Watch as we crack into Michael Jackson's Thriller - the best selling album of ALL TIME! Thriller was a cultural melting pot and was the first album by a black artist to have songs in heavy rotation on MTV. But even though the innovative electronic sound on the album sounded new, it still had roots in traditional black music.

The Beat It music video also had members from 2 different gangs dancing with one another. How MJ got both crips and bloods to work together for a music video is impressive if you ask me.
+Hushoo They did not work together so well actually. They almost had to shut down the set a few times due to them not getting along.
read director Bib Giraldi piece on the video.
+rdecredico And yet for MJ, they overcame their differences.
MJ's the Greatest
Hushoo Kendrick keeps it alive, thank God!
That shit is not true. Just another bullshit story created to cast the illusion that Jackson can bring together mortal enemies through "his music". Moonwalkers will believe anything anyone tells them about Jackson as long as it's positive, including the lies.
I always thought Smooth Criminal's video was just way better. Thriller might have revolutionized music videos, but smooth criminal made it to perfection
+blablabla I prefer Bad over Thriller album wise. But they are both iconic and legendary.
+blablabla Smooth Criminal is a better song but I'm not sure i can agree that its a better video than Thriller. Thriller is beyond a music video, its a movie.
+blablabla Agreed. I prefer both the song and music video (Smooth Criminal), but both are legendary nonetheless.
+blablabla My favourite M.J. VIDEO is Smooth Criminal (The extended version) Very voodoo much awesome and very sensitive to what kind of spirit can pop up in such places among the right people at the right time. I love it!
This is perfect brain food after hours of editing.
+baracksdubs Enjoy! Everyone go check out baracksdubs latest video of Obama singing Thriller!
My friend showed me your videos when I was in math class 👍🏾😀
Personally I like Up against The Wall better
Can you please do 2pac’s 1995 classic album me against the world because he intentionally tried to make the album more personal and reflective than his previous efforts but considered by several music critics to be the best of any of his albums up to that point in his career.
i love how people are saying "this song is better" or "no this other song is better" but at the end of the day, they're all Michael's songs lol. Clearly no one dares to mention another artist's songs as they can't compare to MJ's
Nicole Calder DASSIT
That's a matter of opinion, not fact. Beethoven wrote nine symphonies. Each symphony lasts 45 - 75 minutes and the orchestra consists of 100 musicians. Without the benefit of the modern technology MJ had at his disposal everything Beethoven wrote was written on paper and completed without recording this part and save it 'til later. Mozart wrote 41 symphonies in the same fashion. MJ didn't write music nor could he read music. He vocalized how he wanted each instrument to sound and the studio musician translated those sounds to actual music. What has MJ done that could compare with Mozart and/or Beethoven?
@@thedarkstranger963 he's done more
@@adam-hp6qt Who has done more?
please more musical analysis, Dr. Sweets!
Yes, please more music would be awesome!
+Lean Doughnut Thinkin' about it, Mr. Doughnut.. so far man we're just glad you liked it.
+Lean Doughnut Is your last name really Doughnut? If so, will you marry me?
Can you please do 2pac’s 1995 classic album me against the world because he intentionally tried to make the album more personal and reflective than his previous efforts but considered by several music critics to be the best of any of his albums up to that point in his career.
Happy Halloween, everybody. What do you think? Want to see more music breakdowns?
+Wisecrack A white British man using a plural term for "you," most commonly used in modern times by blacks and Southerners, which used to be used by everybody in jolly ol' England, but was preserved by Scots-Irish settlers who held on to a term the rest of English speakers dropped?
Oh my, that is quite the complete circle, ain't it?
+Wisecrack Hee, hee! Shomonuh! That means yes... probably.
+Wisecrack I think there's enough important and influenial albums to do more.
+Wisecrack If you guys ever consider doing anime, there's a ton of super thought-provoking shows and movies to choose from. But there's one remarkably profound, discussion-worthy anime that nobody ever talks about: "Mawaru Penguindrum", or just "Penguindrum" in the States. It would blow my mind if Wisecrack took a wise crack at Penguindrum. Trust me: If you check it out, I'm willing to bet you'd agree that it's worth your time. (Plus it's a heck of a lot shorter than Breaking Bad, with only 24 half-hour episodes.)
+Pikminiman if they did anime or manga id want see that and sparky's reaction to guts from Berserk lol
Human Nature might be the best song ever written.
It's definitely up there
always reminds me of my childhood, and gives me the sensation as if it's hugging my soul.
definitely perfect!
And recorded. His vocals seem to have been crafted just to sing that song.
Toto slayed that
yes.
I was never a very big Michael Jackson fan, but I have found new appreciation for his work with this video.
"the beatles arent even close"
"im a loooooser"
you dont know how much this made me smile
Just so you know, according to Guinness Book Of World Records, Elvis Presley and The Beatles have both outsold Jackson. Jackson has "Thriller" but that album wasn't enough to carry him to the top spot.
