  • Speakers are a tricky business!
    When you are in market shopping for home theater speakers, people can take you for ride for 2 reasons -
    1. You are unaware of the brands
    2. You don't know how to choose what's best
    If you do not want to fall in this trap, then this video will help you understand how to select between various types and brands of home theater speakers. The top 5 specifications that you can check online, offline, magazines, brochures and in specs sheet which will give you a better idea of what speakers you should buy and which are the best ones!
    There are more than 200 hi-fi home theater speaker brands and getting lost and confused is the common symptom when you shop for theater speakers. Every demo room you will visit and audition the systems, may not have the brands or speakers that they are giving in the quote or proposal. And that's when you go online, you end up being clueless as you don't find relevant information about these speakers.
    In this video, I share with you the Top 5 specifications along with how to read and understand the speaker specs which will help you make better, well informed decisions.
    1. Impedence - Ohms
    The lower the impedence in ohms, the more power the speaker will draw from your receiver.
    2. Sensitivity - dB (Decibel)
    The higher the sensitivity rating, the louder will be the sound from your speaker
    3. Frequency - Hz (Hertz)
    The frequency response is used to describe the audible frequency range that a loudspeaker can reproduce
    4. Power - Watts
    The higher the power (watts), the louder and cleaner the speakers will play. No PMPO, only RMS Watts.
    5. Dimensions - mm or inches
    The dimension of speakers is important when it comes to blending the speakers in your room design. It is important to understand them before making a decision.
    Hit like if you have found this information valuable, and don't forget to share this video with your near and dear ones who are in market shopping speakers and are confused!
    I guarantee you, that they shall thank you.

    Very helpful video..I watch all your videos.they are really great..what is SNR..SIGNAL TO noise ratio.. because I come accross these words in JBL Soundbar...I m confused whether to buy a Soundbar5.1 or a home theatre withinal a budget of 40k

    • @TanmayMehta
      @TanmayMehta  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey Sidhartha, Thanks for your kind words.
      A better justification to your question for SNR will be-
      Higher numbers generally mean a better specification, since there is more useful information (the signal) than there is unwanted data (the noise). And for JBL Bar 5.1 its between 40 to 70dB which is great!

    Very Imformative videos, have couple of questions.
    I have 8 Ohm - Nominal Impedence Speakers (KEF 750) and Amplifire Requirements : 15-150 W. I planning to buy Sony STR-DN1080 which has power output "POWER OUTPUT
    165 W (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 1ch driven THD 0.9%)" . Is this compatible? is it okay to have 6 Ohm receiver for 8Ohm Speakers and Watts sre also bit high (165 vs 150)?
    Please advise.
    Thanks
    NIraj

    • @TanmayMehta
      @TanmayMehta  Před 2 lety

      165 Watts for 6 Ohms means for 8 Ohms it will be lesser. If resistance increases power reduces. So should be compatible. All AVRs are compatible for 4,6 & 8 ohms in general. Though some fail at 4 ohms

    Normally an avr gives almost 1.8 times power to a 4 ohm speaker than to an 8 ohm speaker. Suppose we attach 2 same 8 ohm speakers in parallal, AVR would read it as 4 ohm speaker and give more output, even if divided equally in both the speakers, net output would still be high! So why not? And that would increase spl by 3db, although one has to pay for 2 speakers than one. But what about the law of conservation of energy?

    • @TanmayMehta
      @TanmayMehta  Před rokem

      The more output from AVR is going to get divided between the spks, eventually getting lower wattage than what they would have got individually. Coz the power multiplication is less than 2. And with regards to driving the amp at 4 ohms and with max power outputs, it will get heated quickly. So you would definitely need to do this when you have enough head room or you’re using a separate power amp
