I know you’re not asking me, but my five year old likes his independent play time. I just make sure he has options and things he can use his imagination with. He’d be playing and I’d just tell him I’m going to do some things around the house and he can play by himself. And depending on their age talk about the importance of having alone time sometimes.
@@lindseystein9676 thanks. I'll try be vocal about it and need to get him more puzzles. But sometimes I feel my kid being a single kid seems to want attention when I work on my computer. He jumps over me and on me to look what I'm doing and even stops me from working. I sometimes feel that he feels alone since it's just me and him till the evening or am I just assmuing this
@@julieatlife1924 I am not a mom but I kinda raised my bro since I was 14 years older. I think you can tell him that you need time to do some work and in this time, he can play by himself or help him choose something he would like to do. It's always nice to give them a time. If he cannot already tell the time, show him where the hand of the clock will be before you are with him again.
Keep it short in the beginning and get to him as soon as you said you will and slowly increase the time when he is used to it. He will know that you will be fully with him again and will trust that you mean it :)

Several of my housemates in university (in the U.S.) were home schooled and they loved the experience. We went to a rigorous university and they all excelled as well.
I’d say the main difference were some social behaviors that were sometimes a little strange (that their parents never corrected) but regardless they were great!
I would also consider doing home schooling but I am not a creative mom and I know my kid will be super lonely. Luckily we have fantastic Montessori schools around our neighbourhood with small classes.

You do not have to be creative to homeschool. It's all about learning and enjoying learning. I homeschool and it's a huge blessing for my kids and family. 💓
Same, it sounds like a nice idea but I don't have any friends or family with kids and would be missing out on the social aspect. I also don't think I would be mentally prepared to homeschool. I'm kinda looking forward to getting house work, working out, and cooking done uninterrupted.
My aunt homeschooled her children for six years but they also went to Royal Rangers + a bunch of other group activities. They had a lot of friends the whole time, but hardly any school stress and you can really tell the difference between them and kids who went to school. They're much more independent, less self conscious, no problem studying on their own etc. Every children's psychologist I've ever talked to agreed that when done properly, homeschooling is very beneficial
I know tons of homeschool kids who are very social :) can connect with other home schoolers etc,they usually finish ahead and do better but to each their own of course.
I’m a boring mom and still homeschool. We joined a Christian co-op so the kids take fun classes on fridays.
Growing up I was at different times in public school, private school, and homeschooled. There were pros and cons to each different method. For all the people who think homeschooling makes you miss out on things, my favorite thing about being homeschooled was the opportunities of which we were able to take advantage because we weren't confined to a school building all day every day. That part of it was pretty great! The con was the added difficulty of logging all of our work and proving to an agency that we had actually learned and accomplished things (homeschooled in High School) so that we could get an accredited diploma, but I think it was worth the extra effort. There's no one right school for every one. You do what works for you!
We are fellow homeschoolers. Neither my husband nor I were homeschooled, but we decided to homeschool our five children. One is now doing well in college, we have one in 11th grade, one in 8th, and one in 1st grade. Our youngest has not started school, yet. I love homeschooling all of them and wouldn't have it any other way. :)
I have been homeschooled since preschool, and this year I will graduate high school. I cannot emphasize enough the many benefits of homeschooling. I have a much closer relationship with my parents because of it. I think I have learned more homeschooling because of learning at a pace set especially for me. When I had struggles with something, I could stop and make sure I understood before going on. Homeschooling is not for everyone, but I am so grateful that I was homeschooled and I hope to have the same experience with my own kids someday.
Welp, I was home schooled and I had a horrible experience from it. I grew up in an emotionally abusive house hold where my mother was extremely neglectful when it came to schooling my brother and I. What made matters worse is that I’m legally blind in one eye and have auditory processing issues (meaning that I have difficulty understanding language). I eventually went to school in my high school years and the amount of catching up I had to do was unbelievable. It is a miracle from God that I have been able to graduate high school and college with decent grades despite being set back years on my education. I think home schooling is a great option but you as a parent MUST be on top of your child’s education. Not to mention have you child exposed to kids their own age (I wasn’t able to make friends or even talk to people of my age group well into college). You have a good head on your shoulders Sarah. I have no doubt that you will be an amazing homeschool mother. I’m only staying this as a precaution to people. I in no way want to bash people who chose this life style. I just want to let people know what NOT to do. God bless you and your beautiful family❤️
I'm sorry you had this experience but you're projecting. A child that is homeschooled by an abusive parent will obviously have a horrible experience. Non-neglectful parents are not going to be like your mother was to you. So of course they will make sure to educate their child and do their best to remove the stresses of traditional school. This is common sense. There is no need to caution people. You're projecting your fear and anxiety onto others.

