    I did the exact thing to my shutters. I had to use an extension ladder to do the job, but wow, what a money saver this was. The shutters look new; this is a great tip and video!!

    I sprayed shutters with tremclad. Lots of colours to choose. I was able to push cardboard under the shutters. Eight shutters on a raised ranch required three cans of paint. As you demonstrate you need to start spray on the paper and across the shutter.

    Spray painting in direct sunlight is never a good idea.
    Also, you should always mask off any glass areas (like the windows), since you WILL be able to see any overspray.

    Was just talking to my wife about this type of project. The original owner selected green shutters which are now very faded. We want to change them to gray. Hopefully this project will turn out just as good as yours. My only concern is green to gray and the end result. Any additional tips?

    I am going to try this this weekend, only I am taking shutters down since they are very easy to take down. What I don't understand, is why does a clear coat over the dull shutters not reflect the chalky, dullness through the clear coat?

    • @TommyRosaTommyProductions
      @TommyRosaTommyProductions  Před 3 lety +1

      I figured if the shutters look shiny when they’re wet, and when they’re dry, there was a way to seal in a glossy look, a clearcoat and make it look good for another few years.

    Just use La’s totally awesome to clean & restore. Take down shutters u can reach without a ladder. This prep was too much trouble.

    I can clean the vinyl shutters and then spray the clear polyurethan if I choose not to paint first?

    Rattle canning these will fade them in a year or two. Use Sherwin Williams Duration. Remove them and spray

  • @TeeStall
    @TeeStall Před 4 lety +1

    Much easier to take them down to paint rather than taping everything off and worrying about overspray

      Sometimes it is, but it can be difficult relocating the holes behind the shutters when you reinstall them

    Hello,
    I would like to do this with my wood shutters. I was going to tape and place paper around the shutters, scrap off the paint and wipe them down after. Do you think it is okay to just use the exterior primer&paint-in-one then a clear coat?
    Thank you!

    • @TommyRosaTommyProductions
      @TommyRosaTommyProductions  Před 8 lety

      I don't believe that wood shutters where you scrape off loose paint will work with a clear coat to make them look new.

    I did this to my 12 year old badly faded hunter green shutters. It did improve them but there are still some faded areas showing through. Will a second coat make a difference and improve them more? Thanks.
