up so well even today!
I agree
I USED to think so back then but it looks so FAKE Now
@@Eazy-ERyder No it still holds up great
If this had been a better, not such a looney show,Callisto could ve had her own spin off show, she was beyond gorgeous. RIP Callisto.
That was payback for Perdicus
I agree
Yep, nobody hurts Gabrielle w/o answering to Xena
Xena was thinking "good riddance to bad rubbish".
Yes I love her line to Callisto “always the optimist” as if to say no you will die here not me, notice Callisto is soon scared and begs for her life
Thanks to Syfy, I've been rewatching my favorite childhood show and have a new found appreciation for Callisto's character. I've actually always liked her character and how much thought and preparation went into placing her in episodes further into the show. As a adult, I'm falling in love all over again with this show.
Trust me Callisto would stab her even if Xena does save her. She comes back anyway.
Lame
ALWAYS the optimist lol
Callisto had no mercy for all the people she killed, So why would Xena show her any mercy at all? After all she was worse then Xena ever was.
I agree 👍
They could've been such good friends or better yet a couple.
Xena saved Callisto in her first episode and paid the price, she wasn't going to make the same mistake.
Callisto wasn't worse.
This was the very first Xena episode I ever saw and was hooked ever since 😄 I kept watching week after week hoping for Callisto's return. Luckily she returned many many times 😄
God I remember thinking Xena was so cruel for letting her die like that. But the fact is, Callisto killed Gabrielles husband. Just for spite. This was xena’s way of saying screw you!
She also made Callisto the way she is
Yes I can understand Callisto’s point of view. Wanting revenge on xena. However in the end, Callisto chose to go down that path herself.
Xena already showed Callisto mercy and Callisto threw it in her face. Xena had the same from Hercules after she sought revenge for the death of her family by killing everthing but the difference was she took the opportunity to change. Given how much destruction Callisto was causing everyone else then it was better that she die. There's wanting revenge and then there is going insane and causing everyone else to suffer. Thing is you see the difference when they are in the quicksand. Callisto is panicking and wild and resigned to her fate. Xena is determined to fight and change
MsJubjubbird : I think what Xena realized is that Callisto was basically insalvageable. She’s definitely mentally disturbed and truly doesn’t care if she lives or dies. She was fine with dying as long as she was satisfied Xena died, too. Once Xena freed herself, Callisto still has something to live for.
Xena basically had to choose which lives to save and she couldn’t save Callisto. I interpret her not rescuing Callisto both as an admission of guilt but also resignation. Xena isn’t a great thinker or philosopher. She’s a warrior/soldier of fortune and, until recently, a violent criminal and thug. She has given up. She recognized that she destroyed Callisto and that Callisto can’t be saved.
What Xena did to Callisto was awful. Callisto deserved to torture XENA, but no one else. She crossed the line by killing innocent people including Perdicus. Callisto became exactly what she hated.
I love Callisto's screams!
Hudson Leick was so beautiful.
You can hear in Callisto's voice that she would have screwed Xena over if she saved her.
If you look close you can see her trying to reach out and grab Xena, she is also trying to trick her by speaking to her while she sinks but clearly under estimated Xena here as always
Right. I'm surprised so many people in the comments fell for this
Xena killed Callisto's parents, now Callisto is dead, but is it really the end of Callisto's need for revenge? Will Xena finally find peace for her past actions...
Xena got blamed, but when Callisto achieved godhood and went back in time,Callisto kiiled her own parents while her younger self watched in horror as it happened.
Found out next time on an all new episode of DRAGON BALL Z
tcroshon70 that was for trying to interfere with the past wasn’t it? I mean I think they undid the time traveling so I’m assuming it restores everything as it should be.
God, this show was so ahead of its time. I would love to watch a remake, watching young Xena becoming the destroyer of nations.
No thank you, no need for any remake, unless of course the original characters were the main characters.
Pinnacle Artwork that would be my first option too, but I don’t think that’s gonna happen.
