My wife is a hospice nurse. She sees death more than anyone in the world. Every day, at least 3 of her patients die, some of them while she’s in their room or even holding their hands. She has so many stories I can’t even begin to share them all. She cares a great deal about each and every person she takes care of. She’s like an angel personified.
Btw, she’s not a home health hospice nurse. She works in a facility.
A great topic to discuss in the future is ways to go back to sleep after hearing terrifying facts of what could happen once you close your eyes... *shivers*

Thank you for discussing Hospice care. The other point about palliative care is that they are the experts at managing symptoms, not chasing cures. So patients may even continue chemotherapy, if it is anticipated to minimize their disease burden to allow them to live more comfortably.
My father has been in hospice for five years now. Every major holiday, his head nurse tells us to make it special, because it'll be his last.
When planning a funeral, it's much cheaper to go through independent vendors for your coffin, tombstone, and burial plot than to go through the funeral home or cemetary. It's also a good idea to prepay for your funeral if you can. The cost of a funeral will always go up, no matter what the economy does. So paying for the basic necessities can save your loved ones time and money. You can actually buy pre-owned (but not pre-used!) grave sites through a real estate agent. One final cost saving tip (that I hope you never need) is that child sized coffins cost more on average than adult sized coffins. No, I have no idea why that is, but just remember to buy a liner when you buy the coffin.
As for the child sized coffin one would think that it uses less material so it would be cheaper but I would assume that the process of making a coffin is the expensive part not just the material so it doesn't make such difference. Thankfully fewer children die compared to normal sized people so there is a smaller market for it hence the price is higher.

There are misconceptions about almost everything and even topics some avoid discussion such as death.
I work in hospice and appreciate what you have to say about how hospice is not an automatic death sentence. Sadly, too many people wait until the very end to get on hospice and miss out on the benefits of longer term symptom control, as well as emotional and spiritual support from social workers, chaplains, and trained volunteers.
My mother in law passed away last week. She was other wise healthy and absolutely no signs leading up to the moment. She woke up in the middle of the night used the restroom asked dad to call 911. And that's it. We will miss her for ever.

So sorry. You are right about missing her forever. It has been 22 yrs since my mom died & I still miss her.
I was looking at the cost of sending something into orbit the other day, and currently it's about $910 per kilogram. So with cremated human remains weighing 2-3kg you could conceivably have your remains sent to space for $3000. Although there will probably be extra charges too, but it still couldn't cost more than $5000 or $6000. Which when you think about it, is significantly cheaper than even a modest funeral and burial.
Good to here that the hospice literally behind my house isn’t just full of dying people. Makes it a little nicer to think about

Getting involved with a palliative care team earlier than was "necessary" when my mum was deteriorating absolutely saved my sanity, it would have been a lot harder on my whole family and worse for my mum if we waited until things got super terrible.

Palative care provides more care for your family. Really very helpful for end of life care.

2) Actress/ Actors that debut as children / adolescent in either TV commercials , shows or movies.
3) old time Slang words that still mean the same or close to the same in the modern era.
I have been a Hospice Nurse for many years. It can be to the patient and families benefit to start care earlier. For the patient symptom management to promote quality of life with the use of Nurses, Social Workers and Chaplains. For the family we are able to educate them to have a better understanding of what can happen. Also for some people they may be admitted to hospice after a flare up of their condition making them eligible for hospice. When this happens they have someone coming on a weekly basis to make sure they are doing what they need to do to control symptoms. For example taking their medications as directed. In some cases because of this help they may actually improve to the point of being discharged from hospice.
I drowned and died and was revived during a very bad car accident and I was trapped under the car. I can really say after the panic and when u come to the realization ur not getting out of this alive a calmness comes and I don't fear death anymore . A man who saw the accident pushed the car off me and got a citation for his usual strength and courage .it is a miracle I'm alive

6:00 There are a few places around the world where they've been having problems with toxins from cemetaries leaching through the ground into the water table and into the water supply, giving the local drinking water a, um, pungent flavor. 🤢 The bigger problem than the bodies themselves is the chemicals that were used to prepare or preserve them, especially older bodies from ~100+ years ago when they used particularly bad chemicals. And that's not even counting the problems with bodies being upturned from erosion or outright washed out to sea. 😕

A lot of people can't even afford to own land when they're alive, and humans just keep overpopulating more and more, but they expect to indefinitely also waste precious land for dead people? 🤨 🤦 (Also, it's not indefinite anyway someone will eventually dig your corpse up. 🙄)

Even if there were a definitive way to measure an exact time of death, how could he know how long their souls would wait after that to depart? What if some wait longer than others? My grandmother's best friend died in her sleep of congestive heart failure. She definitely didn't wake up and just went to sleep. She was tucked in from her daughter putting her to bed still. Daughter didn't live with her, lived two houses down.

She was only 62 she was way too young to go. She just needed some heart pills and ignored her legs swelling 3x their size.

Heh I was just thinking about what dying in your sleep would really be like the other day when I was reading about how Bob Saget died in his sleep. I was thinking that unless you fell into a coma first, I'm pretty sure you'd wake up before you die. I mean if a cat scratching at my bedroom door wakes me up, I'm pretty sure dying would, too. But, in Bob's case, he had suffered a head injury, so he probably fell unconscious before ultimately dying. So he really would have died in his sleep in all likelihood. Or drug overdoses of opiates, sedatives, alcohol, anything that slows Which, if I ever die, is exactly how I'd like it to be.
Probs shouldn't have watched this while still mourning the death of my dog. She was cremated, and I think I was better off not knowing the intricate details of that process.

Poorer people still have a lower life expectancy. Maybe less often because of hard labor or squalid conditions (though also those ofc) but lack of access to healthcare and healthy food etc.
