All confrontation goes away when Puti orders his troops to go home to their families and out of Ukraine. Its that simple. Russia miraculously then is under no threat whatsoever. There is not a single country that has a wish to invade Russia.

Don't be naive the whole thing is about the destruction of the Russian Federation so Russia can be broken up into small parts where they can be easily manipulated. @chrisviking7807 That's why they drove NATO up to Russia's doorstep right? The United States and UK went halfway around the world to wreck Iraq with less justification than Putin had, then killed a million Iraqis. If China built a string of military bases on Mexican territory, even with the invitation of Mexico, the US would not sit by an allow that to happen.

Putin has played his "escalation " card which Orban so dutifully parrots. He should be expelled or suspended from these international organisations as Hungary is nothing more than Russia's tool for driving a wedge between countries who would unite to uphold the foundational values of those organisations.
It was interesting to note that there was a large demonstration in Hungary recently against Orban while in Turkiye Erdogan's party lost in many local elections.
This is an existential battle and the threat of escalation is redundant.

It is sad that it should have been obvious from the start that this was an existential war where either Ukrainian State or the russian regime will be gone by the end of it. I am still deeply saddened by the lack of commitment of Western governments. The latest British Governments budget, which showed contempt towards treating the threat we all face seriously, with it's 'wait until the economy allows' excuse before increasing Defense spending.

The NHS is falling apart. Brits aren't tossing and turning at night worried about Putin crossing the Dnieper, they're worried about their tuition payments, food, rent and healthcare. Those are real existential emergencies for increasing numbers of people in the West, not another failed geostrategic blunder, just add it to the long list of military interventionist disasters dating back to Korea and get ready for their next debacle, it's looking like Taiwan.

NATO CAUSED this extended war. In April 2022 U and R had nearly completed a mutual settlement of this REGIONAL conflict, Then NATO (Boris) intruded and told puppet Pres Z to walk away from the settlement (2 more meetings to go), and the war was on.
Ironically, part of the aborted settlement was Russia's agreeing to return ALL Russian forces back to Russia in exchange for certain assurances by the Ukraine (neo-Natiz) gov.
Everything would have been settled in about two months.
USA and Britain have an irrational hatred for all things Russian.
Why did the EU refuse membership to Russia when Russia was interested in joining the EU for better commerce???
Why did NATO (USA+) NOT honor the 2014 Minsk Cease Fire Accord?
Russia can never again trust the lying West.

The reason why governments are going further right in Europe is a rejection ion of the bureaucratic E.U. The opposition in terms of immigration and net zero are becoming the lightning rods between liberal and left leaning parties vs populist and conservative parties. I see the waning of support for aid to Ukraine by the populist right in Europe as political messaging for the upcoming elections

    • @dannydetonator
      @dannydetonator Před měsícem

Populist right have something common with Russia's tactics: they're opportunists and will use any issue to grab more power and lure all the voters they can. Infowar of values are strongly supported by Kremlin's propaganda network also. It's working overtime to favour all parties sceptical of support to Ukraine. Togeather they try to split western societies while meanings of "right" and "left" are diluted and start to meet at extreme ends. If we want to keep any meaning of political scale, we need a new centre to bridge the widening gap. Also (szcizo)fascist propaganda, in large part sponsored and incentified by the Autocratic Axis (including the "left" one) have to be seriously exposed and curbed, before democratic principles are jeopardised by this infowar beyond repair.

I would also add that a win for Russia, would not just undermine the credibility of defense promises of European powers and NATO visavi allies, it would also massively demoralize Europe itself. This is also a part of larger worldwide push where autocratic systems are challenging the concept of liberal democracy and rule-bound-societies, as the viable way of the future similar that went on in the 1930:s.
It is worth remembering that fascism as an idea was very attractive for a lot of people for a long time, while democracy seemed... weak, slow, soft, ineffective, unsexy, unattractive. Fascism lost not because of the weakness of its propaganda - it was not - but because the fascists lost on the military battlefield.

Russia has been preparing to defend against NATO's attack on the Russian motherland. NATO just has not yet found the right "justification" for attacking Russia.
People who think Russia is weak are still living back in the 1990s.

Great discussion as always; I listen and post on my Facebook page every day. I am a 76 year old American civil engineer living in Kherson, Ukraine throughout the war and I have been following developments very closely in Ukraine, Europe and America. I am 100% convinced that the US will come through with full support for Ukraine including military personnel on the ground and sooner rather than later but not until after the election. If I did not think that, I would not be here. Politics must play out and it is frustrating but that is always the case in America at every level of government. So, we all have to do the best we can until Biden and the Democrats win in November. In Kherson we understand that we need robust defensive fortifications in depth because there may be a second battle for the city this year. And to plan and lay the civil engineering groundwork for a mechanized river crossing later when feasible. Anyway, great discussion and keep up the good work.
