He’s an olympic medalist and his sister went to Harvard and started a major online company. His parents must be very proud.
And he went to Yale, crazy.
His parents raised geniuses omg
@@atinymoonizen not just genius, but very ambitious and hardworking children. Those are the true secrets to their success.
Elite athletes and academics. Nathan Chen: Gold Medal + Yale. Chloe Kim: Gold Medal + Princeton. Eileen Gu: Gold Medal + Stanford.

I just watched his 2022 performance in Beijing & I'm so impressed. He's so knowledgeable & talented, it's insane!
If you haven't seen it yet, look up the video for his free skate at the 2019 Grand Prix Final. It's the Elton John program, but it was done to utter, complete, total perfection. It bugs me that Johnny and Tara say that his Olympic gold medal free skate is the most perfect he's ever skated, when he made an error. Just one and not a big one, but still. I guess it's their job, though, to say that. I'm just happy he got that gold medal. He deserved it.
@@trylogic4084 I went back & watched that performance. You're right, it was pure perfection! He deserves that gold, even with that tiny error. I'm super stoked to see what the future holds for him. 🙃
This made me realize we need more movies about men’s figure skaters, maybe even a movie about Nathan Chen himself one day!
Yes!
Nah. All he can do is jump Quads. That’s not figure skating. Yuzuru Hanyu is the face of men’s figure skating, as his jumps may not be as impressive as Chen’s, he’s got real talent and artistry.
@@kurosawa9857 downplaying Nathan's talent won't make yuzuru get the gold hate to break it to u
@@kurosawa9857 can't I just admire both respectively? :')
Hanyu was defeated by Chen 5 times in a row. Last time nearly 50 points ! Pathetic fanyus are underneath every Nathan's video.
He even knows so much about all the tricks the producer makes the audience believe haha😂😂
Well, he’s actually being polite I’d say. You don’t have to be Nathan Chen level to know how impossibly exaggerated some of that is. Like there could be no way physics would allow one to throw a partner and have them suspended in air while you casually jump a triple and then catch them 🤣
@@1chienandalou lmao right... or the death spiral into twist like nbd............... anyone who's been even a casual watcher of pairs skating would clock it as the most improbable thing that could happen
With people like Nathan Chen, yuzuru hanyu, keegan messing, roman Sadovsky...how can you not love male figure skating? Some of the most humble and talented athletes 👏
I remember watching Keegan at my old figure skating competitions back in the 2010s when he was competing at USFSA events in WA! So cool to see him make it this far 😭
Yess
He's so humble and kind. You can truly see it.
The original title was "Olympian Nathan Chen..." but now it's "Gold Medalist Nathan Chen..." 😌 PERIODT, KING, AS HE SHOULD. 👑👑👑
I love how much professional skaters love Blades of Glory. Adam Rippon loves it too.
Probably because it's the only figure skating movie that is intentionally funny, whereas the others are unintentional comedy.
Nathan is always so well-spoken. I met him back in May of 2018, and he was definitely super nice! As a former figure skater, I'm glad he's explaining everything to everyone in an easy way so they understand it!
I love Nathan Chen interviews! This kid always speaks so quickly like he might forget what he wants to say.... I know that's not the case, but it always gives me a chuckle.... Just so everybody knows, Tiffany Chin was the first American woman to do a triple Axel. It was better than Tonya's as well; maybe not as powerful, but flawless... Tiffany did the triple Axel back at a time when most women could not even do a triple flip....
BTW, Good luck at the Olympics Nathan! I hope your skate your best and win! You are the most consistent skater and have the best mind under pressure of any skater who ever lived!
Not forgetting Midori Ito! Hers was incredible!
@@lindatannock yes indeed Midori Ito was world first. She was super badass. I never forget that skate I believe 91 worlds? First she had a collision with someone in the warm-ups that made a blade make a hole all the way through her boot, she was limping while walking but she still skated. Then she accidentally jumped out of the rink, but she got up within a second and continued her program like nothing happened. She also continued skating into her 50s competitively. As an adult skater.
No one ever says Tonya landed the first triple axel, but she was the first one to land a triple axel at the competition and that’s what counts, that’s how sport works. No one cares about what you do in practice, everyone cares about the competition.
@@iambetakaroten the first woman to land a triple axel at competition was Midori Ito. Tonya was the first only among American female skaters, maybe that's the thing you wanted to say
@@daretodream9765 Thank you for adding your correction. It's discouraging to read so much misinformation, so it's nice when someone writes an accurate account.
HE DID IT! HE WON! Congrats, Nathan Chen, on the gold!!
What so proud representing a warmogering country which is full of asian hate!
Bug off, china trol. You are not welcome here.
@@Crispin-mf4yo The couple mentally deranged people do not represent the country that loves and is so proud of its Asian American population.
What a seriously likable, humble human being. Nathan Chen did the United States proud, regardless where he ended up ranking in the 2022 Olympic Games.👍🇺🇸
He is humble and you can relate to him as a person. I want him to be my adopted grandson 😀😁 Best of luck and God Bless.