In 2019 it would turn into some cringy feminist's shit just like New Charmed, unfortunately
@@pinnacleartwork2679 having the original cast back would be ass. They are old.
Wasn't ahead of it's time but it was good at best.
I do think the writers made a mistake killing Callisto in her first episode. The problem was that it began the trend of Callisto getting unnecessary upgrades with each subsequent appearance. Callisto was at her best as Xena's dark reflection, a living consequence of Xena's past misdeeds. Most importantly though, as Xena's equal.
Instead the writer's felt the need to keep upping the ante with Callisto, going from human to immortal to Goddess to Demon to Angel... When all the time, the very best Callisto was the one that we'd met in this episode.
That and made any scene of her dying not as tragic cause she could easily just come back again and again. But unfortunately they didn't know she would be super popular which lead to her being brought back In later episodes when they couldn't think of anything new.
She didn’t die in her first appearance though.
She dies in her second
Finally someone is as crazy as Xena
Wasn’t there an unused ending where Xena actually tried to save Callisto but still failed? I think they filmed it at least cause I remember seeing production stills.
Everybody talk about being traumatised as a kid by this scene. I wasn't.
Calisto chose her path, was evil and killed for shiggles. Bitch needed to go.
Still one of the best (I don't care how cheesy this show was at times) cheddar filled villain that was so interesting to watch. Good times, man...
S.A. Harris lol 😂 your comment got me in real tears 😭.. facts tho this shit was lit as a little kid
Ppl are just diff now. Its not cheesy. Its more heart felt. Ppl now are a lot more pragmatic and heartless is all
You are a psycho dude.
Yep this definitely traumatizing me as a child
@@Leon5495 It actually is cheesy af xD
I didn't feel bad for Callisto but I was disturbed by how she died. Being buried alive and suffocated creeps me out.
Yeah but for her it was fitting if short lived👿🔥
@Isaac Ortiz plus she came back later in the series! Can't keep a good villain down🔥
Did xena say, always the optimist.
Yes
Gotta give Credit to the Stunt woman doing the scene with the Whip
That was a stunt woman?
Still watching in 2024!!!❤ Xena is my forever crush❤
Xena is so badass in this scene that Chakram trick.! YES!
This scene was edited and rewritten due to Lucy’s horse accident. Xena originally tried to save Callisto at the last second but was too late. This video cuts off the very end of the scene where you can slightly see Xena’s whip extended to help her.
I read that they just thought Xena's guilt would be more justified in the following episode featuring Callisto if she let her die here. I don't think this particular scene was changed because of Lucy's accident. Callisto's actress did end up playing Xena for an extra episode because of that though.
I love the chariot races in xena and when callisto wanted xena to save her that was a powerful scene to watch xx
Callisto has the same vibe as Azula in The Last Airbender cartoon.
It's a kids show but at times it's pretty dark lol
the nastolgic memories of watching this with my mother as a young girl. i loved this show. Callisto was one of the best memories of the show.
I love this scene at the end even though it’s short, notice how Callisto mocks Xena then praises her then begs for her life all in a matter of moments while Xena remains claim the whole time
What Xena did here was dark, but what Callisto was doing was even darker. Xena saw it, and passed it.
A quandary, no doubt. A quandary that followed Xena throughout...
Recorded this show on vhs. Watched it at least a dozen times lol. Good memories.
No show would dare to push these character hero limits like this. It is always the hero trying to save the villain last minute or the villain would rather die than be saved. Here we have the hero just letting the villain die. No show now would ever do this. Xena is incredible. I love that she struggles later on with this decision to. This show is so deep.
No, not always
There are definitely still brutal heroes who blur, or even outright cross the line.
@@1000000man1I honestly have never seen a hero just sit and watch the villain die with zero moves to try to save them. There is always some effort or even some quick move in a fight to kill them but really not wanting to. This was a choice.
@@ericprentice3032
Doctor Who did that very thing at least once. Batman has done it.
Xena(to Callisto): "always the optimist." Translation: "You're insane."
Enjoy your trip to Tartarus my dear.