I was homeschooled growing up and honestly really wish my mom had put me in math classes, I dropped out of college because math was just too hard. I’m going back to college this fall as a 22 year old and I’m terrified. If your kids are struggling in something don’t hesitate to out source. Do what’s best for each child. My special needs brother was public schooled which was great for him. My other brother and sister stayed homeschooled which is what they needed and we recently adopted my other sister from China who is in private school to help her learn English. In the end each child has individual needs, because i was the oldest my mom was stuck on homeschooling me and it had negative effects. We did do co-ops which gave us plenty of social interaction but my mom didn’t put me in a math class because it was hard for me and she didn’t want me to feel embarrassed. I’m probably going to have to start at about a 9th or 8th grade math level.
Public school doesn’t guarantee you’d be good at math. I was public schooled and struggled at math. I took intermediate algebra 3x in college and barely passed 1x.
There are older people that go to college it’s not just for younger people. My mom came from a different Country didn’t now English and drop out of high school. When she came to America she got her self a ged went to college and work full time while having me. and now she’s RN so if u want it bad enough you’ll do what u need to get there
Tiffany Wheeler she didnt really say that, she means that she struggled in an area of her schooling. If your kids are struggling in any aspect of their schooling (whether its in homeschool, public school, etc) its always best to seek out extra help. Whether its tutoring, programs like kumon, or taking up extra classes for your kids outside of their schooling environment.
I went to public school and always got A's up until 8th grade. Standardized tests were always way above grade level. Once it hit advanced algebra 2, geometry etc in 9th grade I just couldn't get it. It made no sense. Being bad at math soon became my identity lol. So I guess technically I'm also near a 9th grade level and I went to public school from prek-12th grade
I am extremely self-conscious about my math abilities from being homeschooled, I used to get teased for it when I switched to public school when I was 14. Honestly do what's best for your child, if you see they are really struggling and you can't get through to them look for other options! they will thank you.
I was homeschooled all the way from pre-k to graduating high school. I appreciated my mom and her hard work so much!

My first baby is due in April and we are considering homeschooling. All the school districts around my area are not very good and private school is so expensive...We shall see how everything goes!
My first baby is also due in April, the 25th, and my husband and have already decided to homeschool our child and all our other children! I was homeschooled myself and one of the greatest things I ever learned was to teach myself things. I feel like homeschooling better prepares a child for everyday life challenges! Homeschooling will come with it's own challenges but I find it's also healthy for the mamas to relearn things and stay educated themselves as they teach their children. Don't let anyone discourage you. You are that child mother for a reason. The Lord made you the mother of that child because you and your husband know what is best for them, not anyone else. I pray that you have a healthy pregnancy, delivery and baby! And that you find many blessings becoming a new mom and that when the time comes to homeschool them you will be successful! ❤😌
I wish everyone lived like finland where education is free and the best schools are the local school. You dont need private school
Kelly Fjällström a Lot of People choose to send their kids to religious private schools. That’s the main type of private school in America. Religion is not taught in public schools.
I had the same issue and my son has went to a cyber school. He is graduating this year and it has been an amazing experience. Connections Academy.
I guess I’m not surprised about the negative comments because people are so close minded. Both homeschooling and public/private school can be beneficial as long as they are done right.

