  • When we want to truly get the best performance from a car audio system we must be able to fully tune the system with a Digital Signal Processor. With using a DSP we can tune the crossovers, equalization and time alignment of every speaker and subwoofer in our audio system. JL Audio has an incredible program for this that not only interfaces with their DSP integrated devices, but also with their MAX measurement system, and that program is called TüN4! Let's take a look at the entire process for how to tune a DSP!

    I really appreciate the video. You will have a million views because one has to rewind often because you talk so fast ( I say this with love bro!). I know this video is old however it would be helpful to make one for dummies, people that are very new to this. Also do you have a general guide for Target's let's say for mids, sub and components. Again thanks for this video and all the other where you explain how to get the best out of the equipment we buy.

    I like to make 2 tunes.
    One for windows up and one for windows down.
    The sound is completely different when the sub freq's can escape threw the windows, and the highs aren't bouncing off the glass right next to your ear.
    Would be cool if you made a video and showed the differences between windows up and windows down when using one tune, and how different the 2 tunes would need to be to hit the same curve.

      hello, better you use dsp ch7-8 for sub.w, you can control whole your system instead of speaker and sub.w separately.
      if you have dsp you only need full range signal from Front left and Front right of Alpine Head unit and use mixer function from dsp to output signal.

    How do we go about getting your help with designing a box? I bought a skar 3 evl-10-D2’s and their 3 10 box. The box is 0.6 per 10 and the speakers I got are recommended 1.6-2.0. Obviously installed them and they do good against their 4500w amp. However I’d like to build a box to the correct size and most likely run 2 due to space restrictions as I wanna retain some truck space. I plan on using you amp ideas to mount all the electronics to the back of the seat to fold down in a 2014 Corolla.

    If I am going to use a USB mic is there anyway to test speakers and get them in phase without the max?

    • @crewdawg16
      @crewdawg16 Před rokem

      Obviously I'm a bit late to respond to this, but you cannot directly observe the phase without the max as shown here. What you can do is look at the "summation" of the speakers using a USB microphone and the RTA function and look for any serious nulls in the response. For instance, if you observe the output of the left midbass and you unmute the right and it doesn't add equally across the entire range - you can see where the frequency of the null is you should be able to apply an all pass filter in that area and see if it helps or not. It just becomes a trial and error process.

    Hey Mark - While the JL TuN software is "free", It appears you must have a JL DSP for the software to work. You mentioned the Measuring aspect is free, but I can't get it to work because TuN is looking for a JL DSP (upper right corner says "MAX not detected"). I have an Audio Control DSP and want to use only the Measuring aspect of TuN. My goal is to run Audio Control DM Smart app on one Windows laptop and a RTA on another Windows laptop for tuning. Can you recommend a good FREE RTA for Windows OS? I do not want to use REW because it cannot show real time data. Thanks and keep up the great video's!

    • @CarAudioFabrication
      @CarAudioFabrication  Před 2 lety +1

      You can absolutely use TuN with just a USB mic in measure mode. You will need to make DSP adjustments in the separate software for the non-JL DSP. TuN isn't going to be able to "talk" to a non JL DSP.

    • @TheBBGlobalNetwork
      @TheBBGlobalNetwork Před 2 lety

      @@CarAudioFabrication Understood however TuN will not run unless it detects a JL DSP. Try it yourself. Disconnect the JL DSP from TuN and see if you don't get "MAX not detected" at upper right in the app. It won't work without a JL DSP. You should add that disclaimer to your video Mark.

    • @CarAudioFabrication
      @CarAudioFabrication  Před 2 lety +1

      Incorrect. I just booted up and launched into measure only mode with nothing attached. Make sure you have the latest version of the program.

    • @nicholasames4607
      @nicholasames4607 Před 2 lety +2

      @@TheBBGlobalNetwork so, “MAX not detected” is simply the message that software gives when in Measure Only Mode if you don’t have a MAX connected.
      This simply means that stuff which cannot be done with a USB mic, like real time transfer function measurements, won’t be available, however the Auto Match to target (AutoEQ) still works, you can still take RTA measurements with any connected USB mic or Audio Interface, and the full target generation system works unimpeded.
      When you plug in a JL DSP, like VXi for example, this “MAX Not Detected” message is actually still there, it’s just on the “Measure Settings> General” tab now.
      The area of the UI that you’re referring to will now show the currently connected JL DSP model number (such as VX800/8i).
      To be clear, as Mark mentioned in his reply, there isn’t a single measurement function, with or without MAX, that is dependent on having a JL DSP connected.
      Not one.
      The only thing that you don’t get if you don’t have a JL DSP connected is, obviously, the ability for you to control your DSP of choice from the same UI as the JL Audio TuN measurement software

      @@nicholasames4607 Thanks Nicholas. I will try again. Yes, I do understand that TuN cannot adjust a DSP unless it is connected.
