- Here we dive a little deeper in our Mac 120 chainsaw. In this video, we tear down to the block, removing the carb, flywheel, clutch, ignition coil, and talk about some key maintenance and inspection points.

How refreshing to have something explained by someone who thoroughly understands what they're talking about. None of this making half of it up as I go along then digressing into an unrelated shaggy-dog story rubbish from you sir! Top marks all around (as well as for Part 1) plus extra credit for pointing out the potential pitfalls along the way; especially the not so obvious stuff. Details like that half-hidden spring, those double washers on the carburettor and the correct orientation and seating of the seals and cover in the points, etc. are easily overlooked (or even completely missed) particularly the first time around and are both time-consuming and frustrating to troubleshoot when you do. You really should do more of these videos; you're a good teacher.
Great video! Watched “part 1” first. Helping my father-in-law with his 110. This is identical to his and now I can go back through it for a much more thorough refurbishment. Thanks!
As a retired foreign car mechanic I have to say this the best engine tear down video I've seen yet, and I've seen a few. Nothing slip-shod about this presentation. He's obviously put in a lot of time into making it as clear and understandable as possible so that even someone without a lot of mechanical experience will get it.
Your depth and breadth of knowledge on this subject is fascinating.
Amazing how much engineering went into this little machine. Nice vid
Thanks again for your help and support, I appreciate it very much!!!!
Excellent video, I needed this. Working on a Mini Mac 6, trying to restore spark. Basically the same design.
Thanks for the maintenance tips! Here to support you.
Great intro! Awesome how it's like watching a surgery being performed as you do your work. From one creator to another big thumbs up and I just subscribed. xoxoJen
Amazing video. Thank you for making it. I am trying to tear apart a Mcculloch pro mac 510 and learn about how small engine works.
Exactly what I needed. Thank you, sir. Subscribed.
I have a frozen up Mac 120 that I got almost for free out in the shop. I have the cylinder full of Marvel and will get to it after I finish rebuilding a Stihl hs45 that I picked up in similar circumstance. I love my little MAC 32-16. I call it One Pull Charlie, because it usually starts in one pull. After cranking my big Stihl saws the little Mac is a doll. Thanks for the disassembly information on the 120. I will get around to it this spring when it warms up.
A very good video……best “tear down” I have seen….thank you.
I have not worked on a McCulloch Mac in some time. Nice detail in video. Stay well, Joe Z.
I liked your piece on the MAC 120. Excellent deemonsdtration and explanation.
+John Clarke thanks for the kind comments, and stay tuned, I'm editing the carburetor rebuild video now, should be out in a few days.
Our dad love your video. We support you
Just picked up a 110 and it needs complete rebuild. Previous owner used ethanol fuel and all rubber is rotten. good video. Now to find replacement parts.. will be a nice small saw for small stuff..
Keep these videos up. This info is one of the reasons CZcams got to where it is.
Most impressive video and detailed presentation and commentary !
It's a real shame you did not keep up with bringing out videos.
I hope everything is well and that we will see new videos comming through after all !
Best wishes !
Thank you very much!
A helper channel playlist sent me here to assist. I'll try to look for your Centipede teardown one day.
Super great video i’m still a little paranoid about tearing down my little Mac 10 Thank I’m going to stick to my little Homelite XL2 and super twos for now thanks for the video
Good explanation👍
We can do this! Good luck with the channel.
That looks like a difficult to do, but its fun to watch. You got my support.
It really not difficult at all and I’m 12
Amazing, subscribed 👍👍👍
Very helpful!
Nice video 😁👍
Amazing channel.I found your name on struggleville list
nice how to from a fellow how to guy! I subd
Good video thanks
thank you so much
Thats probably the reason I lost my spark I tightened that screw super tight that holding one of the points.
Most points run .016 to .020 gap. If I do not know I set them at .016. Points arm is also probably made from a phenolic compound.
Great video, my buddy just gave me one. Mine dosen't have a idle set screw, just a hole an I can see threads. Any advice will help.
