On this day in 1958 {October 10th} the private detective series '77 Sunset Strip' premiered on the ABC-TV network...
The series ran for six years with a total of 206 episodes...
Edd Byrnes played 'Kookie'* on the show; and a little over four months later on April 14th, 1959 his "Kookie, Kookie (Lend Me Your Comb)" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #72, and just three weeks later on May 11, 1959 it would peak at #4 {for 2 weeks} and it stayed on the chart for 13 weeks...
The record's B-side, "Like I Love You", also made the Top 100, it reached #42 and spent 9 weeks on the chart...
    * On the series' first episode Edd Byrnes actually played hit man named 'Smiley'; he later would play 'Kookie' on 137 episodes...

The most innocent form of early rap. He has swag but is a gentleman as he respectfully flirts with pretty Connie Stevens. No profanity, no bitch calling or twerking. Yet timeless. RIP Mr Byrnes😚

His career pretty much ended when he left 77 Sunset Strip. One movie that I can think of, and then gone.
Connie Stevens, on the other hand, had a successful career as an actress and singer.
Watching this, I can't believe how cool I thought he was. Still, how much taste do pre-teens have? At least he was a man, which is more than Beliebers can say.

R.I.P, dear Kookie. You were a legend and loved by many. Too bad the teeny boppers who couldn't appreciate the extraordinary acting abilities you had when 77 Sunset finally gave in and allowed you to partner with the other 2. You looked wonderful in your jacket AND the suit when they "promoted" you. They didn't understand that you became a different kind of "cool" when you did that, a more mature cool that had to put away his comb. You will be remembered always as someone who had way more potential than the world and the networks ever gave you credit for. Rest in Peace in the arms of Jesus..... XOXOXO