Yesss! We’re a homeschool family, 5 years into it and the benefits are endless!! My 4 kids are thriving and have a such a LOVE for learning!! I’ve only seen it increase over the years! Plus the relationship that our kids develop as siblings, and as a family in general, is worth it!

i am a senior in high school. graduating in august. i am also homeschooled. i’ve been homeschooled since the beginning of the 5th grade. i truly do believe that homeschooling has changed my life. although some people think that homeschooled kids are “socially awkward”, they are not. they are hands down the best kids and people i’ve ever met. and sometimes if someone asks me where i go to school and i day “i’m homeschooled” they get kinda weird and not interested. i also think that teachers have issues with homeschooled kid’s because they feel offended that the parents are doing the teacher rather than the educated person who is supposed to do it. but honestly FORGET those types of people! i love that you are considering homeschooling your kids! it has been the best years of my life!
Yeah and it also reached them go only interact with their piers, which doesn't open them up to adults or little children..not always but from what I've experienced when I meet public school kids.

How does that affect socialization? Every kid I knew who transferred to regular school after being home schooled was horrible socially. Not a clue about social cues, how to make friends, how to home a conversation, boundaries etc. How does that aspect of your life work?
@@snowangel7980 Well i was normal schooled, but still 0 social skills. I have been bullied a lot so i became very reserved and kinda anti-social. See? Even normal school has this effect.
Susie H all environments can cause this yes, but it doesn’t seem as prevalent an issue to me as homeschooled kids. My high school had a large number of kids attend it who had previously been homeschooled up to that point, and even the ones who participated in athletics beforehand were still poorly socially educated. I’m just curious if that set of kids was an outlier or if socialization in general is a missed part of homeschooling education.
@@snowangel7980 bias view. That May have been the case in your school. But as a whole no. Read studies on it. They have even studied the intelligence between schooled vs homeschooled and homeschooled children on average are more intelligent.
@@snowangel7980 also homeschooled here, You have to work harder to make friends, because you are not surrounded by peers. Socially though, you can be unsocial or awkward just like a public/private student. Its all about the kid and how the family raises,/and who surrounds them.
I live overseas where the education system does not prepare my children well for an American University. I have homeschooled all my children. When my two boys shifted to an international school for secondary school, they were SO prepared!! Self-motivated and equipped as inquisitive learners. They learn to know new things and not to regurgitate information for an exam. Shout out to homeschoolers! Be encouraged. They learn! Also, they are so well socialized because they are confident children. A confident person never fails to make friends and find their place in social situations.
I homeschool my 6 year old and we both love it. He gets to spend time with me and I get to see him grow every day. I would love to see a homeschool vlog and curriculum. 🤩

I’m from Germany and we have something called “Schulpflicht” which means that everyone has to go to school and if they don’t their parents could go to jail. So even with athletes home schooling is not allowed. 🤍
In Belgium they have 'leerplicht' :) kind of the same, but less strict. You're obligated to study and pass the final exams
Ich finde die Schulpflicht auch richtig so. Zwar ist das Schulsysthem verbesserungswürdig, aber die Kinder haben einige Vorteile. Wie zum Beispiel die Möglichkeit Sozialverhalten zu erlernen. Man hat Lehrer, die spezialisiert sind und studiert haben. Außerdem hat man in der Schule Materialien, an die eine Privatperson nicht gelangen kann, wie Chemikalien.
Und ganz wichtig finde ich auch, dass durch die Schule falsche Erziehung innerhalb der Familie (Rechtsextremismus oder falsche Religionslehre) kontrolliert werden kann.
Natürlich hat Homeschool auch seine Vorteile, aber die finde ich persönlich nicht wichtiger, als das, was eine öffentliche Schule kann.
Bea Z ich stimme dir zu, vor allem weil es Eltern gibt (wie du gesagt hast) die den Unterricht manipulieren können zb über politische Meinung und es auch Eltern gibt die ihrem Kind zeigen das Homosexuelle krank sind, usw. Aber ich glaube auch, dass Sportler die Möglichkeit haben sollten, auch von zuhause aus zu lernen. Das bedeutet nicht unbedingt, dass Eltern ihre Kinder unterrichten, sondern auch, dass es ein Programm geben könnte, dass den Lehrplan folgen muss und um sicher zu gehen, dass das Kind lernt könnte man jeden Monat eine Arbeit schreiben (in einem Klassenzimmer) Natürlich gibt es nicht viele Leute die Sportler sind, aber als Sportler muss man um 6 Uhr aufstehen um 2 Stunden zu trainieren, kurz Unterricht zu haben, dann wieder zum Sport und wieder zur Schule.

