Using Cheap Cellophane Instead of Expensive Gels - Color Correction With gels

Can you replace $2/Foot Lighting Gels with cheap cellophane wrapping paper at 2¢/foot?
We try to demonstrate the difference between lighting gels that are formulated for exact color matches and basic cellophane sheets used in gift baskets and gift wrap.
We found that the gels are typically might lighter and create exact colors as they should.
However, the cheap wrapping paper gives us strong colors for mood lighting and reliable colors from any common light source.
You still need to invest in gels for color correction, but for basic color mood lighting, the expensive gels are not needed.
