  • The one thing I like about Warrel Dane is that he is always willing to stop what he is doing to give us an exclusive interview. So on a night when he was just hanging out at a local club to watch the band Blackguard, we got him to talk to us for a bit about all the many things he has cooking right now. We also get to hear from the rarely heard from (but very talented) bassist Dagna Silesia. This interview is worth watching, if even just to watch her go toe to toe with Warrel.
I also will admit to cutting out the part where I ending up getting a little too choked up about how his song "Brother" related to my own life. I have always taken pride in giving people the goods as raw as possible. This means no edits other than slapping on the intro and outro. But no one needed to see this. The words of the artist are still un-cut as always.

I love warrel dane because he puts so much thought and meaning in his songs. For example, here are some lyrics "The walls of truth, the wise can see them fall" Hell of a lot better than todays stupid shit pop

Who's the guitarist they talk about in this interview? Shannon Charpe? I'm not sure how the last name would be spelled.

One of the most cringe-worthy interviews I've ever watched. Poor Warrel had to endure this guy's complete inability to connect in a social way. It seemed like the guy had waddled up to him after a show which he obviously wanted to see, and cornered him to talk shit he didn't really want to speak about. I switched off after the "my brother died of a heroin overdose" comment, car crash interviewing skills. And to refer to his bandmate as "SHE" and point like that (forgetting her name after 5 minutes) was horrible to watch.

Actually I have known Warrel for decades. I have done interviews with bands for 3 decades. A comment like yours is rare, so it seems that even trolls like you mostly enjoy my work. So please go back into your hole until you can do better. Thanks.

Firstly I would like to say thank you, because I didn't think I'd get a reply from this, and I genuinely appreciate your response. I am certainly not a troll in any sense of the word, just a Warrel Dane fan. If it actually was you that conducted this interview then you should really consider another career path, after 3 decades of your expert reporting skills the world has (of course) been a better place. I also haven't seen any of your other "work", however I'll know to avoid it in future as I can't say I "enjoyed" this.
I really like the fact that you interviewed Warrel, a guy THAT talented needs to be interviewed and requires more exposure, however your interviewing style left much to be desired. The interview was extremely uncomfortable to watch, it started off well but deteriorated rapidly into a dismissive and fan-boy style. The incomfort in his demeanor, and how you couldn't even remember his friends name said it all.
I genuinely wish you all the best in what you do, please just try to conduct your professional affairs better.

I actually don't interview bands any more, but not for the reasons you give. Since I received way more praise for my interviews than anything, I can dismiss you comments as laughable. Does a troll know when they are a troll? It seems not always. We do agree on one thing, Warrel does deserve way more coverage. Sanctuary is finishing their new one now. My friend Brad is on that too. So get an interview with him too. I wish you luck. Don't be afraid to show a personal connection to the music. It's very important for making the interview stick out from the sea of Metal journalists. Seriously, I encourage you to give it a try. You might learn something. ;)

Mark Carras Mate, ah don't take the things I said too seriously... I may have had a few brewskies when I'd written those. Keep doing what you're doing, the world is too harsh a place for any more animosity than that's already there. We love the same music, and appreciate the same artists across continents (I'm from Scotland) and that's a great thing in itself if you think about it. Like I said I'm no Troll, just a guy (like you) who loves the music... just felt your interview style in that particular one could've been a bit better presented - but then I'm certainly not a perfect guy either. All the best man, rock on \m/ Stu :)

LoneManDead No, no hard feelings at all. That's why I said you should do some interviews yourself. Every Metal fan should. It's an experience all should have I think. I've just done it already and have moved on from it. I personally prefer more personal interviews. Too often the Metal scene becomes something of a campy pissing contest. So sometimes I tried to show a side others do not. I got tons of praise for this interview because of that (not all feedback is on CZcams). Of course you should feel free to do interviews the way you see best. But Metal is so much deeper than most know. Again, no hard feelings. But please do try to do a few interviews of some artists you love. It will be something you remember your entire life.
