Cubirds is a delight, but for some people it is a lot of upkeep, and mostbprefwr to just play on BGA. I love the art so much I bought it and play it with my nephew, I quite like it as well.
I am a biologist (specifically geneticist) and board gamer too, and love many similar games as you. I was happy to see Five Tribes listed. I LOVE that game. Anyway, you said you haven’t tried Sky Team yet, and I really wanted to recommend it to you. I play it with my husband after the kids go to bed and we just love it. It’s so much fun. It’s fast, and not too deep, but great. I didn’t really like the look of Darwin’s Journey when I first saw it, but given our overlap in games we enjoy, I think I might grab a copy when it’s available near me (I’m in the UK now. It’s much harder to get games I want since I left the US).
Hi Tanya! So glad you found the channel! I will definitely pick Sky Team up at some point - just waiting for it to go on sale. 😁 I just saw yesterday that Darwin's Journey is coming to Board Game Arena soon, so you will be able to give it a try before you buy it if you want (though without the awesome tactile part of playing the game, which I think does contribute a lot).
New to the channel and love the nature/animal theme! I'm from Colorado as well so here are a few conventions I am aware of. I havent attended any of these yet though so I have no idea if they are what you are looking for. Tacticon from Aug 22-25 this year HexaCon is in Broomfield and is usually over MLK weekend.
Thanks Liz for persevering through the list despite technical problems! Appreciate your insight on games with these themes. Definitely need to research “Cat in the Box” further (my daughters LOVE cats), and I still have on my list for a potential gift for my wife, “Three Sisters” - seems like a page directly out of her grandfather’s garden! As far as “Daybreak” is concerned, definitely a good game, but devoting the time to get it to the table can sometimes be a challenge (hope you have better luck!).
Thanks Steve! You'll have to keep an eye out for the August Vlog - we recently played The Isle of Cats. 😁 I finally ordered Daybreak, I'm looking forward to playing it!
Lots of great games there, many I'd like to try (e.g. Atiwa) and many in my collection I'd like to play more, e.g. Cubirds... so adorable! Your video also helped me remember Lands of the Mesozoic seeing it on your shelf in the background. A relative is a big dino fan and I recalled a game where you play dinosaurs out in the three rows, but couldn't remember the name! Looks hard to find here and a bit pricy to just get just based on their love of dinosaurs, but does look cool and at least I don't have to wrack my brain to figure it out anymore!
Thanks for watching! Lands of the Mesozoic is fantastic - I'll be talking about it in the August vlog. The Kickstarter fulfilled in May, which might explain its current high price point. I hope it gets a wider release, it definitely deserves it. I'll also do a playthrough video in not too long.
Nice list again.😊 I also love Five Tribes. It's an amazing game. But you shouldn't play it with people with Analysis Paralysis 😂..... that could be really stressful.😂 Have you backed Kavango? Should be the right game for you. I'm so excited to hopefully get my copy soon 🐆🐃🐘🦏🦒
Thanks! You're absolutely right about Five Tribes and AP-prone players! 😂Unfortunately, I found out about Kavango too late to back it, but I'm looking forward to getting it if it goes to retail - it looks like a great game.
Cat in the Box is so clever.

Welcome! and thanks! I will check these out. 🙂
Daybreak is the game I think about the most and look forward to getting it back on the table soon! I’ve only played it solo but highly recommend it!
Now that the semester is almost over, I will have time to try it out on BGA next week - I'm looking forward to it!

@@bitsandbiology I definitely will keep an eye out for the August Vlog. I have been going back and forth on Isle of Cats… :)

@@bitsandbiology great, that would be cool to see! Thanks also for the Mepple PhD channel recommendation here!
Thanks for the video, Liz!