I was homeschooled and loved it!!! My brother too. Mom said once he was old enough to go to school she just couldnt bring herself to send him so, now the both of us were homeschooled and now graduated!

I am homeschooled (currently in middle school) and love it. I also go to a tutorial two days a week which I think helps. Especially if you come from a regular school, I recommend if there is one in your area, going to a tutorial even if it’s only a couple times a month. It really helps ease into homeschooling
Yes, the relationship aspect of homeschooling is where it appeals to me - so I get you! I sometimes think that I’d like to homeschool my 3 - the relationship building and highly individualised approach to learning would be great. However, it has also been invaluable that my children are amongst lots of different kinds of people and learn to work with them. The kind of socialisation they have experienced is something I cannot duplicate, and has made my children so full of grace for others and highly adaptable and flexible (something I didn’t anticipate!). I also supplement at home with some bits and pieces, so that I do get to experience being my child’s teacher, so I’m thankful we can experience that together. Just sharing as it’s an aspect I didn’t consider before my children were school aged! Thanks for sharing this video with us ❤️
I did montessori for the first few years of my school and then I switched to homeschooling and it was the best experience ever. I was so encouraged to ask questions and do my own research about things and just seek the truth and it just set me on fire for learning and I graduated early at 15 and started college and I really attribute it to my learning environment and it being so positive and tailored to me and what I was interested in.
My parents home schooled me and my brothers then in high school we went to normal school (if we wanted to, my littlest brother didnt like regular school because he was so ahead of everyone and found it boring) and I loved it. We learned so much because we weren't stuck following a strict curriculum, the curriculum catered to how fast we learned and how much we wanted to learn.
And for people worried about socialization, we were all put in dance, karate, and soccer classes (swimming for me) so we spent lots of time with other kids our age in a far less stressful environment where my parents didnt have to worry about us getting bullied or having negative experiences. Plus we went to the park all the time, went to church, youth programs at our rec center. There are TONS of places where kids can socialize that is far better than in public school where teachers cant always see the behaviors the kids engage in and regulate that behaviour or just dont care to try. I'm in university now and I'm well adjusted and comfortable in a variety of environments, plus I'm doing great in my classes because I'm used to learning how to study on my own.

I was homeschooled growing up and I actually had more of a social life than I did when I attended public school at 9th grade. I think it made me a more independent thinker and able to think outside the box more. And I was able to converse with adults easier. Just my experience. I wouldn’t change it.

I've been homeschooled my whole life and loved every moment of it. I have been involved in SO many things and had SO many opportunities through homeschooling and have met so many incredible people. I'm graduated now and searching for a college. My two older brothers are about to graduate from their colleges and they were homeschooled too and loved it as well and have done GREAT academically. Wouldn't change any of it for the world and I'm super thankful my mom decided to homeschool us 😃
Loved this vlog! ❤️ people think that homeschooling needs to be this huge ordeal, when really...we’re teaching them in preschool and doing puzzles, learning shapes, etc. The transition to “school” is seamless, just education progressing. Obviously it’s not all “easy”, but as parents, I believe we are best equipped to teach our children 😊

Hey Sarah! Love your videos 😍 Just wanted to mention that your little ones shouldn’t be bundled when in the car seat, and the chest clip needs to be directly across the chest with no more than two fingers of space between the clip and child’s chest. Very important for safety! God bless!