Oh, my Callisto. And my Xena❤️🔥
This is one of my favorite episodes of My Xena... Hihi 🤩😍
Huge xena fan loved this episode 🤗
Well, let's be honest....it's not like she didn't deserve it
I agree she did
I loved this sound track!
Fantastic music in this series.
Xena knew callisto couldn't be saved, but also wanted her to die for what she did to Gabrielle. Xena could've killed Callisto, but not choosing to saving her doesn't make her a murderer.
This scene is Super Deep and Disturbing for me I cried at the end when Xena allow her to die like that. It was very real detailed and terrifying to watch when I was a child after 9 a.m. on Channel 11 and now seeing it again disturbs me even more I just can't believe that I watch that when I was a kid but I love this TV series tho.
Memories I watched this episode when it aired and my goodness it was a thrill
20 years since it's ended. I miss my childhood
I love Callisto. Still my favirite over anyone. I loved her delight in her evil. Lol. I don't know why at such a young age I loved her and her wickedness. As an adult, with all the LGBTQ subtext, I totally get it.
That all being said, I cried when I watched this. The idea of my favorite being killed off. (Not knowing she'd return later on). I always thought, like Batman, Xena would stay true to her code. My mom helped me understand and future episodes, why Callisto had to die. Callisto had been locked up, already killed Gabrielle's husband, kidnapped her and used Joxer as a ploy. Callisto's vengeance outweighs her ability to see the error in her ways. She knew it. She could only feel her pain and nothing else. Xena knew it too. Callisto had to die or she'd always be a threat and she was. Not until later on do they go deeper into that and the sadomasochism of their relationship. Callisto is Xena's Joker. There is a Stockholm syndrome type dynamic here. Callisto needs Xena to justify her living. Twisted take on survivors remorse. I could go on but that's the brilliance to these characters. I'll stop rambling now.
Nothing against Callisto or Xena but I've always had more of a crush on Gabrielle back then, in my mind I used to fantasize about us being married with an army of kids, I was literally in love with her ❤️ lol
@@skynetprime82 Gabrielle is more who I am now. She always sought peace before violence. The episode she is crowned Amazon queen, Valesca states this as weakness. There's an episode it wedges a divide between her and Xena when they help a village being attacked by natives. Xena uses her war tactics and Gabrielle's helping all the sickly, including those of the other side. I now admire her compassion in a way as a kid I did not.
@@jojodunn835 it was funny how she played valesca by her thinking that she was gonna give her the Amazon mask and then she was like "nope it's my mask bitch, I'm the queen now" lol
I actually think Callisto was in the right. Her grievance against Xena was justified. You can’t go around doing serious, lasting harm to people and not expect it to come back to you later. There was simply no way Xena could make the wrongs right and, really, she didn’t even try. Sparing an enemy’s life because you know you’re responsible for what they’ve become isn’t amends.
@@amasion2882 Your post reminds me of Kill Bill, as it should Quentin wrote a lot of it because of this show and the dynamic between Xena and Callisto. Also, a part of why Zoe Bell was cast. I'm sure you know this, I digress, sorry. I say that to say this; "revenge is a dish best served cold". A generic cliche but when used in Kill Bill, it's much like your post. Xena killed villages. Not just people. She targeted classes of people. As earnest as she was in her quest for redemption, there's some wrongs she could never amend. You're very right. Callisto wasn't without reasoning.
At this point, Callisto was evil; so I can understand Xena allowing her to die. But Callisto’s death should’ve been in battle.
I agree with you
It was in a battle
It was a battle xena won
The ending 😲😳
I loved that blonde woman growing up and Xena’s redhead friend lol
The one and only time someone made a smart move.
I remember this scene like it was yesterday.
Sorry but team Xena; Callisto was too unstable and dedicated to being evil at this point for anyone to save her.
03:45 Callisto being nice for the first time in her life too bad it was too late for her 😂
Seeing what she did to Gabrielle, killing Perdicus and everything else she's done so far, that was the moment Xena was like "sorry, but you went too far this time" for me, that's the moment Xena couldn't just stand it anymore, it's highly simbolic and disturbing of course, she literally just watched her dying and didn't help her, it's brilliant too.
