Love it when Elvis sings gospel songs, because they are his favourite songs to see, & he always sings gospel songs for several hours after performing, along with friends & musicians. Elvis sings so beautifully on any song, but he always has so much passion when he is singing gospel. He had a strong faith in Jesus, & always looked so moved when singing gospel. Thank you for another wonderful Reaction.

He was very nervous about this song when it was suggested that he do it. He was nervous that he would not do it justice. He was not a perfect man but his belief and faith were strong. Thank you Dani, not only for your interest in Elvis but the job you do to be a part of keeping his memory alive in everyone.

I was born in 1968, the year of his big comeback. There are so many great songs by Elvis out there, country, gospel and rock... all are unique and special. My parents had an old 8 track tape deck that always had Elvis on it! We kids would rock out in the living room! And of course, my dad looked a lot like him, and he loved him too! He used to have the sideburns also!! He would come strolling in the living room if we had Elvis on and do all the hand gestures and karate moves! It was so much fun. I miss my dad and remember him through the music of this genius. Thanks, Dani!!

And the people loved him for
    doing it.
I'm a longtime fan as you know, and sometimes when i'm feeling bad or sad, i say to myself: now i need a portion of Elvis. As you said, his voice had the ability to calm you down or to comfort you. I made this experience very often in my life.
And Elvis always sang a few Gospel songs after a concert. He calms himself down with it!
Again a great and informative reaction Dani!

Elvis grew up in the pentacostal church but as a child he was also welcomed into the black christian churches near his home.. His mother was a woman of deep faith & Elvis carried his love of god & gospel music his whole life..
That perfomance Elvis had The Imperials as his backing singers one of his favorite gospel quartets as a child..
The only grammy awards Elvis ever won were for his Gospel Albums.
It was well known that no matter what hour day or night he could be found at the piano with some of his singers & friends just singing Gospel songs nonstop.
He even went so far as to have the nephew of JD Somners ( his bass singer ) create & then employ a group of 4 singers Called Voice Incorporated whose job when called was to fly to & check into whatever hotel Elvis was at & then when called .. come to him so Elvis could sing gospel songs & his band & stage singers could get sleep.
Elvis had a Gospel record collection like none other made up of every album produced from every solo singer duet quartet & group that he had heard of & had listened to every one of them at least once.
Elvis found peace joy & happiness in singing Gospel & he never was afraid to let others shine in the spotlight..
One tour Elvis went to The Imperials & asked If they would do him the favour of being his opening act..
    They said yes of course.
Glad you got to see and experience him singing this

    Magnificent again Dani.
Elvis Presley won only three Grammy's in his lifetime all for spiritual performances. Whilst a travesty that he only won three and none for contemporary material it is perhaps no surprise that the Grammy's he did win were for the music closest to his heart - gospel music. For the record those three Grammy's were - Best Sacred Performance 1967 (How Great Thou Art album); Best Inspirational Performance 1972 (He Touched Me abum) and Best Inspirational Performance Song 1974 (How great Thou Art).
During his lifetime, Elvis was nominated for another eleven over and above the three he won. "A Fool Such As I" (one nomination) Record Of The Year ,1959; "A Big Hunk O' Love" (two nominations) Best Performance By A "Top 40" Artist; Best Rhythm & Blues Performance , 1959;"Are You Lonesome Tonight?" (three nominations) Record Of The Year; Best Vocal Performance Single Record Or Track, Male; Best Performance By A Pop Single Artist, 1960; "G.I. Blues" (two nominations) Best Vocal Performance Album, Male; Best Sound Track Album Or Recording Of Original Cast From A Motion Picture Or Television, 1960; "Blue Hawaii" (one nomination) Best Sound Track Album Or Recording Of Original Cast From A Motion Picture Or Television, 1961; "You'll Never Walk Alone" (one nomination) Best Sacred Performance, 1968; "Softly, As I Leave You" (one nomination) Best Country Vocal Performance, Male, 1978.
When Elvis began singing 'How Great Thou Art' live in November 1970 his next Grammy win was still 18 months away and an award for this particular song 4 years away.
The studio master of 'How Great Thou Art' was recorded in Nashville at RCA's studio B on 25 May 1966 at a session specifically arranged to produce a gospel album.
The first live release of this song was on the 'Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis' album and this would bring his third Grammy but this would be the only live performance officially released in his lifetime although the 'Elvis In Concert' album released just after his death would contain another live version.
Elvis also performed two, possibly three versions in front of movie or TV cameras but both would only appear posthumously. MGM filmed one possibly two for 'Elvis - On Tour', the first was this version during the evening show at Hampton Roads on 9 April 1972, which was first seen on 'The Lost Performances' and in San Antonio on 18 April 1972 and some songs from this show were included in 'On Tour'. The other version filmed was of course that filmed by the CBS cameras in Omaha, Nebraska on 19 June 1977 for what would become 'Elvis In Concert' and this would also become the final live performance of 'How Great Thou Art'.
As the 70's progressed the song would come and go. sometimes omitted from complete tours or Vegas engagements, sometimes performed at most shows and the delivery of the song would also progress. It would begin almost identical to the master the sincerity and emotion almost disguising the power behind Elvis' vocal performance, similarly to that Grammy winner in 74.