I love how passionate he his, how he expounds upon each and every answer he gives🥺
Also congrats cuz he’s a gold medalist now🥇🥇🥇🥇
I love that he's just a regular, genuine guy. I just watched his Beijing performance and loved his joy and talent. This was a really nice look into what goes into skating
‘I’m not super well-versed in pairs skating’
*immediately breaks it down in great detail*
😂😂😂
Similar to how he'll say that everyone and anyone is better at skating than he is. Super down to earth and humble champ.
He surprisingly knows a heck of a lot. So either he trained alongside pairs, or maybe studied pair skating himself as he was growing up.
Nathan, you're the best. No one moves like you on the ice. You are pure poetry. The first time I saw you skate, which was a few years ago, I knew I was looking at someone special. And I was right. Hope to see you in 2026 Olympics!
it's so satifsying hearing blade of glory was pretty accurate
It’s hilarious that that’s the most accurate Skating movie 🤣
Figure skaters with ballet background is very obvious by the way they skate, Nathan is a natural. So happy he got the gold this time.
He is so eloquent. Great job Nathan ❤️
Shoutout to Nathan always acknowledging how ladies are also doing quads and shoutout to the Russian ladies that pushed the sport to this point in such a short time!
actually Japanese Miki Ando was the first woman to ever do a quad in competition, way back in 2002
@@jaqui1401 Yes I know but she never competed it consistently like the Russian ladies are right now

Who is here after Nathan absolutely KILLED IT at the olympics?
He's so humble, eloquent, and genuine. I love thisss ❤️
Nathan is a BEAST! His Short Program in Beijing was SOOO AMAZING!! I Could NOT Believe his Moves and Jumps!! SOO IMPRESSIVE!! HE should Win the GOLD for SURE!!
And he did!! (:
SPOTLIGHT ON 10 YEARS OLD NATHAN CHEN at 2010 Nationals. WOW! Your performance was better than some competitors today. Plus, a standing ovation, with commentators watching mostly.
Is that the one where he redid his free skate at the Gala, because he made some mistakes in it? It was amazing. And he's so cute and charming, and smart.
Nathan Chen deserves to be one of the elite few. He and his whole family must be joyous and bursting with pride. Love to be part of the stimulating dinner conversation around his family table.
Boys can absolutely enjoy ballet & all different styles of dance-- we love to hear it!
Congratulations to our gold medalist, Nathen Chen! Love you!
Nathan is so likable, I wish him the best in tomorrows program!
What a gorgeous guy! So smart, so talented, so insightful! The U.S. is so proud of you, Nathan - what a great inspiration & representation you are!
He never gave up, kept his eyes on the prize, and got the gold!!!
Humble boy! I wish you all the best at the Olympics.🙌
I can watch him do videos like this for days on days. Smart dude. Congratulations on the gold!!!!
He is so handsome and knows what he is talking about. I remember that scene in Flash Dance and thought, get up! As I recall that girl just gave up after that. Something else was happening in that movie. Especially since the Star wasn't the actual dancer.
Thank you for representing our country in skating! 🇺🇸💪🏽 Respect.
Congrats on the 2022 gold medal Nathan!
I was really hoping to see his reaction to the ultimate skating technique: "The Iron Lotus".
Me too! I wish they would have professionals react to that scene...
I fell in love with him after 2022 Olympics! he is so amazing!
Ahhhhh coming back here after his wonderful short program! Let's go Nathan! ❤️✨
He speaking in quads . he speaks very fast !
We love Nathan Chen. 💯
He is so humble )
Nathan Chen talking about the skating in Blades of Glory is just hilarious
Congratulations to this man for the Gold!
He's very well spoken. Not just a high skating IQ but overall a very smart dude.
I love Ice Princess so I’m thrilled to hear Nathan talk about it lol. It’s kind of a cheesy movie but I still love it. Makes me believe I could be good at skating even though I’ve only skated 3 times in my whole life
That movie is downright silly with its inaccuracy, but I know what you mean. It is still charming. It captures the magical allure of figure skating.
@@automnejoy5308 it’s very inaccurate, but it’s fun to watch lol
@@sarahmargaret6498 Exactly!
Wowwww congrats Nathan on figure skating in 2022 🥇~
Five quads in one program, Congrats on your Gold Medal sir. 🎉
Let’s go get the Olympics GOLD Nathan. You can do this 💪🏻
He'll get that gold
@@allandelarosa3618 That would be surprising if he doesn’t get it
So far so good! 😍🙌🏻 Nothing like beating a world record in men’s short program
He got it!
Nathan is terrific!
With ice princess I wish he’d talked about the “breaking in new skates” scene and the “physics applied to skating” scenes. The new skates thing has been a big thing to know recently and that movie taught me it!
Olympic Champion Nathan Chen !!! 👍👑
Nathan would be an excellent consultant! He spotted the phony tricks right away! 😀I was hoping he'll do the "essentials" segment. Wishing him the best at the Olympics!
An outstanding figure skater who moves his sport forward👍👍👍Take care of him, guys!