Loved the video. I homeschooled both our girls and we loved it. Although challenging at times the bond we developed through all those years of learning together was simply priceless. Now as my kiddos are grown we are best friends. ❤️❤️❤️ I believe fear gets in the way of some parents homeschooling their children. Fear of the unknown. It’s a personal decision and it’s not for everyone but fear should not stop you if that’s your hearts desire. I was afraid of many things but my faith in God to equip me to teach my children overrode my fear. ❤️Keep up the good work y’all, you have a beautiful family.

ANGELINA OSTMITTEL I was early and the first few comments were quite disrespectful, like why a mother thinks she knows more than a teacher who spends years to get a degree or that she is trapping her children, stuff like that. I dont think they were that bad but I found them infuriating honestly. If I remember correctly Sarah says she deletes hate comments. Whether they are actually “hate comments” or not... thats her call.

English is not my mother tongue, so i apologize for any mistake. i live in an European country. I believe we could say that in th European Union the teaching system is quite standardized and similar between the countries, at least in the general organization. I’ve lived in 3 different european countries.
Homeschooling is not very frequent, and when it is practiced it is mostly because of a serious illness of the child, or his inability to go to school.
Actually i only discovered this reality of homeschooling through american/canadian CZcamsrs.
Although i admire the ability and dedication of the parents to do it (having to provide for knowledge, activities, etc for their kids most of the time) i must say it is something i would not do.
Having 2 kids of my own, i believe in school, for several reasons. I think the home environment and the “strictly “learning environment should be separated for various reasons. For the child to create their own universe, outside the “womb” of their parents, for them to start defining their own individuality. I believe for the most part it is very healthy. My kids love to go to school (preschoolers), to have their own friends, their teachers, and to come home to their “family” space and tell us all about it!
Of course i believe children can learn from different us all aspects in life. That still exists when they go to school. But i also believe teachers are professionals like any other professional in their own area of expertise. I don’t think i could ever be able to teach someone the way a teacher could, as he/she learned how to do it in the best way, its their job. I am an architect and i feel somewhat offended when people try or expect to do things that are clearly for an architect to do... i believe each one has their area of expertise. And although this doesn’t take away the value of the knowledge a parent can be able to transfer, i don’t think the mom or dad should be “everything” to their children. Mom and dad can be just that. Parents. I do not want to control every moment of my children existence. Of course i tend to look for the best school, teachers, learning environment, but besides that, the rest is life happening. I say this also knowing that i live in a very safe country, and a middle class (privileged) life. Not everyone could be so lucky i’m conscious of that.
In any case, it is just my opinion, assuming that the reality of homeschool is quite estranged from my culture...
A D I grew up in a military family in the US and we moved frequently so my mum homeschooled us (she did have a masters in science) and I will say I rather enjoyed being homeschooled. I still had lots of friends from all backgrounds and different countries/cultures. Most homeschooled students have to be enrolled in certain areas and still do standardized tests and meet requirements. I felt that I did better in college then a lot of my peers because I was used to being more independent in my studies. That aside many people who are able to homeschool in the US are doing it out of fear of the school shootings that are becoming way to common here. But I do see your points and I don’t think homeschooling is for a lot of people!
Parents don't control every aspect of your life just because they are homeschooling. My mom homeschooled me and my 2 siblings since we were born and I would never say she is controlling. It depends on how you grow up as well. Because I was at home, my parents taught me to be respectful and obedient. I have had plenty of friends, I really don't think you need a billion to be happy. I was in sports teams and so we're my siblings. I have had musical lessons too. These things can be attainted without public school. And these books and curriculums we use, are specifically designed for homeschooling. The parent can explain best they can, but I never had a situation where the book did not explain the problems well enough. If it is too hard for the parent, you can still send them to co-op classes for one day, and get homework for the rest of the week that has already been taught by a teacher.