@@thedarkstranger963 Jackson’s thriller is the greatest album and no the Beatles don’t out sell him hahha
@@The_king567 Not at all true, King of Shit for Brains. "Thriller" is the biggest selling album of all time meaning it sold the most copies of any album. "Greatest Of" is a subjective opinion, meaning it's the individual that determines greatness based on the individual's feelings and/or tastes.
@@The_king567 No need to repeat previous posts. DO THE RESEARCH, KING OF SHIT FOR BRAINS.
@@thedarkstranger963 thriller sold over 100 million copies and still is relevant most albums can’t say that
That was awesome. I love the recognition of modern stars who were new an innovative for their time but also don't forget their roots.
That's partially why I've bwen diggin' so much on this year's Kendrick Lamar album.
The lyrics and message are a hife part of what I loge about it, but also I love that in the modernity of the beats the traditions of Jazz, Funk and Soul shine through.
Not only do the sounds highlight the tradition on Black music but so do the featured artists. George Clinton on Parliament opens the album, Flying Lotus and Thundercat all over it and great Jazz musicians like Kamasi Washington and Robert Glasper are also involved. Bilal and others sing on this too.
Thriller sold 100 million copies not 65 or 70 million copies.and it's been reported like that for years.wikipedia is easily edited and can't prove shit.
MJ- music genius.there will never be another.greatest ever
If you come across a Wikipedia article with invalid information, it will say THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THIS ARTICLE. If you ever find yourself on the side of the majority, you're doing it wrong.
Izabela Gomez
RIAA confirmed that Thriller sold over 100 million
Yea now Thriller is the first ever 33x Platinum in the US and has sold over 110 MILLION copies worldwide!
Thriller is amazing and all, but I like Smooth Criminal better. That's including the music videos. I dunno, maybe it's nostalgia or something but I just fucking adore that song/music video. Both are spectacular works though, and are some of Jackson's best work.
+Omar Elmosrati No, I agree, Smooth Criminal is without a doubt my favorite music video of all-time. It was just so technical and choreographed so precisely. I love Thriller too but it's only more famous because it came out at a time when no one else was doing those kinds of videos. If Smooth Criminal came out in 83 instead, it would be a whole different story.
bashbro1able You definitely have a point. You know, the Bad album was actually supposed to be called Smooth Criminal, I honestly wish it got that name instead. lol
***** Wow, really? Why?
Yes Smooth Criminal wasn't going to be on the album as Quincy Jones said it wasn't a good enough song but Michael insisted it stayed
I listen to Thriller for the first time a few months ago. oh God was I missing out ! I only really listen to 90s and early 2000s Punk. but now I I'm hooked on Michael.
Hot shit. This is the best and most relevant video I've ever seen on CZcams.
Glad you loved it!
WISECRACK GETTING FUCKING SHWIFTY!
+Brendan Scott SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT
+Brendan Scott hahahaha
SHIT ON THE FLOOOOR
I never knew the guitar solo was by Eddie Van Halen.
I remember when the music video first aired on tv. I was a kid and thought it was a movie. That was how epic it felt. I still hold this song in my top 5.
Sparky Sweets, you damn genius! You've gotta make more of these, awesome video!
Fantastic breakdown! This is my second favorite album of all time; the first is the first Jackson Five album I bought back in '69 with I Want You Back on it. It makes me more than proud that it's the best selling album at all time, and it was credited with not only saving the music industry, which was struggling, but changing it forever for the good... well, except for right now (old guy speak for new music lol).
do more albums!!! :)
I agree. More classic albums!
you forgot to mention Quincy Jones. If you take his career into account you can understand the skillful blend of genres.
I love Thriller but BAD is MJ's best album, I believe one of 2 albums with at least 5 #1 songs, something like that. So many hits
Do a new one. Kendrick Lamar TPAB
+Half-Nerd Half-Something Else I second this motion.
+William Lewis thirded
fourthed
So basically, this album was perfectly engineered to sell really well XD
This makes me want to buy a record player, just so I can own this on vinyl. I didn't know half of this stuff.
I'd love to see more musical analysis, especially about geniuses like The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Queen, Led Zeppelin, etc.
Your culture's music is amazing
Back in the day, I remember that this video had a premiere on television. I was a kid, but my mom let my brother and I stay up to watch it. It was a huge deal!
Such a great breakdown of the album and perfect for use in the classroom....until tossing in the f-bomb! Guess I will have to edit this one down a bit. Still, great commentary.
this is one of those pleasant videos wisecrack throws out at you, and i love it
Please do more music analysis!
Also, what happened to the show Boss Bitches of History? I know the first two episodes weren't all that well received, but I think you really had something good going on there!
Thriller will stand the test of time.
really awesome break down! I love this channel so much and I can't wait for the next specials-- they're so informative and inspiring
FALLOUT BREAKDOWN YEEEEEES

Yes! I asked for an in depth look at some big albums a while back, thanks for doing this and here's hoping for more :D
easily my favourite thing you guys have done plz keep doing music history stuff
Smooth Criminal is still a much better song than Thriller.