Blades of glory is part of the reason I wanted to start skating as a kid
He explained everything really well, and he was entertaining, great video.
Looove Nathan Chen, well done GQ! I was hoping he talked about skating on brand new ice skates right before competition for the Ice Princess scene. I’m not a figure skater so I’m curious if that’s a thing like it was in that movie.
I haven't seen the movie recently, but as a skater, that would be unheard of if it was the first (or one of the first) times she wore the skates, and then competed on them. It takes at least twelve hours of skating time to break in a pair of quality skates- for me it took longer, for others who skate 8 hours a day I'm not sure.
@@felixmastropasqua2820 thank you for that explanation! I was genuinely curious about that. In the movie, the drama after the scene shown here started when someone told the girl every figure skater knew better than to skate in a competition with brand new skates (gifted to the girl by her competitor’s mom). It seemed like a nice gesture until the girl fell so I didn’t understand why the new skates were bad 😅
@@Retroglamamour new skates are very hard and not moulded to your feet. it takes a long time skating for them to adjust. professional skaters usually have spare, broken-in pairs in case something happens in competitions
Ahh gotcha, thank you for that explanation @@michelleg8366! Just like ballet slippers then :) I didn’t know that.
Yeah like the others have pointed out it’s incredibly difficult to adapt to new skates on short notice. The Canadian champion Keegan Messing’s skates got lost on the way to Canadian National’s this year and he had 3 days to break in new skates ahead of the competition. Luckily his old skates did end up arriving the day before the competition started, but in interviews he talked about how he spent hours of training trying to break in the new boots in time.
rooting for nathan at beijing 2022 😊
Nathan, Cromwell CT misses you!! Come back to our rink!
Absolutely love this man, so proud of him!
Congratulations 🎉 Olympic champion 🏆🏆
Wow I never heard of these films but nonetheless, Nathan’s got a humble personality and does not demean or pretend to know it all. So he comes across as trustworthy of what he knows and his reactions to film was good. Best of luck in Beijing Winter Olympics Nathan!
I just watched I, Tonya highly recommend 👌 it's amazing and sad and so shocking that it's a true story
Spinning Out is a series on Netflix. The female figure skater had an injury and after the injury she went to doing pair's (I can't remember exactly why she didn't go back to doing solo) She's also bi-polar (so is her mother)
Nathan be lookin real fine here 🥵
I love him!😍
Даже слушать приятно. А катание просто суперское. УДАЧИ.
Intelligent and humble man. Congratulations on all your accomplishments Nathan, especially in winning the Olympic GOLD.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This video shows your pure love of the sport. BRAVO!!
i really enjoy listening to nathan talk about skating, thank you for the video
Proud of you Nathan!
Nathan, I want to see those smiles when youre on the ice too!
Excellent analysis and commentary.
Ice Princess was my FAVORITE movie. Made me beg my dad for ice skating lessons, and I always thought about her blistered feet and it made me toughen up when I was breaking in my own skates. Also.. Jumping Shrimp!
Congrats on that incredible short program!
Congrats Gold medalist Nathan Chen!! You definitely came back with a vengeance this Olympics!
I was too late but I've been waiting for this to see Nathan's reaction to the classic skiing movies.
Congratulations, Nathan Chen, after winning a gold medal in Figure Skating #Beijing2022.

Nathan Chen is an American hero
GIVE SPINNING OUT A SEASON 2 😭😭😭
I am amazed how fast Nathan Chen speaks. I bet he was a smart kid. It is interesting to see another side of him.
Smart? Yes. I mean, he does go to Yale and scored a perfect 800 on his SAT in math.
@@divinearia1601 If he could speak fast, it is likely that he was developing this ability in his childhood, and speaking fast with logic indicates he has some abilities to pick up some new knowledge.
Thanks for representing USA, you are a true American spirit!
谢谢你代表美国,你代表真正的美国精神!
a modern superstar
I'm not that far into the video but van we talk about how many skating mobies make it look like competitions have this dark cinematic lighting when really it's super light and bright and you can't even see shadows^^
Also, gosh, of Course he has taken ballet lessons in the psst, no wonder bis movement is that beautiful. I know many skaters take ballet lessons on the side, but there have been some where you could kinda see they really don't like ballet, whereas with him, the way he's moving, especially *to* the music (last Seasons LP was so gorgeous!), you can tell he has had experience in Dance
Great to see him talking too !!
I remember another skating movie that was dedicated to the victims of the plane crash in the early 60s that killed the entire US skating team, I can't remember the name of it. I think it was about a pairs couple, and one of them dies in a plane crash and the other goes on to singles competition.
Nathan is so cool, super down to earth, and fun. I want him to be my best friend 😊
His reactions to The Cutting Edge and The Cutting Edge 2, haha.
Possibly he could be my second grandson .... :)
@@mrl6956 ...that works too!

So glad y’all did the cutting edge movie. I love it and grew up watching it. The last big element always looked a bit, well, over the top and unrealistic, to put it mildly. Even as a kid, it seemed off. Great video, thanks!
Spinning Out was a great series on Netflix!
