  • This is my build review and maiden flight of the T-Rex 500x. Head's up: I'm a novice helicopter pilot--just getting started with helis. My flight videos reflect this reality. i.e. Don't expect much in the flight department. I'm still learning to build and fly helicopters.

    Hi there! Great review, simple and straight forward.
    I got hooked up with a small OMP Heli but decided I had to build one from scratch to learn. Decided for the T-Rex 500X, and I am loving the build experience.
    Like you it was a bit of a disappointment the ESC from HW not supporting the programming box or the wifi That I already own from other toys. But for my level of skill I am sure it will good enough.
    Imagine that a couple of months ago I didn't even know what Open TX was and thanks to you and your channel I am having a great time learning all these new things.
    I look forward to more videos of this model or helicopters in general.
    Thanks for sharing.

      I like my T-Rex 500x a LOT. I'm still very much a novice, so I can't do too much with it yet, but it's very nice to fly so far. I'm glad the videos have helped you progress with the hobby. Thanks for the feedback.

      I've been very impressed at the quality/price equation on this so far. If I did it again, I'd probably buy the kit and add my own electronics, but that's a personal preference thing and not meant in any way to cast shade on what they provide. I just like Ikon and I would like telemetry from a Hobbywind Platinum (plus RPM info).

    I have BeastX that came with my 800 to get rid of. I really wish they'd omit those, especially on the larger helis.
    Also, that is not a bushing on the tail pushrod. That is a protective cover. You glue that to the pushrod and the metal slides in the holder you modified.

    • @jamesrandolph3075
      @jamesrandolph3075 Před 2 lety +1

      Scott, glad to see your comment correcting the "bushing" error. You are correct that it is not a bushing and all of Align's instructions I have read make this very clear. His carbon fiber pushrod is going to wear prematurely sliding back and forth in that metal sleeve.

  • @poker8193
    @poker8193 Před 2 lety

    I glued the bushing to the tail push rod and let move inside the plastic mount. Maybe I was wrong but it didn’t lock down in the plastic mount and I figured it would be okay to act as a bushing . Hopefully that don’t come back to haunt me

  • @jiawenbao3698
    @jiawenbao3698 Před rokem

    For the tail rod bushing? I believe that the manufacturer wants you to CA glue the bushing on the rod so that the bushing is actually moving with the rod inside the clamp hole. I don't think the carbon fiber should be rubbing against steel.

    • @amazingmike2004
      @amazingmike2004 Před rokem

    Glad to see someone still flies helis. Go bigger, it will be more predictable and much easier to control. My Protos 500 gadders dust on a shelf. The brand is dead and parts are unavailable... Ikon / Brain also hard to find at stupid prices. Have you tried the new Spektrum flight controller? Any good?

    Question from Switzerland (hope you still reading responses): I have two Trex500Xs, both with a 520MX motor . One Heli (a bit older) has an Align BL80X ESC (like yours) and the other one (newer version) has an Align BL80A ESC (which appearantly is a Hobbywing ESC - can be programmed with Hobbywing programmer). The BL80X gets very hot (so does the motor). The BL80A doesn't get hot at all (nor the motor). I played around with some BL80X parameters (e.g., timing) but no difference. It continues to run very hot (and so does the motor). Does your ESC/Motor get hot? Mechanically both my helis are identical and run very smooth. Hence, I believe it is caused by the ESC. Any thoughts? Thanks a lot in advance.