+Sarvis The Buck If that's your opinion OK. If your making a claim you're going to have to show your work. : D
+Sarvis The Buck but it aint a better video...close but nah
Sounds like an opinion
+Sarvis The Buck Only to the musically ignorant.
+Sarvis The Buc song wise ya , but it doesnt have culturaal impact of the thriller music video
This is what I was waiting for. More music analysis videos!
please do more michael jackson this was so helpful, wonderful and respectful.. this made my day god bless you
Awesome stuff, i'd love to see you break more albums down.
Wow this video was amazing please do more of these
Yup, he truly is the King of Pop for that album alone. Do some more music please like Eminem, Led Zeppelin, etc.
Please do more videos on musicians/history of music! This was fascinating.
You know, it would be awesome if Wisecrack added a show about music analysis to their lineup, whether it's by Sparky or another member of the lineup, or someone new.
Bro you a beast for this!!! I loved it great job. Please put out more idk how you follow up thriller but you're smart, you'll find a way.
*EVERY* track is killer on this album. Thriller invented all killer no filler
I haven't heard my main man Sparky Sweets in a while.
Amazing job on this one!
Vincent Price was my idol growing up. Probably a big reason why Thriller made such a huge impact on me.
Do more of these breakdowns
illmatic
boy in da corner
oasis
I wouldn't mind you doing this to all of the top seeking albums like a side project. I really like how y'all broke this down. I would tune in everytime it's very interesting. Anyway just a suggestion lol.
This was a beautifully edited video.
Ah man I want to see all the 4 new videos you mentioned. It's all stuff I like. Can't wait for those new videos.
Happy Halloween Sparky! Great analysis as always.
Thank you! Very interesting. This album came out when I was about 4, my brother had it on vinyl. We loooved the video even though the wolf scared me (I loved the dancing zombies).
luv the people talking about their fav mj song even though my man was talking about the album! this disc is full of timeless and original songs man
Awesome -- another great video!
Please more music related episodes!
More of this dude, please.
Wisecrack as of last year Thriller has sold over 100 Million copies and is still selling, its in the top 200 billboard chart at pos. 92 today and is always in the top itune 100 videos, this week at no. 8. You just cannot beat Thriller. Thanks for the video
Really good vid keep it up!
4:22 ahaha it's so weird to hear swearing I love it
You had me at "Rick and Morty" and then you went above and beyond with "No Country for Old Men". I can't wait!!:D
YES! More, plz.
*BEAUTIFUL*
"The way you make me feel"
All this time I thought he had been saying "your neighbourhood". I love that song, how'd I never notice?
Greg: If you don't know who Vincent Price was . . .
Me: Get. Out.
Seriously, if you don't know, stop whatever you're doing and go educate yourself.
+TheaterRaven hahaha
As I say always, this is the best channel ever.
great job¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ i've just get in love with this chanel
I have a BA in musicology and I could not agree more. Awesome guys!
You all awesome man, great stuff, ... Got to love Wisecrack through thug notes
I cannot WAIT for that breakdown of Rick and Morty!! That show is crazy in SO many different ways!
new channel idea! more albums! awesome
Please more music breakdowns!!!
I always assumed he said, 'To terrorize yours neighborhood', and assumed it was the kind of olde english that would work well to rhythmic old school horror narrating language. Great vid.
Thriller video clip become standard of video clips separate art form Michael and Madonna launched MTV in television heights. Most expensive video is MJ and J Jackson Scream that is coincidence but thriller and scream very resonates together.
Gonna go play Destiny now. The whole towers been doing the Thriller dance. Ow!!
good to have sparky sweets back. I've been missing thug notes
This was great! I'd be really interested to see more of this on stuff like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen and others!
Great video guys :D
You should make more album reviews!
I think one of the best parts of the album is the fact that its only nine songs long making it easily listenable and shows how Michael could condense so much genius into a short space of time
Vincent Price was originally from St. Louis,Missouri, so his southern slang is not far off from his original accent. He went to Yale and then to University of London. He started acting and doing Shakespeare when he altered his accent.
Oh yeah, Definitely my new favorite youtube channel
You could just look at the album songs, like Baby Be Mine, or Beat it, Billie Jean, Human Nature, PYT, you could just look at it..and it's pop perfection.
great video homie!
This was great!
For some reason, I really wanted to see those women at 1:32 spin in unison, jump onto their toes and scream, "Whooooo!"
Lol
probably the best channel on youtube
Let's not forget the great dance moves that Michael put on the screen in his music videos, inspired by Bob Fosse.
Digging this.
Ever considered analyzing songs and discover the meaning to it? Or at least concept albums like Quadrophenia or The Wall. I think that would be cool!
awesome video!
please do "the genius of star wars"
Thriller is still one of my favorite music videos.
Hey, haha! You used one of my videos 0:47 I love Michael :)
He's not a Mega Pop Star, he's THE Mega Pop Star
I loved this video Thriller was truly epic.
I'm also hyped for the release of you Fallout breakdown. I just barely bought a PS4 solely for the release of Fallout 4 two weeks from now.