You really have to give credit to the stunt crew on this show.
Xena (to Callisto): "Always the optimist." Translation: "You're insane...even when facing death."
Callisto laughter soon turned to fear at 3:26 when she realised Xenia was safe and it would be her that would die instead, she was only happy that Xenia would die but she was definitely insane
Callisto was a cold blooded killer, out of control....Xena had to lol
I agree. Callisto. Yes her family were murdered but that excuse does not justify her evil actions.
@@LBF522 😀
@@LBF522 Exactly. Callisto was so consumed with rage and her desire for vengeance upon Xena that she attacked villages and harmed innocent people. She became the very thing she hated and wanted to destroy.
Calisto what a beautifull lady. Love her face😍😍😍 most gorgeous woman in the world
How could Xena let her die? At least she said "please".
xena warriors princess is so amazing callisto is so amazing
Big difference between Xenia and Hercules. He will always save his enemies.
she did not even let her have a warrior's death. awesome.
Didn't deserve one.
callisto. my generations harley quin lol
A whole myriad of complex meanings and emotions are playing out at the climax of this scene.
Throughout the episode, Xena was wrestling with the internal struggle of losing Gabrielle to her new husband, thus taking away the reason for her redemption---in her eyes. She tried her best to be happy for her best friend. I mean, after all, now she would not be in constant daily danger and having to go through the horrors and turmoil that Xena faces.
But then Callisto returns, and with her she brings death and destruction as usual, and slays Perticus. This event has changed Gabrielle. Xena is horrified to see the beginning signs of what turned HER into a monster. Amphipolos was attacked, and those events made Xena into a warlord.
Gabrielle, quite literally, snuck away and tried to murder Callisto in her sleep but ultimately couldn't do it. This weakness got her captured and almost burned alive.
To sum it up, Callisto is a thorn---an infection in Xena that will not go away unless it is cut off.
Then we come to this, they are both stuck in quicksand. Xena's smart thinking and luck of the whip, gets her out. But now she is faced with a choice. Do I save the raving lunatic that has, verbatum, told her that she will not rest until she has taken everything of value from Xena, including her horse, friend and home. "
Do I save her? What if I save her, and she just turns around and escapes or tries to kill me right in that moment? If she escapes, Gabrielle will only try to hunt her down and get herself killed. That need for vengeance will never die in her. My best friend is gone and will never come back as long as Callisto lives."
The other choice is heartbreakingly easy to make. Let the Earth take her. As skilled as Callisto is with a blade, she is at the mercy of Mother Nature at this point and there's no beating that. As unlikeable and dishonorable as it is, Xena allowed her to die to save Gabrielle from a life of hatred and vitriol. But with this, comes her own internal conflict. There was no honor in this. With Callisto's heinous actions comes with a level of respect she has for her dedication. "A Warrior should die with their boots on..." as Ares puts it.
The guilt that Xena feels in the upcoming episodes proves that she would have loved nothing more then to rush in and save this young girl who she created. She is eternally sorry for destroying her life the way she did but she can't undo the past.
The rest is history.
This may have been the beginning of us being afraid of quicksand when we'll probably never come across it lol
Santo Dios.que mujer más Bella.
Genesis "Though she will mess up your life, you want her just the same"
That's how I feel about Callisto.
Oh man I was 11 when I saw this. And I remember how guilty I felt afterwards I genuinely felt bad for Callisto and the guilt ate me up too seeing Xena stomach that death slowly was awful her mouth looks like she’s about to barf. She’s tough love Xena man she made me convey so much emotion
The actress who played Callisto was really good but was only ever in this and an Arnold Schwarzennegar movie from what I saw.
She was on Buffy and guest starred in some other TV shows, too.
Yeah, I saw her on CSI once. None of the actresses from the show had anything major going on for themselves after this. Lucy played in Spartacus etc. which were produced by her husband and had very Xena-like roles in Battlestar Galactica and The X-Files. But that's understandable, iconic roles tend to typecast actors and especially women in their 30's are damaged goods in show business.