Man I just bought a brand new looking mini mac 120 for 25 bucks with the case 3 chains. The bar is barely even worn. And then just today I bought a a almost mint furry Eager beev for 20 bucks with two chains. The original bar is bearly even scratched. Both start 3 or 5 pull. I'm Syked becuase the first two I have looked like to got pounded on by the entire town. The 25 I have took me a while to realize the clutch drum rim sproket was blown out. Was so hard to move the chain. Took me forever to figure that out. I just didn't even think about it. Nice video though. Not to many mini macs vids
Thanks ! How much work is needed to replace the main shaft seals, and are they readily available parts ? Great video series...waiting for the carb rebuild. J K
I have the same chainsaw that leaks gas. I was assuming it’s the gas line (which is still may be), but after watching your video I think it might be as simple as that o-ring. Any idea the size of that o-ring? If not, you thing I’d be able to find it in one of those mixed bags of o-rings and rubber washers?
saw your Channel on a struggleville.Net so wanted to stop by
I have what I believe to be a later model Mac 130. Did the later models come without points? None are on the motor I have and no screw holes in the block to install them. Great video!!
I have the same saw. It has fire and good compression but wont start. Any Idea's. Great Video's. Thanks
Hey bud great videos. Do you have a re assembly video?
Thanks for the video! What would be the best oil to gas mix ratio for Mac 140? 50:1 or 40:1 ,...?
Great video..love your channel.showing you some love.I gave you a like and a big thumbs up "BIG KISSES"
Hey I was taking apart mine to clean the carb and after a few pulls it won’t pull good with the spark plug inserted, but when it’s out it pulls normal. I need help!!!
Do you need to take the handle off to pull the engine out or just the bolts under the saw behind the air filter the tab under the saw and the bolt by the trigger and the front cover bolts
Question... I picked up a pair of 110's but it does not have the black plate under trigger. What is the difference in 110's besides auto? This just looks like an Eager Beaver. Thanks for the help. Finally, what spark plugs should I run in these?
I hit your big red button! I could use some help.
I picked up a 120 for $20. It has a frozen cylinder. I have the cylinder soaking in MMO right now. I figure it needs new seals and bearings, plus a cylinder and rings. I figure some idiot let it sitting in the rain. It is second in line on my bench. I have a Stihl Hs 45 to rebuild before I get to the 120. The HS 45 has a similar problem - left in the rain. It has a growling bearing but pulls over, fine.
Hi I am writing to you from Italy, they gave me an old Mcculloch 120 chainsaw, I did a restoration, but I have a problem with the piston rings. I removed the piston to replace the rings, but now I don't know how to put them back because the piston does not have a pin (stop / fixed connection point for the rings). I knew that in 2-stroke engines, the rings can rotate on the piston and break at a cylinder exhaust port. So what do you advise me? In what position should they be placed? Thanks.
The isolation washer is probably phenolic.
Hi MM, hi, can you still get new or used gas tanks for a 120? I'm asking because I have one I'm trying to rebhab and all seems good so far but I wonder what's the chance that the gas which has been in there for decades, I think, clogging up whatever is in the bottom of the gas tank. I flushed the gas tank w WD-40 waited and a brown lacguer comes out but very slowly.
Hey i got a eger beiver 2.0 just went threw the carb all is good but the thing will only run for a few secounds with fule down the carb i know how to adjist the hi and low but it wont stay on or coule it be the case seal it feels like it has good compresstion whats your thoughts???
How do you get the throttle wire back on while assembling
Condensers for these saws are $$$ and hard to find.Would a condenser from a Echo chain saw work? They look similar.
I assume the engine has reed valves. Are they serviceable?
It's channels like yours that Make CZcams great and also why you (and me) are low on the sub count. You don't need a CZcams channel to watch so people search for a problem and watch videos and click off. Get the watch time but no love. LOL. Anyways here's some support
Nice channel, and thanks for your help. I went over and returned the favor.
I Subscribed and like ! 275
Phenolic is the word you are looking far. Lots of points had a phenolic arm for the points.
Could I ask you some newbie questions by chance? Saw a comment you made on AvE