Regarding the “I’m not smart enough to be a teacher” rhetoric: My mum is a teacher and she says there are a lot of teachers who have gone through the whole education system and are certified, but have absolutely no business being teachers. Some because of their personality but quite a few because they are, well, idiots. She tells me stories of teachers sending newsletters rife with spelling errors and grammatical mistakes.
It also goes the other way, I know several homeschool moms who should have never done it.
That’s not fair. Teachers are meant to be spending their time teaching, not spending their own time (outside of work!) editing a newsletter! Give teachers a break!

Emma The point is not that teachers should send newsletters home, the point is that there are some teachers who lack basic spelling and grammar yet are tasked with teaching kids spelling and grammar. The newsletter example was just anecdotal evidence illustrating that not all teachers are necessarily more qualified than parents. Replace the word “newsletter” with any other written task if that helps.
carmapuchiella teachers job is to teach. They are writing it in their own time and are extremely rushed.

I was homeschooled for my last two years of high school due to bullying and it was the BEST decision my mom ever did for me! Although, it was an online homeschooling program. I highly recommend it!

My husband and I were also homeschooled. We both really loved the experience and we did great in college! You don’t have to be extremely smart or even creative to homeschool. There are curriculums that plan out creative activities and the books take everything step by step. My Father’s World is a great curriculum.

PS I homeschooled from birth to primary/elementary. My two were ALWAYS 4-5 yrs ahead but they were social too. Difficult decisions. But they are top now. All good.

I was homeschooled from kindergarten until 4th grade and then went to a Waldorf school until 7th grade and LOVED it. I definitely had social issues for the first year but luckily improved it as the years went by. Waldorf schools are amazing and would highly recommend if any are in the area of a Waldorf school.
I have a very sweet beautiful and smart 22months old daughter. All I ever wanted was to have a complete family like you. I couldn't have it with my daughter's dad, but I haven't lost hope to have it someday.

Where I live (Holland) its against the law to homeschool your kids, to prevent isolation and things like that. I hope this changes because I would definetly consider homeschooling my future kids

One layer of wool (first layer, then whatever outfit they want on top) and one layer of fleece. Keeps them kids nice and warm!
I would love to see an updated video on how you cut your hair. One of your older videos inspired me to take care of my pixie cut at home instead of going to the salon, which saves so much money. But I’d love to see your hair cutting techniques now that you have the short pixie again!

First of all, I think you’re a beautiful soul and you do such a great job raising your kids as well as managing a proper balance of life.
As far as homeschooling goes - what if your kids ever decided, later down the road, that they were curious and wanted to try public school. Would you be opposed or would you encourage them to go for what they wanted?
I think there are benefits to both homeschool and public schooling. I think, sometimes, a little bit of both is a smart idea.

Oh my, that snow footage looks ideal to me right now.. It is currently 42 degrees C (107 F) with 70km winds for me and i think that i have about 1% of energy left in my body... I am definitely an Australian Winter Baby.... I absolutely adore everything about our Winters. 💕
You are a super mom and so inspirational! I'm in Ontario, I would love to homeschool my 3.5 year old! But she watches the school bus drive by the house each morning and wants to ride it, and is so excited about the idea of going to school next year. We are lucky to have a great public school down the road, but I cant help but feel like homeschool is still best! I just cant take that experience away from her

Previous public school momma and I always thought school was a waste of time the way it was done. I have 2 and have loved being a part of her education. We just stared morning menus and I think you would love them. Both your older two can do them and its also just good time together as well!
Love the video! It looked like you guys had a lot of fun. It is wonderful to homeschool your children. I homeschool my son now (he was going to a private Montessori school) and love it. I actually wish I had homeschooled him from the beginning to be honest.

True about the lip balm, I've never ever needed it in nz but I spent a month in Colorado mountains in the snow and I started using it for first time in my life. Brought it home and it sat unused for years , until I started watching minimalism videos and finally got rid of it lol
