    That eclectic piece of gear at 0:33 is a Pearl CH1030C, a curved cymbal holder. When I priced it online an unbidden horselaugh escaped me.

      actually, I just started looking at racks even though I loath them. I have no idea what type of rack accessories I need to properly mount all my toms and cymbals. Open to all suggestions for Pearl ICON rack accessories.

    I will preface this by saying that I agree that every drummer's kit is unique and you should set yours up to be comfortable for you. That said, ignoring all criticism is knowingly ignorant and stubborn. There are certain ergonomic principles and basic setup guidelines that one should base their kit setup on, even if it's not super strict. One principle is that you should be able to rimshot every drum. This keeps angles consistent and allows for the use of another sound. You want the stick to be as close to parallel to the head as possible when you hit it. Your stick comes down in an arc, so you want the drum positioned where it will meet the stick at a point in the arc where it's parallel. This gives you the most power and the most rebound. This is why many drummers set up low and flat. But following the arc, high and angled is fine, so long as its not angled to where you cant rimshot it. Even if you don't ever actually rimshot it, it keeps angles nice. Another guideline is that you want things to be in front of you as opposed to on your sides. This prevents you from having to twist your body ridiculously and/or damaging your shoulders by extending them unnaturally sideways. Your ride cymbal is a prime example of this. It is quite possibly the least comfortable ride position I've ever seen. In conjunction with this shoulder issue, your cymbals are very high, which causes you to extend your arms very far to even reach them. Overall your kit is set up in an extremely uncomfortable and unhealthy way. I know you like it, and again, your kit, but don't completely ignore suggestions. I have spent some time making a 3D model of how you could set this kit up to be much more comfortable to play. You'd likely need an attachment that allows you to clamp your hihat stand to you left kick (will make your life and crossing so much easier), but other than that you should have all the hardware. Crashes and chinas are up to you, but again, I wouldn't recommend putting them up too high. The ride and hats are the ones I've put in much more comfortable positions. First, thanks for the rendering. I’m sure it took a bit to do that. However, as I said in my video, I’ll play my kit how I want. When you spend this much on a kit like this, then you can tell me what is comfortable and what isn’t. I’ve been a diehard KISS fan my entire life. Perhaps this does not apply to you; but I’m so tired of the self-arbiters of taste in music, bands, and especially drum equipment and what people think are best. Believe me, I have already thought of the type of suggestions you have made. I’m still quite happy with my setup. No one else is playing my kit but me. So, therefore, everyone’s opinion is irrelevant. However, if you own a Reference kit, then I absolutely want to hear your thoughts and opinion on this drum series. :)

    • @MadCritter

      @@ks7507 My point is that the fact that you spent this much money on such high quality drums only to set them up like this is an absolute travesty. You trying to flex how big and expensive the kit doesn’t impress me, it just makes you look worse for not spending your money as well as you could have. Very “what color is YOUR Bugatti?” energy. I don’t need to buy a kit this size to know how to set one up. I’ve worked with plenty like it and know what works (I’ve also learned to avoid them if I can because they’re a nightmare to set up). Even your idol Eric Carr set his kits up better than you. I’m not trying to be a self arbiter who’s trying to tell you how to have fun, I’m just trying to help you set up in a way that will allow for the best posture, technique, and fluidity behind the kit. If you want to ignore all this, what does that say? If a lot of people tell you you’re doing something wrong, maybe they actually have a point? In all honesty I think the money you’ve spent on your toy is deluding you into thinking it’s perfect. Step out from behind it for a moment and consider what others have to say.

      @ks7507  Před rokem +2

      @@MadCritter again, I’m all set with your ‘help’, thanks. Calling my setup a travesty is a bit much. That is exactly the nonsense I am referring to in my video. I’m interested in your opinion if you own a Reference kit. Do you? If not, we’re done here.

      @@ks7507 While i understand that you like to keep your kit unique and play it your way, i dont see how this current setup could be any good for your playing. It does not take a (beautiful) double bass 13 piece Pearl Reference monster to see how the 15 and 14 being that far apart could be problematic. I could be very much wrong and maybe you actually do prefer your kit like that, but I suggest you take his suggestions into consideration at the very least and see how it goes. I think you’ll be surprised at how much it can affect the way you play your kit.

      @@ks7507 I have, in fact, played a pearl reference at a few shows as well at a local church. I think they’re excellent drums. But I don’t see how me owning one is the only thing that would make my opinion valid? Im talking about the kit setup, not the shells themselves. These comments are genuinely for your own good. I guarantee you if you took any of my advice you’d have a more comfortable playing experience and people on the internet would stop commenting “nonsense” about how you can improve your setup. I genuinely think it’s a beautiful kit but I think it’s a shame that it’s being set up so poorly.

    As someone who plays a pearl kit…nice. It seems really hard to work around the kit with how vertical some of those tom heads are tho. Just a personal annoyance I have found by playing on rack mounted toms instead of them being on individual stands. Like you said, to each their own. I mean hey, It looks cool, too😅

    I had a Reference in 8x7", 10x8", 12x9", 13x10", 14x14" and 16x16" with a 22x18" undrilled bass drum that I sold a few years ago and I will probably buy another one since I regret so much selling it. I completely agree with you: incredible sounding kit that is extremely well made. My only slight complain (being extremely picky) is that the ply joint in the inside of the toms could be a little bit better finished considering the level of craftsmanship on every other aspect of their construction. And yes, they are really heavy drums, so probably not something you would want to carry around for gigs. Regarding your setup, it is definitely not my cup of tea but that is something personal - whatever works for you and allows you to express your creativity. I am just surprised you didn't opt for a rack since it would make your life much easier and provide a much more stable setup for those heavy larger toms.

      Less is sometimes just less. Nothing wrong with a giant power tom kit! These are killer sizes…most drummers just play the standard 8x7, 10x8, etc…you gotta pump it up! I okay for fun, I don’t claim to be a virtuoso.

    Is the Pearl Reference the next step up from the Export? Also, I did not know any major manufacturer made a 6 Inch tom tom any more. Nice looking kit, good luck with it.

    • @ks7507

      Not quite. The next step up from an Export is the Pearl Decade Maple. The Reference is the top of the line series (aside from the Masterworks).

    Good on you mate for buying your dream kit. And your final comment was spot on. You do you and stuff anyone who has a stick up their ass about it. What did make me laugh was you only con, it sounded like the con is Pearl doesn't provide a helper to set up the kit lol.
    Do you, or are you planning on using any dampening on the toms? Especially from the 13" down? Just curious as I'd assume those things would really resonate especially as your room sounds quite lively. Or are the toms quite subdued by themselves?
    Please note, this is not a dig, just a genuine interest in different drums and their natural sounds.

      Thank you. I need to do some more tuning experimentation with my toms. I have the gel pads, I plan on using them for the 15/16 mounted toms. Hopefully I can give the kit a proper tune tomorrow. I travel a lot for work so when I play i sometimes just get behind and go nuts. Ain’t no one got time to tune the drums! Lol 😝 yes, Pearl should supply a drum tech with the purchase of every power tom kit! Lol 😆 😀😀😀😀

    Why does anyone care how big this set is and how it's set up ? It's his preference. As for skill, I've seen great drummers on big and small kits and I've seen crap drummers on big and small kits. It's his money and he's obviously worked hard to be able to spend it how he likes. For many of us it's the enjoyment we get out of playing. It is neither your money nor your drums. In my somewhat humble opinion the negative opinions come from drum snobs.
