Britney Spears 2021 - An honest vocal analysis

- Britney Spears recently posted a video to Instagram of herself doing some vocal improvisation - a little runs and riffs moment. Miley Cyrus commented #vocalbible, some people were really happy to hear "Britney's REAL voice" again, while others were laughing.
Personally, I'm here for the wholesome memes, some of them are really cute and funny. What I'm not here for is the bullying. Mean comments are not helpful, they're not constructive. Same thing goes for the fake praise.
So in this video I'm analysing Britney Spears' vocals from that specific clip, to give some insights (simplified and easy to understand) into why she sounds the way that she does. I'll also touch on what I'd work on to improve from here.
I've been a huge fan of Britney ever since "...Baby, one more time" dropped when I was a kid. My room was plastered in posters of her, and I'd record every music video, performance and interview I could find from the TV over on a VHS I had dedicated to her. I wanted to dress like her, do my hair like her, dance like her.. she was my queen. I am so happy she's free now, and that she gets to enjoy little moments like this video - just filming herself in the mirror.
Let's give her the room to play around and let Britney FIND HER VOICE again in every sense.

I'm SO excited to see what new music Britney's cooking up, but also to follow her vocal journey now that she's free. Do you think she'll keep her signature sound, or do you think she'll go for a fuller sounding voice eventually?

I'm just telling you she took an interest in her, Rhett Lawrence, at the Grammy Award and former producer of Mariah.
Hopefully she shows the world her natural vocal ability on her next album after the BOOK has been released...she could make an album like TAYLOR ( Folklore or Evermore ).
I didn't even know she could belt THAT HIGH and I'm a fan of hers lol. Very impressive, she has a lot of potential, obviously 💜
Love this analysis - constructive but fair. Her head voice used to be one of her strengths, especially during the peak of “baby” voice. The mid-belts and lows especially during the earlier part of her career were pretty strong. I think there’s probably a lot of trauma that has affected her voice, too. Would love to see her take full control over it and work with someone who can really help her regain her vocal identity.

Your comments are really on point... I just think she was taught to sing only one way and forgot how to do it properly... Would love to see some proper teacher let her unveil her real potential
Thank you! :) Appreciate you watching. I think she could really find her sound and get back to a healthy technique with a proper teacher too. And also getting rid of all that's been stressing her and taking a toll on her body, getting back to health both mentally and physically will help.
Brittney still has it in her after all these years. I know it's not 100% perfect but she can still sing.

This seems to be Britney staying engaged w/ her fanbase. Just a start (or restart) into a freer space. Just have fun w/ it. I'm sure she'll put in the work.
Yes, I talked abut that at the end of the video - how it's her finally being free to play around and even recording herself and sharing what she wants. I think it's great.
This was the only way she was allowed to sing for all her career, forced by her team, but in 2004 she recorded an unrealized album using her real tone (and it’s on CZcams). She said she was manipulated so i think she could belive that her fans love that Britney, the one with the baby voice…

I think she makes her voice sound intentional in this video....If we listen to some of her Ballads live she sounds great.

I came searching for a voice analysis after seeing footage of her singing during prime. Britney sings in her throat. She was conditioned to sing like a baby and I feel like having voice lessons were never a concern for her team. I hope she gets guidance from a great teacher to help her rediscover her true voice
You're right, it's more a baby voice instead of her real lower voice. Maybe i'ts difficult to her to sing without a tight larynx like she did so many years ?

Yes, as mentioned in the video vocal training and focusing on not lifting the larynx so much (which is what creates the "babyvoice") would help.