My curiosity was further piqued when you had not metioned your stressful morning:; even if yoy hadn't mentioned it, it would have been very obvious to me ( and no doubt others)from your demeanour, posture, tone of voice and downcast expression.
I fully expected what was to come, but still, it was a joy to behold.
I watched the lines of upset steadily disappear from your face, the tenson in your body lessen and a genuine. heart-fely smile return to your face.

That is a great performance of the man! I got a request for u, I'll remember you live in Honolulu 1973. It's a great song. His Hawaiian friend Kui Lee wrote this song, I believe for Elvis but I'm not 100% sure? Any way he dedicated this song to him. Kui Lee died from cancer in 1966 at the age of 34. I would love it so much if you will comment this video. And of course with the story behind. You really can see Elvis singing this song with so much love for his friend who died prematurely. This shows that Elvis really was pure. He had deep respect for people and of course for his dearest friends. Love to see your video soon. I love the way you are comment the videos with real sincere love. Sincerely Gordan

I can’t get enough of his voice. I have to be honest it starts getting hard for me to watch his videos from 1972 going forward because you start to see his health to start to wear on him even though his voice never left him till the end. I’d like to see you react to these Elvis songs. I know your gonna try to do SUSPICIOUS MINDS when you work it out so in the mean time.
    1) YOU LOST THAT LOVING FEELING LIVE IN 1970
    2) COME ON EVERYBODY FROM THE MOVIE VIVA LAS BEGAS

Some think Elvis was less of a musician because he never wrote any songs, But.....what they don’t give him cudos for is his complete and beautiful mastering of his backup singers, band, and orchestra. Even tho there is Joe Gurshio as the conductor, Elvis always controls amazingly perfect cutoffs to every song. If you don’t believe me, watch carefully You Gave Me A Mountain Aloha from Hawaii and see him look to his left as the last note holds for connection to conductor. Then Elvis knows there is always a delayed reaction to his cutoff so you can see he double pumps the cutoff and nails the end. You can see this on other songs (Bridge 1972) in many different ending styles. Pure musical Genius!

When spoke of his facial expression saying how he was acting like he was singing & how in tune he was. The funny smirk on his face was due to J.D. Summers cause of deep base in his voice. Elvis always was amazed by J.D.'s voice

Thanking an praise g thru his music. Also for his sweet God loving mother. He had the spirit of the lord. When he was a you boy on the ed Sullivan. His mother wanted him to sing a gospel? Song for her. Well TV producers said no. He said. I'm singing for my mother or. I'm not going on. And he did sing it. You didn't tell him. No. God. Blessed him for the world. He has drawn people from all countries together in love. He is the world bellsheep. Rex humbard s. Wife prayed with him. And she said she paid all the time for hin to be a bellsheep. He never forgot his roots cuz his mama told him not to. He was an ANymber 1 son. He loved god an loved his mama. So so so so much. God bless you dani and be safe. TCB

At 3:40 when he smiles and shakes as if the shivers are going up and down his spine it’s because he loves JD summers deep base voice. Also JD sumner had the lowest bass voice in the world, he could go 4 notes lower than the lowest key on the piano. Elvis truly loved that guy and bought him his very own tour bus so he could travel in style with group The stamps quartet.

Another example of a great man acknowledging his backup singers and how talented they were. He never seems to perform a song the same way. Always tweaks them. Try reacting to 'Where no one stands alone', duet with his daughter she created after his death.

As a musician myself, I really like how you observe and pick up on a lot of things. And I to notice that not just gospel music, for example also when he does in the ghetto which is serious subject matter, he does transform and have this gravity and humility about his delivery. Totally the opposite of Polk Salad Annie and suspicious minds and so forth. And yes, that is borderline operatic at the end, and if you haven't already reacted to it or heard it, he kills a cover of Bridge Over Troubled Water. It's also quite operatic near the end. You could also throw what now my love and my way in there in the same vein. Luciano Pavarotti once said that if Elvis hit had any classical training, he may well have been one of the Great opera singers. But at any rate, Paul Simon heard Elvis do this song at Madison Square Garden and basically threw his hands up and said, well it's Elvis's song now!