Xenon Doro That’s not really true. Shiri Appleby, Rose McIver, and Gina Torres are just a few I can think of who had successful projects after Xena. Selma Blair can even be technically included. And it’s not always about being typecast. Sometimes, the actor may want to do different things. Hudson Leick appears to be happy as a yoga instructor just like Renee O’Connor is doing work behind the scenes as a director.
Stevie B She wasn’t on Buffy.
She's been in other things. Nothing major, though. Mostly direct-to-video B-movies and television films, as well as guest spots on other shows like CSI, Law & Order, 7th Heaven, and Nip/Tuck. She did a couple video game voice-over roles too. But yeah, she's pretty much exclusively known for Callisto. It's by far her biggest role to date.
She was never in a Schwarzenegger movie, though. You must have mistook another actress for her.
Love Callisto she my favourite after Xena of course ♥️
Man this beach was long
Nice
Batman should learn fron Xena, but I guess he is too addicted to the Joker to let him go😅
I can't believe I can remember this.

Xenas in quicksand oh no
This scene tramautized me when I watched it as a kid.
Are you still traumatized ?
@@iboline4606 Yup, but this scene pales in comparison to later Xena episodes. The other traumatizing episodes for me include Xena killing off the northern Amazons by impaling them all them on tree branches and the worst one of all was the cannibal episode. I couldn't eat meat for weeks and stopped watching Xena. Xena was definitely not an appropriate show for children to watch, contrary to popular belief.
@@k10nn10th lol or you weren't strong enough. I remember playing a computer game Mortal Kombat... seeing fatalities they always got me when I kept watching it and kinda spooked me out, but after some time I really had fun and loved to do fatalities... and I played other games where there is violence as well. So my mind was already stronger before xena series arrived in my country. Watching them in 1996 on TV was a blast and now I love it even more. Not everyone can handle stuff.. I got stronger mind by gaming and it makes a difference
Holy crap! Same here Mortal Kombat on the arcades it wouldn’t say traumatize me it would traumatize my father who witnessed Mileena stabbing Kitana to death as a finisher on MK2 and then on MK3 he witnessed Motaro walking up to a fighter and ripping his head off. He had night terrors about that haha yet I became desensitized. Meanwhile, this scene I was like OMG Xena let her die. And I was legit shocked. The Hope episodes kind of did it for me as I was only like 8 or 9 watching these and seeing them summon I guess the devil was enough for me to get night terrors too. Same with some of the Hercules episodes when they would get evil AF. Damn! I remember Callisto burned her own mother that freaked me out! It was embarrassing to have my parents tell me no more TV! But yeah I had to stop watching Hercules and Xena
@@capcom23 Everyone is on their own path at their own pace, i was traumatized by things I shouldn't have been allowed to watch as a kindergartner...I remember as a kid sympathizing with Jack Nicholson's Joker over Batman....now I see it in a different light. There is a review from Ebert & Siskel on youtube about it, Siskel gave it a thumbs up, Ebert gave it a thumbs down because of the "extremely disturbing" themes, not exactly a kid's movie you know? Don't even get me started on the original Evil Dead, also directed by Sam Raimi. That still scares me now, even scarier is how I survived childhood trauma without winding up in a mental ward or prison. On the positive side, we are all learning and growing.......be careful who you step on, on your way up the ladder, you might meet them back on the way down. I think children should be allowed to maintain their innocence as long as possible, let them be kids for crying out loud....don't rush them into adulthood before they have a chance to adapt to the new realities. Slow, gradual change, like the tortoise and the hare you know?
If I was Callisto, I would have been pissed. Knowing I failed to take Xena out and her watching me die. Anyway this was very personal between these two. If anyone ever caught the early story arc of Xena she was a warlord. I could understand Callisto hatred of her.
Callisto was trying to mock xena at first when they both fell in but she then soon turned to fear and begging for her life when she saw xena had escaped and she knew it was over for her
