    1st of all thanks for the video, I'm new homeowner with an inground pool. Have a such question: when pump is working visually I can see significant large debris, but when I turn-off the pump in order to open it, all these stuff going back to the pool hose. What I'm doing wrong?

    • @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616
      @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616  Před 3 lety +2

      Most of the time, if you open air release valves before servicing the pump, some debris will flow back into the lines. If that occurs very often with your pool, you can keep the air releases closed and just go straight to opening the pump basket after you turn off the pump. After opening the pump basket, you can remove the basket quickly and the debris shouldn’t flow back. Just remember to turn off the pump before servicing it and always refer to your pool manual. On another note, If you are losing water from the pump when the pump is off and you see air bubbles begin to appear after a while, you may have a damaged seal or some other leak that you want to get checked out by a technician. A little bit of debris loss is normal, but if you have a lot flowing back, something may be going on with your system.

  • @jonathanbyrd12

    I have a questions for pump basket for the main pool. Are room is right below the swimming pool. I turn off the pump. I do not have to close the pump lines, the pipe lines that go to the motor or the return valve to the pool? Cuz won't all the pressure from the pool being above me. Still try to push out of the open pump lid?
    Also, I've heard horror stories that if you do close the main line and skimmer line to the pump that that is extremely dangerous or also closing the return line from the pump to the pool is dangerous. I wrote my nose that I can't find that I'm supposed to close both of those, then open the pump filter and clean it out. If that's correct. Which piping am I supposed to close first or doesn't matter?

    Why did water start pouring out of mine as soon as I opened the basket? The pump was NOT running and the system was in SERVICE mode.

    • @jonathanbyrd12
      @jonathanbyrd12 Před 2 lety +1

      That's water pressure. If your pool above your pump gravity will still push water through. Look at my question. I asked them I'm asking them if I should have blocked the water flow to the pump. Hopefully he'll answer

    • @bkinouye
      @bkinouye Před 2 lety

      @@jonathanbyrd12 Yes, my pool water surface is above the level of my pump. I'm thinking perhaps the pool pump should be running so as to relieve the water pressure. On my setup, the inlet valve cannot be used to close all water from the pool. I can only close either the skimmer inlet or the drain inlets at the bottom of the pool. Another option is I may try closing the drain inlets at the pool bottom since that is probably exerting the greatest pressure. So far, I haven't had to clean out the pump basket yet.

    Will the pump go back to it's scheduled setting after you manually shut it off to back wash or clean the basket?

    • @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616
      @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes, as long as you press the start button and put water in the pump after cleaning the basket, it will resume the scheduled setting.
      Depending on the time and your schedule, It may not immediately begin to pull water, but when your schedule is supposed to start, it will resume.
      After starting the pump and adding water, you can alternatively press one of the 1, 2, or 3 buttons on the pump and after the duration of that setting (4-5 hours typically), it will return to normal scheduled operation.

  • @marilonnen5242

    The manual makes a big deal out of priming the pump. You don't prime. What is correct? Also, why cut power to the pump when you already stopped the pump?

    • @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616
      @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616  Před 4 lety +2

      Thanks for your comment! Basically, whenever your pump turns on for the day, whether that is at the beginning of the day/schedule or after servicing, the pump will always prime automatically. I assume you meant that I didn’t add water? In this case, there was already water in the pump as I didn’t drain any out, and there was no need to add any more water, as it would just flow back down the line. If you can’t see much water in your pump after servicing or something else, you need to add water. For your second question. I cut power to both the manual switch and the pump itself just as an example for people who don’t have the other 🙂. If you have the turn off button on your pump, that should suffice for regular service. Just make sure your pool pump’s brand doesn’t turn the pump back on before you’re ready to do so. In pentair pumps, the pump won’t turn on automatically until you press the on button. Only then will it resume normal schedules. I hope this answers your questions! Let me know if you need more help!

    • @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616
      @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616  Před 4 lety

      There might be a case that there is or is not enough water in the system to create the suction necessary to get water moving into and through the pump. Important: It's imperative that you turn the pump off before you add more water.
      For more information, I HIGHLY recommend visiting this link before trying it yourself: www.swimuniversity.com/prime-pool-pump/
      specifically, steps 3 and 4.

    There is so much pressure I don;t know how to relieve the pressure from the pull up (?) black valve? The lid is locked shut real tight.

    • @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616
      @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616  Před 3 lety +1

      I’m assuming you’re talking about your pump. Look for a twist plug on the bottom of your pump. In this case, unscrewing it may release the pressure. You can also try a rubber mallet and --lightly- tap the direction of the opening of the pump lid to try to open it, but be careful. You should have an air release valve on your system for relieving pressure. I suggest for the long term, you get a licensed professional to take a look at your pool system and identify the release valve for you. Hope this helps!

    Instructing pool owners to leave that much debris (or any amount of debris) in the filter basket when the goal is to clean it, is some very bad advice. If you already have the cover off and the filter basket removed, simply clean it out thoroughly and completely. If I hired a pool service company to do this job and they left debris in the basket, it would be the last time they worked on my pool! Also, as an FYI.....adding water to the pump before putting the lid back on is considered "priming" the pump!

    • @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616
      @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616  Před 3 lety

      Yes, I completely agree with you. Although the small debris left in the pump wouldn't restrict flow that much, it would've been obviously better to clean it out entirely. Also, putting water in the pump, as you said, is only one step to priming. Priming also includes the act of purging the plumbing system of air to create a vacuum effect to pull the water from the skimmer and drains, filter it, and return it through the return line(s). I didn't add water in the video because I had enough of it in the pump. I will definitely take your suggestions and probably refilm/reupload this video with more detail and instruction when I open up the pool this spring :) Thanks for commenting!

      Leaving some debris is actually good. It wasn't dirty and those little particles will help to trap hair, oil etc that may otherwise slide right through.

  • @slavatko
    @slavatko Před 4 lety

    No way, if you remove a pump cover, the water will pour out of it.

    • @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616
      @diyhomeprojectstipsandrevi5616  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes and no. Make sure to turn the pump off before opening it. Also, your pump needs to be above the water level in the pool. If it is below the pool water level, you need to turn off the flow to the pump with some sort of valve in your system, Then you can open the pump lid. A tiny bit of water may flow out, but it’s not a big deal. Just make sure to pour more water in the basket before starting the pump if the level looks low.
